Things That Make You Cringe In-Game

The fact that you really "can't" play the way you want in game.

The idea that "Play how you want," meant all build approaches would be viable for all content. Play how you want meant, near as I can tell, that no matter what your approach to the game, there would be endgame options for you. If you wanted to collect endgame gear, you didn't need to go to PvP or run Dungeons, you could craft, or farm drop sets.

It's not quite as true now, because there are things you simply cannot obtain, that are useful for your build, without running a lot of content you might not enjoy, but the general idea is still true. You can play the game how you want, you just need to tailor your build according to what you're doing.

"Play how you want" has a simple meaning. You guys are making this far too complicated.

Play how you want = if XxxSephirothxxX wants to invest 60 trait points into the Magicka trait, then fill his ability bar with nothing but Stamina abilities...he can do what he wants.

Play how you want = if PawnYourMomHard wants to stop and read every book in a dungeon during a speed group run...he can do what he wants.

Play how you want = if ObamaSux69 wants to sit and talk in Zone Chat about politics for a whole month and never actually play the game...he can do what he wants.

Play how you want = if I want to add the aforementioned players to my Ignore List...if I want to kick them from my group...if I want suggest to them that they aren't really playing their class properly...I can do what I want.

People who play the game poorly will either learn the hard way that they are terrible, or never learn and continue to be carried for all content. It's the way of the world.

-The sound that Echatere pet makes (seriously, I just hate it!). For me, thats the most cringey sound effect in any game ever.
-Crystal frag spamming or light attack spamming
    -Exploits and cheats going rampant

Hey now... my son loves to spam frags... though he is only 6 years old...

I have another annoying thing that I haven't seen mentioned on this thread yet:

People in Zone Chat who ask for PC (Price Check) on an item, then when they get someone to answer, they proceed to ask for PC on like 3+ more items. I had this happen to me last night. Gave him an MM price check on three items. He then whispered me saying "I'm going to ask you for a lot more, cool?" I replied "Dude, just download MM and join a Trade guild already. I want to play the game." lol

-Echatere pets that won't shut the hell up.
-Bards that seem to know no other songs than "Red Diamond" and "Sway As We Kiss".
-Enemies following me through 1000 miles while attacking me, but become invincible and run away when I finally attack back.
-Extremely noisy enemies with ***-like groans, and insect screams (beetles and spiders).
-When a NPC stalks me while saying things like "Oh! Now who's gonna help me?!" or "Oh noes! Everything is lost!" (Save your sympathy *** sir/lady, just ask me directly).
-Receiving a notification and see it's just another "your guild mate finished x with y score" (don't even tell me who).

-Not being able to open or take anything in an outlaws refuge (I know it makes sense, though, they're thieves too).

Yeah, I cringe from the vast majority of that stuff myself. Especially the noisy enemies. Hnnnnng! My ears! :c

    20. Using the Blade of Woe on an npc standing in front of a cabinet, performing the execute, then literally being locked inside the cabinet. I've had to teleport out many times because I was stuck in a chest, a wardrobe, or hutch. I have/bugged this but i'm not aware of anything changing. When I regularly made the rounds of the houses in Orsinium this happened so often that I now stand around waiting for npcs to move away from furniture.

Omg me too! Soo annoying lol

Worse for me: I'm between NPC and cabinet. I get Blade of Woe prompt. It's about to start, but my character stops the animation. I then find myself with Stage 3 Vampirism after I wanted to keep Stage 4 because there must have been a lag, with me Feeding AND getting a Bounty.

I'm inside a building, so my 50+ stolen items worth 100+ gold is now gone because I either pay the bounty or die trying to flee.

"Aldmeri Dominion has the most fun zones"

They kinda do though. Think about it for a moment. The Dominion had: Beaches, jungles, the best cities (and most modern), a lit hub (Grahtwood has EVERYTHING in a giant circle and then some outside), etc. The only thing AD is lacking in their zones is snow. That's it.

I definitely can see why people find the AD zones aesthetically pleasing. Personally only Auridon and Reaper's March stand out to me. The rest is just trees. Lots of trees.

