Maintenance needs to be done. If it wasn't done and they left whatever is wrong on the live version, this thread would be about how buggy and horrible things were.

I guess what they're trying to say is that it's somewhat unfair for us in Europe that the EU maintenance is set during the day, and not during the night like NA's is.
In effect, it's like shutting down the motorways for all except emergency services at 4PM when people finish work in the cities, instead of waiting until the dead of night when thousands of people won't be trying to get home at once.1 -

you do understand that the servers are on different continents so it's not the same people doing na and eu?
although it would explain the delay what with the time it takes them to fly across to the eu server

LOL the rage is real. Look, I think it's crazy that the maintenance is going on this long. I think it could have been handled better. I suspect the fact that it IS taking this long means something that could have been addressed sooner was not. I don't know though. No one does. People are just ignorantly assuming that ZOS is just screwing around. Why the hell would they do that? They've poured millions of dollars into this product. They wouldnt keep it down unless they absolutely had to.

considering some servers are online before others and that in general all platforms\zones are separated.
Why not have each Megarserver maintenance at a different time - like in middle of the night not in middle of the day.
People will tell you it's because of the client but I call BS on that.
WoW's Oceanic servers get different maintenance times and they use the NA client. Patch days are a different can of worms iirc, but not every maintenance is a patch or bug fix. Most of them are just server restarts.
ZOS did in fact split maintenance times for US/EU servers in the beginning. In fact, they even responded to customer criticism of the EU server down time post-initial release and moved it.
But I think when it was realised the game did not sell anywhere near forecast release figures (conjecture, but going on the negative feedback and reviews surrounding the release) combining the outages was a cost-cutting measure as it did not require US-based staff to be working in EU hours. Also, one has to consider the EU straddles many different time zones, so there'll always be some people unhappy with an EU mega-server outage window.
Since when is inconveniencing and frustrating entire EU playerbase of a game once a week profitable? Didnt they think that some people may unsubscribe or stop playing entirely once sufficiently annoyed by this and other issues?
I don't disagree, but many long-term bad financial decisions are made for short-term gain.
Also, as the game is B2P, ZOS don't really care if we stop playing, they already have our money. in fact, in terms of server load and required ongoing investment, they'd love us to simply buy the game and stop playing immediately.0 -
