I thought I was going crazy when I was converting the item to imperial and it wasn't checking off. I did it a few different ways just to find out - you can't complete the master writ if its bound. Thanks ZoS !! for not thinking completely through with Homestead patch and folks that have the Imperial edition... Or did they?
Don't converting making the item bound?
Makes some sense you can not use bound items for the writ.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

first thing i did...motif book costs 300-370k atm (Elden Root traders)

they charge us for digital upgrade for what?writs says Imperial style and thats what i did, what matter if its not crafted but converted?its the style that counts FFS

I'd argue that since it's a MASTER writ, CRAFTING it rather than just converting it is what counts. A MASTER CRAFTER should be able to CRAFT in a particular style, not just be able to convert it.

I know a lot of people probably didn't bother to learn it since they figure they can just convert something to Imperial, but if you convert something, it's bound to you so that you can't give it to another player. They set it up that way so that you'd either have to learn the motif or create an Imperial crafter if you wanted to actually craft gear for others.

Also, if you accidentally equip an item you crafted for a MW, you cannot then turn it in. I made that mistake when switching to my thieving gear and accidentally selecting a helm I needed to turn in. As soon as I clicked on it, I thought, oh no...now it's bound and I can't turn it in. Fortunately, it was only epic and didn't use any rare style stones or nirn. I was able to get half the base mats back, plus the style stone and one elegant lining. Thankfully, clothing tempers drop like candy, so I have more of these than I'll ever use.

The motif is cheap, relative to the price of other endgame items. On PC/NA, the golden Imperial book sells for about 70K--less than what a Silken Ring chests chapter would sell for. It costs less than the price of the final bank upgrade. Also, conversion binds the gear, and only unbound gear qualifies for the writ. You can disqualify an item by accidentally wearing it.

If you have the Imperial edition and if (like me) your main woodworking, blacksmith, clothier crafter isnt an Imperial, fair warning. If you ever get Imperial style as a requirement, the feature ''convert to Imperial style'' isnt working.

    What are your options then?

    1. buy the damn motif you already paid for so your main crafter will be able to complete master writs
    2. if you have an Imperial character but isnt a master crafter... level it up and farm/buy ALL the motifs AGAIN
    3. create an Imperial character - level it up farm/buy ALL the motifs AGAIN

I feel cheated... to say the least.

I don't see what the issue is. The writ is asking you to craft something in imperial style, not convert something to imperial style.

Go get the motif book like everyone else.

Seemed obvious to me at launch that my main crafter should be an Imperial.

I don't see why converting should count anyway. You are supposed to craft it in Imperial style. Not buy it or convert it.

Not sure I see what's wrong here. Or is it me being silly lol

Not exactly true. Only if you choose Imperial as the race for your character. Any other race you need to find the motif to craft in Imperial style. Otherwise, you have to convert which does not work for Master Writs.

awww I hear you. See, my main is Altmer Templar. But, originally I made it Imperial, hence how I know imperial stylenow I guess. I haven't actually checked my other characters tho tbh as I don't craft on them.

Many tanks play Imperial. If you don't want to play Imperial, you shouldn't buy Imperial edition.

Bound gear has a lot of restrictions in game. Converted gear is bound. That should make you think twice before trying to use that approach for a writ.

The comment "what matter if its not crafted but converted?its the style that counts" is not well thought out. We can't use store bought gear for regular writs, even though it is the correct gear. We can't even use drop gear or gear crafted by other characters (except for consumables that aren't marked by crafter). Writs have restrictions beyond just being the correct item. Writs are meant for crafters, not converters.

Except that you didn't deliver the exact item. You fail to see that you are wrong. You can't convert the item and have it count.

Yeah, and the technicality was that you didn't craft it.

But, did you craft it? No. You crafted something with a different style and then converted it. So you did not do as the writ requested.

But, it obviously causes confusion so I do support the quest requirements adding verbiage that item cannot be bound. That would cover conversion and items equipped before attempting to turn it in.