@Cadbury Now imagine if all those trees were peppered with snow. Like a snowy jungle of sorts. That would be gorgeous. Senche roaming about through the snow (like snow leopards), and icy paths. it'd be wonderful. Although, rainforests and rainy jungles aren't too bad though.

Also: RPers who chose an illegal character build to make themselves feel special. Like ones who roll up a Wood Elf in order to play a breed of Khajiit not seen in game since 1994, or pretend to be a member of House Telvanni in good standing, or any number of other racial options that just simply don't exist in game.
Wait, what? You realize that House Telvanni is just as joinable (for any race) as any other house in RP. To quote "The Affairs of Wizards":

"For example, since the Telvanni vigorously defend the right to own slaves, and since they keep many Argonian and Khajiit as slaves, many Argonians and Khajiit assume they would not be accepted for service with House Telvanni.
Not true. Telvanni accept all races as candidates for membership.
And, since the Telvanni are ruled by wizard-lord nobles, many assume they accept only candidates of the highest intelligence and willpower.
Not true. Telvanni accept candidates of modest intelligence and willpower."

If a book in Morrowind specifically mentions that an Argonian or a Khajiit could easily join House Telvanni, how is it "illegal" for a Dunmer to?

@Osteos Do you mind expanding upon your opinion, as to why AD zones are so awful?

Daggerfall zones are filled with abandoned structures, and structures that are fall apart all around. As well as a ton of bland emptiness, except for the deserts they have. Those break-up the blandness a little bit.

Ebonheart zones are a joke, save for their snowy regions. Granted Mournhold looks pretty cool from an architectural point-of-view when examining the buildings and structures there. But honestly EP is just strange. Fiery locations with netches and fire-spraying beetles? No thanks. Lol. And kwama and scrub are gross. AD has all types of big cats, imps, and giant scorpions. Plus killer mermaids and Dromathra. The edgelord Khajiits. :D

You actually can't. Since Telvanni are not a member of The Pact, nor Covenant or Dominion for that matter. And, since you can't roll up a character without a PvP affiliation... To be fair, that specific example only started to bug me after your multiple, "I wanna buy slaves," threads, where you defended your right to buy and own slaves by proudly declaring that the Telvanni were not, in fact, a member of The Ebonheart Pact.

On a related note, Meta being taken to mean, "most efficient tactic available," bugs me. It's actually a shortened from, "metagaming," which is behavior in an RPG where a player uses out of game knowledge to optimize their efficacy. The "most efficient tactic available," version is a backronym. Not a huge thing, but, you know, it irks me.

You know, I see the word even being used outside the realm of gaming. I've seen a movie or TV show called "meta" for breaking the forth wall or referencing a meme. A celebrity making an Internet meme is considered "being meta".

    Pretty funny imo.

As a linguistic prefix it means, "outside of," or something roughly to that effect. So terms like Metaphysics refer to a system for describing the universe in a philosophical sense. A metanarrative (which is the term you're seeing in other media) is a story that is imperceptible to the participating characters (usually because it requires external knowledge that applies to how the setting is constructed, or the genre), and is explicitly there for the audience. In that case, you're actually looking at a variety of postmodernist lit (or film, or TV, or whatever).

The fact that you really "can't" play the way you want in game. You are, in fact, forced to play certain gear and abilities in order to not get bullied, cursed at, /whisper attacked, kicked, or simply not invited to a group. Zenimax has not done enough to balance the math across all spectrums. Too hard? Too bad. Making a "damage cap" to aspire towards is a far better system which support the free-play style imho. Thus, not every player is running around doing the exact same freaking thing, with the exact same abilities and gear.

I've played how I want for a year and a half, never had any hate whispers or bullying behaviour, been kicked for being afk (fair enough too). Play how you want but play intelligently. If you have a crappy build thats up to you, noone else has to play with you though because they too are playing how the want, and that may mean not playing with inefficient weirdoes

Yes, House Telvanni is not a part of the Pact, but that doesn't mean your individual character can't fight for the "greater good". Of course I'm no PvPer, and my character simply doesn't care, but individuals can fight for the Pact while the House as a whole isn't a part of it. Of course, if they cared about this petty power struggle, they likely wouldn't have joined House Telvanni to begin with, but the House isn't stopping you from doing what you want. We have more important issues to combat, like my steward's dreadful canis root tea.
