Is the glory days of ESO gone?

BossXV

After much reading I have seen a lot of concern the glory that ESO could have had is gone. That ZOS has ESO in the rear view mirror and will only release quarterly DLC to boost revenue.

If the games is not, or will not make the money they want and or need, they will not make the meaty, hardcore fan pleasing content we want, didn't Mat say they would make it as long as people, the money keeps coming or something? As long as the game is profitable?

How successful is ESO? Does it have the success and funds to create a great future? Is a great future ahead? Or will ZOS put it on the back burner as a cash grab?

I find this kind of post really counterproductive, especially when the previous post in the forum is about the same topic:
      https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/310839/is-zos-dropping-the-ball-on-new-content#latest

my answer is to that is:

      - in 2 YEARS of TESO (i play since the beta) i never saw so much newplayers and players connected, even during night hours - no its not because of holidays - actually, it is since TESO made its apparition on STEAM and did the "One tamriel" thing which basically break down the barriers of faction (they should have done it since the start).

      - new things are coming out and I m sure that ZOS will come up with some new contents, as suggest some video on youtube obtained with datamining -see my reply to the link above)

      - hopefully previous dlc will come cheaper so more people play them. You see, I still have not entirely finished the game after 2 years, so, I m not complaining.

I think it has more potential. They completely revamped the game with 1T. Now with homestead coming, it's improving. U13 isn't just Housing, it will bring more changes as well. It's hard to release content when you are still improving the mechanics and game world, especially something as significant as 1T.

Personally I feel BoP needs to be removed entirely. A huge part of this game on Xbox NA is the economy. RNG should be fixed too. This game is becoming a grindfest for gear. And BoPing dungeon sets only skyrocketed prices on Zone sets and locked people into caregories. Category A: Grind dungeons all day hoping for that sharpened viper dagger or inpen burning spell weave. Category B: Grind dolmens and overland bosses all day to get spriggans.
The zone content is more profitable, too profitable. 700k for a spinners sword? Would it be that high next to a viper dagger or maelstrom axe? Probably not.

Completely eliminate BoP or integrate a smart RNG system. If you are wearing two pieces of an inpen set, it increases your chances of looting another inpen of that same set. Logic! Also as many have said, vMA is just wayyy too tedious to roll the dice on. I feel for you guys that have ran it hundreds of times and still no luck, that is absolute garbage on ZoS end.

I get some items should be hard to obtain, but making it impssoible for one person and cake for the next, seems really unbalanced.

It's also really boring knowing everyone is wearing the same stuff. Out of the dozens of sets and craftable sets and traits in this game the community goes for the best three or four sets, inpen or divinves? Pretty sad. But honestly, almost all the sets in the game are useless.

Key point is the concern that the glory others think that it could have had if it had been done another way... those imaginings never existed in reality - just in some folks fertile and unproductive imaginings.

      So they cant be gone.

Might as well ask if the glory days of my having won the lottery are gone - no i never did but i thought about what i would do with the money a lot - just like some people imagine what the game would be could be should be if they were in chargea dnd didn't have any real life company stuff going on.

is it what it was? nope. its better IMO.

See more players and more activity now since 1T than in a long time and thats not just the change in instancing but new players.

looking forward to what comes next even though frankly housing isn't that much of an appeal to me.

      this !

hell, i even think the glory of ESO just started, with the sales on steam, constant of new players and good review, and ZoS constantly pump new content (yes, housing and One Tamriel is considered content update) , and if we lucky, next year we might will see clockwork city or murkmire, hell yes its just starting

I play these kinds of games almost purely for raiding, and it seems to me that the raiding scene was much more active back in the days of the original AA and Hel Ra. When you came to the forums, many of the threads were about running the trials. To me, this time period was the height of activity. Then we had a content drought of about a year, and I think a lot of those raiders left. When you came to the forums, it was mostly about PVP, and still seems to be that way.

I am pretty happy with the way they did vMoL, and very much like that they have started to add more mechanics to the fights, but I am worried that it's too little, too late. I just don't think they put out enough raid content to retain the raid crowd. I am beginning to regret my decision to stay with ESO, and bypass WoW Legion. At this point, it would take a tremendous effort to catch up to the rest of my raid guild in WoW, so I am stuck here hoping they begin to focus more on raiding.

If this game turns into nothing more than tiny DLC's and crown shop fluff, I will be gone. For some, that may qualify as "glory days", but not to me.

I dunno, I'm pretty panicked that the OP doesn't know his verb tenses. (i.e. "ARE the glory days" vs. "Is the glory days").

Then again illiteracy always makes me worried.

Guess I'll just play the game and relax.

P.S. I was nice and didn't even touch the OP's second paragraph. Yikes.

When they had F2P weekend on Steam they were able to pull off 500k new users accordingly to SteamSpy so seems like theres still interest for this.

This is not rocket science really, theres no MMORPG coming, its this or WoW. Ive a feeling EA doesnt believe in SWTOR anymore and most talented people have left GW2 team, so theres no believe in GW2 either. Going to be interesting to see if Zen/Beth still has the balls to invest in this, sure this has been rough road so far.

I gotta admit ESO had changed a lot and I think for the better I've been playing since Beta and had a break after imperial city patch dropped came back to ESO with one tamriel live and I have never seen so many players and being able to get groups for events and things being a lot easier, I think ESO has taken a huge step in the right direction imo when I took a break from ESO I went and played Guild Wars 2 and imo it's the same in every mmo one week everything is awesome on the forums then the next week everything is "omg the games dead" or "why the devs do this they have ruined this game" etc etc then a few weeks later bam everything is great again... it's part and parcel of mmo's there's joy and there's panic on a monthly basis but I really do think ESO is safe like other people said in the ways of mmo's there's really not much out there plus ESO has pros like the rich questing system, good combat system, graphics etcetc. So Don't Panic!!

Kind of concerning when people think the best days of a game is behind them. I think this worrying is for no reason. ESO has only been out two years, going on third. Who knows what the future for ESO has in store. It can be argued that some mistakes have been made. The crown crates, not many seem to be a big fan of them. But its from mistakes you learn.

Im pretty convinced ESO has a bright future. So far it has just been a great game. Not saying its perfect, no game is. But in my opinion its kinda close. I love the Elder Scrolls universe, and ESO is by far the best Elder Scrolls game.

If releasing quarterly DLC is a bad thing when exactly were these "glory days" when they were releasing this meaty hardcore content that you have decided we all want?

It seems like regularly releasing DLC is exactly what you want. The alternative is that they delay releasing anything so they can bundle a year or so of DLC together as an expansion which everyone (even subscribers) has to buy separately. But I doubt many people would consider that an improvement.

I think ESO still has a lot of potential.

One Tamriel makes for a lot more polished experience.

If proc damage sets get properly fixed and Cyro/PVP gets a few tweaks and ZOS find some way to curb player attitudes towards one another when using group finder, I think a marketing campaign of sorts could bring people into the fold and keep them there.
