This *could* be an interesting topic... how video games *could* allow us to escape society standards for better or worse, and how they may end up reinforcing stereotypes.

But... introduced this way... so superficially and controversially... I don't even know what to say.

Besides... not *all* players make "pretty" characters, and, oddly enough, male players who choose to make female characters do NOT necessarily make them 90/30/90 (european equivalent of "blonde with hourglass figure" cliche). Note that thin vs. fat does not equal beautiful vs. ugly.

All I can say is : I wanted to make a bosmer male character. Because I like Bosmers and there are plenty of things in their culture in the lore that feeds my personal fantasy. I had to compromise with costumes and tricks because the game wouldn't let me "draw" this character like my imagination wanted him to be. I managed, still.

ESO or any other video game has a responsibility in widespreading cultural norms, BUT that doesn't mean it should cater to every single politically correct niche out there. And do overweight people really need that sort of "recognition" ? That's fo them to say.

This is not answer to your question, but I have noticed that usually people who make their game characters muscular, and most goodlooking are usually fat and ugly irl. Then those who make ugly and fat game characters are athletic irl. And btw my orc is as fat as possible, just saying.

@Meld777 where's your gallery of wonderment when we need you.

On an aside, first time I'd ever seen a non-buff NPC were the participants in Windhelm and it actually made me stop and appreciate that ZOS were actively or passively promoting a more diverse range of characters in a fantasy game where you can be a mythical race of immortal 7' tall elves shooting electricity out your sausage fingers.

Lets not forget what the term 'shaming' actually means. Shaming is trying to make someone feel ashamed, humiliated or embarrassed for something. I have NEVER seen anything in this game that would try to make someone (whether an NPC or player) feel ashamed of something.

In fact, ESO is one of the most open and non-judgemental games I have ever played. I've seen both gay and lesbian NPC couples give out quests asking for help to find their husband or wife (definitely no confusion there), and I've seen overweight and anorexic NPCs that were in no way teased or humiliated for how they look.

ESO is also very RP heavy compared to other games. It is more realistic. So if you are galloping around on a horse all day defeating foes, one would expect you to be athletic. Maybe ESO can implement a set of appearances that RPers could use, which would also forego being able to access certain quests or content, because a seriously obese and unhealthy character would be able to do nothing more than sit in a tavern drinking beer :D
FACT: Haters don't really hate you. In fact, they hate themselves, because you're a reflection of what they wish to be.

I wanted to create a fat high elf a while back. It just wasn't possible. The fattest Altmer is still not all that big. I named him Elf of Girdle Bane, but he's yet to bust out of any clothing.

My Character can't afford to be fat and morbid obese. He has daily dungeons that he needs to complete to get 2 keys in which hes looking forward into getting mostly training and prosperous... he also does veteran trials too... how can he successfully do all of that when hes fat?

    And in Skyrim.....

How can my Dragonborn successfully take down Alduin without being muscular built? He can't afford lard interfering his business.

This has not been my experience.

Most MMO players I know try to create a character that looks at least somewhat similar to what they look like in real life. For better or for worse.

Yeah might be I'm wrong. I just know few MMO players myself and 4/5 of them try to make ugly/stupid looking characters.

Edit: and also I don't know personally any bad looking MMO-player, so thats why I build my picture of those handsome ingame characters around of that guy from South park's WoW-episode.

Realistically, fat people had no place on the battlefield. Soldiers go through rigorous training and exercise to be buff, fit and have sharp reflexes for a reason - being fat does not belong in those categories.
However for roleplaying reasons I do wish they added slightly "fatter" options. I wanted to make a chubby imperial for loling around and even with the sliders all the way up he still looks rather fit, fit enough to be a soldier.
    Sometimes, I dream about...cheese...

Egowen - v16 Dunmer Whipping Expert (Riding crops eluded her)
(Yes, I had to grind all these to v16)

Sad isn't it, people getting upset about so meaningless stuff so much the past years.

Feels like the world is going crazy, people debating "fat shaming" of virtual characters or the whole Gender Stuff to mention a few.

While distracted, wars and terrorism happily increase in number and size

Wondering who we virtually "#PrayFor..." next, and what colors our profile pictures will be wearing next, cause, that will solve things and stuff, right :disappointed:

I know, but how come I cannot make a fat toon? You seen anyone that looks fat in this game? To me it seems like everyone is all fit.

You can make a fat toon; just move the macro body slider to "large", and turn all the sliders up all the way.

There should be a "No one cares" option. This is one of the most miniscule non-issues I have ever heard of. Game balance? Cyrodiil lag? Why fix that, we need to look fat! If you truly wanted your character to look fat, you would of bought the Dragon Warrior costume.
