Voted magicka templar because everyone's voting magsorc. A magplar with shields and selfheals is also pretty strong, however a big disadvantage is taking away the stun from blazing spear in case of solo play.

The problem with mag sorcerer is simple:

If you go full DPS build technically you should be sort of a glass cannon (Ultra high dmg but not that good defence). But with sorcerer it is a different story. If you go full dps and you have only like 10K health... you can still use "Conjured Ward" (stack-able shield) So it adds like 20 - 25K DMG shield to your health bar. This shield is not affected by penetration and crits.
No other class in game can do that....

In PvP - Let me put it this way: In order to kill a sorcerer you need to deal at lest 25K "true" dmg (with no crits and penetration) fast enough to even "reach" the health bar. You have to do it fast enough so your enemy will not have a chance to "stack" more shield.
So you focus on destroying that shield while sorcerer throws "Haunting Curse" at you (un-dodge-able, un-block-able instant that explodes twice on you and even pulls you out of stealth 2x (even thou there is nothing like that in skill description).

And in the end when you finally managed to get rid of that shield and start doing dmg to health bar what does the sorcerer do ? Either stuns you with Streak & kills you or just escapes faster than sprinting mount....

In PvE - in addition to a DPS class being way more tanky than let's say a NB going full tank build you also have pets that take aggro form enemies making sorc a class that can solo even some group vet dungeons....

This is so not true. Why do people always keep saying this?
Yes, sorc do have Hardened...and every other class has Annulment. Annulm is something like 18k health for my sorc whereas Hardened is 24. Plot twist? Annulment is actually better because like everything in the game is magicka damage and with Harness Magicka morph it basically becomes free to spam, and 18k extra "health" is more than enough(that for when you need a shield at all). It's been how many months since Annulment's been changed to absorb both physical and magical damage? Time to realize that all magicka classes have their own "hardened ward" now and learn to use it already.

The reason why sorc are so op in pve right now is mostly just that Zeni overbuffed pets in an attempt to make them viable, which made pet(and even non pet, no excuse to not run familiar now no matter your build basically) sorcs' damage skyrocket. It is something they appear aware of and trying to fix. I would still recommend magsorc for soloing though because of pets which are a unique mechanic of their own and can indeed take the heat off you or even help you bypass some group-only mechanics(this will stay true even when Zeni inevitably nerfs their damage). Streak is also pretty unique in the mobility it provides. But Streak use in PvE is extremely niche, it's really not something you'll be slotting unless you're soloing/undermanning a dungeon or maybe for some very specific fights like Warden or Planar(with a pug group that doesn't know about closing pinion so streaking away from the boss in blue stage becomes a must).

In PvP, it's not so simple. I don't feel I PvP enough to understand the whole picture of class balance lately so I'll refrain from commenting much but just say magsorc are very possible to kill - you do it by cc-ing them since they all/most run very low stamina and at least 5 pc light armor making them super squish under their shields. Also, shocking but the reason shields are "immune to penetration" is because shields have no armor to penetrate. You're doing damage against an "enemy" with 0 physical/spell resistance(but 100% crit resistance to compensate for that, yes). Also 25k is quite a shieldstack. Not saying impossible but most sorcs will run less. I think I get something like 18k in my PvP setup.

Hopefully with the sustain changes none of the above. You should be able to solo high end content. That type of stuff should require a group.

Unless it can one shot 18 k health and a shield that pops back up like the Eveready bunny, you ain't dying anytime soon, maintain rotation of two buffs, two aoe and hold down heavy attack with a lightning staff

You will see that maybe the mag sorc is the king " for soloing pve content " but the sorc is a part of the worst class for tank or heal ever .

Templars apparently need a nerf if they're approaching any where near a sorcerer's numbers. Dragonknights have been in the rumor mill also of almost as good. Do it, ZOS! Hit em with that bat! Hard! There can be only one!

Can pretty much forget about worrying about healing your self in most cases. Except for when you are solo'ing some Vet Group Dungeons.(The ones that don't have mechanics that don't require at least two players or more.
