It actually IS intentionally stronger than other classes currently as a marketing strategy. It will be nerfed within a month or two of release though. But in my opinion, it still is not P2W.

No one is even quantifying what OP is for this? What context?

    VMA MAG?
    VMA STAM?
    Dung Tank?
    Dung Heal?
    Dung Stam DPS?
    Dung Mag DPS?
    Trial Heal?
    Trial Tank?
    Trial Mag DPS?
    Trial Stam DPS?
    BG/Arena PVP MAG?
    BG/Arena PVP STAM?
    Cyro PVP Group-Zerg MAG?
    Cyro PVP Group-Zerg STAM?
Cyro PVP solo Small Group MAG?
Cyro PVP solo Small Group STAM?

Let's see those numbers in all of the above...

Overpowered would be the overall survivability + potential damage that the class can do with it's skills in conjunction to the already available classes. Not exactly which instance or area it would perform the best. What you listed was a bit dragged out and contains too vague of a solid answer for each subject. In my personal opinion atleast, it is overpowered due to some skills restoring resources without a cost infinitely.. high dmg output while at the same time having these unlimited resources, as well as having the ability to play minor or major support WITH pets available. As I said before, I believe it's a marketing strategy for people to buy into Morrowind solely for the class.. which I think will be tweaked within the following month or two after release.

I'm not suggesting it's unbeatable. I'm just saying it has the potential to outperform other classes beyond the threshold that is viably acceptable..

For example: a NB can heal, correct? But it doesn't have to team support that Templars might have.. which means in the end turnout, templar healers are the best of their suit. HOWEVER Wardens have amazing heals, along with great team support - which ultimately puts them at a competitive level with Templars.. the primary class for healing abilities. It isn't just that though, it competes with dmg classes as well as tankier classes moreso than other classes already available can do which essentially makes it overpowered.

Feel free to disagree, like I said.. it's my opinion :)

ESO is not a free to play title, which I give the strongest association to pay to win elements. Typically something that is so much stronger and easier to acquire that it creates a power vacuum of viable options that neither player skill or time invested can overcome in an attempt to incentivize real money transactions.

I just don't see that with a new class added in an expansion, especially one which doesn't look to be stronger than any other available option. I see it as additional incentive to purchase the expansion, one that is used by many other MMO's as well.

Isnt it per definition p2w if you can play the warden class only by buying the "expansion" when the class will be stronger than others?

No. Pay to win is the definition of "P2W" The definition you're looking for is buy to play. Why? You have to buy the expansion like any game to unlock the new class. Which has been heavily tested and will more than likely be adjusted more and become slightly balanced. Pay to win is buying in-game items that make the player have a huge advantage over another... XP pots are a form actually. This could also be RNG increase, health detector, increased vision of some sort, or anything that gives a large advantage. A new class does not, it was heavily tested and just opens up the window for others.

Its $60 for 60+ hours, a new class, dungeons, zone. Luckily ESO has a B2P model input.

No one has even seen the patch notes or play tested a Warden outside of the dev team. This whole thread is rubbish.

I don't think most of you (complainers) have a clue what P2W actually is or means. Go pay NW (or any Perfect World game) where you can buy top tier gear and character enchants with currency bought from real cash and then get back to me about how P2W ESO is. Adding a new class via expansions has been a staple of like every MMORPG ever made--this isn't new.

I find the disconnect as jarring as all the hyperbole over crown crates.

    *nods*.

It's another example of a term being widely misused. Forums over the years have evolved into notorious places for users using incorrect terms or terms in the wrong way. The worst thing is new players will hear/read it and see its usage and think that is the correct way (not knowing any different), and so the falsehood is perpetuated.

There is not one single thing in ESO that is even remotely 'p2w'. I wish players would take the time to understand what the acronym actually means, but... wishful thinking.

This man speaks the truth. P2W is an overly used and abused term and especially in these forums.

No. It will probably be overpowered at the start and balanced (nerfed), and rebalanced again later.

I don't think people fully grasp what P2W is.....

