Obviously I am not the first to post this information, however I have had a couple of hours to farm for this item, and have also spoken with several people who have been doing the same, including Life Sentencer who was kind enough to chat with me for a little while and shared some in depth details for how to farm the until now, elusive Design: Khajiit Skooma Bubbler!

A big thank you to DuchessofArkham and LaFemminaVolpe for taking the time to grind Thieves Guild to help put together this guide!

So without further ado, here we go!

Prerequisites

Recommended Skills
  • Dark Brotherhood - Blade of Woe: Call the weapon of the Dark Brotherhood to your hand and deliver a killing blow to an unsuspecting target. (This is the most important skill for your NPC Farming purposes, as the last thing that you want is to stack up Murder bounties over several hours.)
  • Legerdemain - Light Fingers: Increases your chances of successfully pickpocketing. (Servant are not difficult to pickpocket, however there is no point in wasting time failing.)
  • Legerdemain - Kickback: Reduces bounties you willingly pay to guards and Fences. (This will come in handy when you are done with your farming run, as you will accrue a rather hefty bounty.)
  • Thieves Guild - Swiftly Forgotten: Bounty/Heat Decreased over x period of time. (You might as well reduce the amount of gold that you will end up paying bounties, by having this time reduction slowly chipping away at your bounty, as you work your farming route)

Recommend Gear
  • Night Terror: (3 items) Reduces the radius you can be detected while Sneaking by 2 meters. Reduces the cost of Sneak cost by 26%.
  • Night Mother's Embrace: (5 items) Reduce the range you can be detected while hidden by 2 meters. Reduces crouch cost by 25%.

Getting Started
  • Head to Hew's Bane, accept the quest for Forever Hold Your Peace, and progress to the point where you have entered Hubalajad's Palace.
  • Speak to the indicated NPC to gain information about Magnifica Falorah's whereabouts.
  • Pickpocket a key from one of the servers that you will find walking around with a serving tray balanced on their head.
  • Once you have the key, you can enter the estate via the kitchen door, which can be found on the right-hand side of the build.
  • Once you enter, you pass through the kitchen (these NPCs cannot be looted), however every NPC that you encounter from this point on is a Servant. Each one carries three items, so pick, pick, and then stabby-stabby.

Farming Route
  • The first two NPCs that you encounter should be right next to each other. (1 standing/1 sitting) Skip these two, as you cannot pickpocket the sitting NPC, and pickpocketing the standing NPC will generally result in the sitting NPC attacking you. These two are not worth the effort, nor the bounty. Simply head upstairs to start your farming route.
  • You will encounter (3) Servants upstairs. There is (1) female on a walkway off to one side, (1) male in the middle, and (1) male on the side opposite the female. Once you have dealt with these (3), you can head downstairs.
  • You wil encounter (3) Servants in this area. (1) male at the bottom of the stairs crouched over a chest. (1) female down the hall heading directly away from the bottom of the stairs, and (1) female in a hallway, off to the right of the first female in this area. Finish these (3) and head down the hallway, under the stairs from where you just came down.
  • Most Servants are isolated, with the exception of the (5) Servants found in the main room. You are going to want to deal with the (2) rooms on the opposite side of the foyer first. Then you should pickpocket both of the Servants who are standing on either side of the doorway leading into the main room. Once you have done this, back up into one of the rooms across the Foyer and attack one of the Servants so that he comes to you. You will incur a bounty, however luring him away from the other Servant will prevent you from accruing the bounty for being seen committing murder.
  • Now you are free to Blade of Woe the Servant on the other side of the door.
  • Proceed into the main room and you will find (3) more Servants. Take a moment to observe their movements. These patterns will not change. Pick, pick, stabby-stabby them one at a time.
  • After you have finished the (3) NPCs in the main room, head out of that room and across to the room on the left, which has a staircase that will take you back upstairs to begin the route over again.
  • Rinse and repeat.

Tips & Tricks
  • Always remain in crouch, as this will minimize the amount of times that you are seen, and will minimize your bounties in the long run.
  • Do NOT under any circumstances Log Out or reload whilst inside the quest.

A.) This WILL place you outside of the main gate, which just so happens to be right next to a guard. You know how this ends.

B.) This WILL result in one of two very disappointing scenarios. When you enter the estate grounds, you will have to redo the steps to gain entry to the estate, however the Servers will often be (empty) which means that you cannot steal a key to enter via the kitchen. IF the Servers, by the grace of RNGeezus, happen to have a key that you can steal, then the Servants will most likely be (empty), which means that you will have ZERO chance of looting the Design for this highly coveted Skooma Bubbler.
  • This area is ridiculously buggy, and odds are that you will find yourself stuck at some point or another. I have personally gotten stuck in a pair of vases, and inside of a wall. Do NOT attempt to port to a wayshrine as this will most likely result in one of the disappointing scenarios detailed in B.) above. Instead, use the "I'm Stuck" option in the Help Menu, which will place you near the front gate INSIDE the palace grounds! Be prepared to avoid guards, and then simply re-enter through the Kitchen.
  • The drop rate for this item is extremely low, so brace yourself going in. Don't plan on farming for 20-30 minutes. Plan on farming for 2-3 hours minimum. Remember, once you leave, there WILL be a cool down period before you can re-enter and resume your murderous pickpocketing spree.

And that's the long and short of it folks. Hopefully this helps!

I'm well aware of the fact that there is a "guide" for this. I'm also aware of the fact that it is not by any stretch of the imagination, a complete guide. There are plenty of people who are finding out the hard way, that you can't come and go from the instance as there are cooldown periods, etc. I'm simply providing what I feel is a more complete guide, to help people farm these items as easily as possible. If you have a problem with that, then by all means, don't click the like button, or any other button for that matter, and be on your way.

When i encounter "servants empty" bug that prevents me from obtaining kitchen key even dropping quest didnt help me. I had to wait 12 hours or so (went to sleep) for instance to reset.

Tho I noticed interesting thing, when this glitch happen, the two patroling servants are empty (no kitchen key) but if you stay closely to the kitchen door you can see a third servant spawning out of it, doing small circle and immediately disappearing.

As if there was a little separate instance around the kitchen door and each new servant that spawns is pouring into that tiny invisible realm while the old empty servants are stuck with you.e

Neverthless, if you position correctly and have fast fingers (literally lol) you can pickpocket a key from that 3rd servant before he disappears.

This is interesting, and good to know. I'll have to force the situation and see if I can replicate on my end!

Honestly, it's not difficult so much as tedious to farm the designs. I'm finding that there are plenty of people willing to pay good money, because they either don't have the Thieves Guild DLC, don't have a character that is in the right place for the quest where it drops, or because they simply can't be bothered to farm it themselves. I have literally told several people today how to farm it, and they have still been more than happy to purchase the design from me.

They shouldn't lock droppable recipes behind content the majority of the older players already have done on almost or if not every character already. They need to change that droprate location

It's probably available elsewhere in the game...it just so happens that folks have found this particular location to drop the item. I would be willing to bet that there are other non-DLC locations that you find this item.

I've searched high and low and have yet to find Servants anywhere other than in that particular quest. Maybe I'm missing them, however I get the impression that this was intended.

Those particular Servants drop it because it is quest related. If one listens in on Cosh's conversation in a previous quest he mentions smuggling Skooma. Which is suspicious as he doesn't leave the palace and honestly wouldn't do the work himself, which leads me to believe they are actually smugglers under the guise of servants. I mean just look at their loot pool, Snuff Boxes, Skooma Refinement Tools, and Smuggler Dolls xD