Do you know how MMO's and expansions work?

I do not think he cares. OP either meant this thread as a troll, probably, or realized how misplaced his comment is based on the replies.

Regardless, he has not replied once since creating this thread.

Actually new classes in any MMO typically are at first to encourage players to want, buy and then play them.

Then a few months down the track they hit them with the 'balance' stick.

Yea but this is eso we are talking about, just look at templar it has basically been a powerful hybrid class for a long time now.

Of all the issues in the game right now, I'm really not concerned about the warden.
    • Yes warden will be OP.
    • Yes groups that run warden in trials will get better DPS because warden will armor buff everyone in the group freeing up DPS slots.
    • Yes you will have to buy morrowind to be competative
    • Yes Warden will be overpowered at launch just to sell more morrowind boxes
    • And, YES, a 28m undodgable, un-reflectable ranged stamina nuke is just ridiculous.

But will all the other changes to this game and the way this game is turning into a freemium micro-pay paradise, I really don't care.

There are bigger slaugherfish to fry.

Did anyone else notice that: in five (5) pages of comments, the OP has only posted... the OP?

He started this thread (which I can only imagine is a massive troll attempt), and then ran for the hills, never to be heard from again.

It's probably time to let this thread fade into obscurity... The initial question/premise has been defeated in magnitudes, as the new Warden class is definitely not "P2W", so it's probably time to let this one go.

I was originaly against paying for warden. Mainly just because at the first time I heard of it I expected it to be free and was poor at the time. I wanted it and still want to play it now! so badly too.

Now I bought Morrowind upgrade 3 times over. One for me, one for my bro, and I sent 40 bucks through paypal to a close in game friend, who couldn't afford it.

I can not wait for warden. Ice is the best element(besides earth but all we got of that is rock throw and ward shields). Was saddened when they added taunt to ice. But just switched from Ysgramor to Sun set. (side note- it is cool though that blocking uses mag with ice, now).

haha there is even a Fort Warden! A bunch of AD Wardens should group together and take it from blue, in the name of the queen! I just wish there was a Fort Templar, you know?

Please name one MMO expansion with a single new character in the history of MMO's where that new class was not OP. I've just never ever seen that happen and I've played most of the AAA MMO's. It's possible but where do you base your opinion from?

And Imperial is not a class. IQ FTW.

Please stop making these troll bait threads. It's a new class. It will be like other classes. Perhaps the only difference is that this will be the one class that's actually better off as a Stamina build.

Paying to win would mean that regardless of build or who's playing it, it would be an unkillable, one shotting demi-god of a class. Which it won't be.

    So. Just. ***. Stop.

Anytime I see threads claiming anything in eso is p2w only makes me think the people making the claims have never played a p2w game.

Expansions and dlc are not p2w.

Yes it's pay2win but since it's an expansion it's kinda like a loophole around it to make it less taboo. There'll be a chance it'll release extremely OP since it'll be basically a live beta test since not everything is predictable (or it may be intentional) until they nerf it after everyone buys it. It's an expansion though so you get other thingz that'll eventually make you feel forced to buy it so it's K..

They're adding it to the Morrowind purchase to make it seem like it's not p2w but you're spending money and getting a presumably stronger class so it's p2w.

Imo it won't be that great, I think the build will be more of a supportive role or healer if anything and Templar will still have stronger heals and will be easier to heal with

Another p2w warden thread. Sigh. No it's not p2w. It's considered new content with Morrowind expansion. You will have to level the warden class like any other new character. Level up all those skills run around collecting skyshards etc etc... There may be some balancing issues at first but they will be iron out at some point.
P2w is buying items from the company that will improve your character. Buying levels, buying BIS armor, better quality skills, etc...Like neverwinter.
There have been several AAA MMO that came out with new class/race that was in expansion only. Was not pay2win than and it's not p2w now.
If you want to be warden class just buy the expansion and support the game you are playing. Why wouldn't you want to buy Morrowind?
Is theives guild dlc considered p2w ?
