I posted this a long time ago, but I'll repost it here. I can't craft for anyone anymore. I just mess with people...

    Random: Are you Vampire?

    Me: No

Random: Can you craft me a Vampire set?

Me: Wait, what? What is a Vampire set?

Random: I need the set that makes you into a vampire.

Me: That's not how it works.

Random: Can you make me a Vampire set or not?

    Me: Do you have mats?

Random: I have some Spider eggs.

Me: Great, I have some Flour. Maybe we can make some Vampire cookies. Seriously, what the hell are you talking about?

Random: Hold on, my mom is yelling at me.

Me: Not sure I blame her.

    Random: What?

Me: Nothing. Alright, you take it easy

Random: Wait, are you going to make the set?

    Me: What, for free?

Random: Yeah. Cmon, man. Don't be a ****. I don't have any gold.

    Me: Fine. Gimme a sec.

    (3 minutes later)

Me: Accept the trade. It's free.

Random: Okay. So how does this work?...Wait, this is light armor. I use heavy armor.

Me: Look, to be a Vampire you have to wear 7 pieces Soul Shriven light armor. That's what I gave you.

Random: So how does it work?

Me: You need to kill at least one guard to start the Vampire quest.

    Random: Okay, cool. Thx.

    Me: Have fun.

You are a hero for still crafting for people.

I gave up on that a year ago. I still craft for friends but that's it.

What annoys me the most is when people expect me to drop anything I'm doing to go craft their stuff. It might come as a surprise but crafters are people too, and their play time is not less important than the client's.

This would drive me nuts too. They'd even ask while I was in a trial...
Yep, so many people have no respect for crafter's time. Some things I've gotten:

"Hey man, I need clever alchemist and Hundings " Me: "can't, I'm in AA". "How long you gonna be, I need it tonight". Followed by repeated "done yet?" Whispers even after I said I wouldn't do it that night.

And my fave: "can you make me armor masters?"
Me: "not tonight. Don't plan on going to Cyro"
    "Cmon man, hook me up"
Me: " no can do. besides campaign pop locked"
"Just change ur home to Azura, no one will sweat you. Don't be a p*****"
Me: "yah not gonna do that. Find somebody else"
    "Dude why u being such a ******!"

The problem is, for a lot of crafters, it's the other way round.

Clueless guy in Zone: "WTB Legendary gear for 5k!"
Read, "wants to buy a set of gear with a rough value between 250k (probably closer to 300k) and 576k (probably closer to 650k) gold. But will graciously pay you five thousand gold for the privilege." (I'm only counting the cost of the gold upgrade mats for the non-parenthetical prices, if you're wondering.) Bonus points if they want it in either of the crown store exclusive motifs which instantly add 100k to the set's cost.

This, added to endless incompetence from people who can't give details on what they want, are the reason I stopped crafting before for other people.

This is why I don't craft unless they are very specific, even then it's with caution.

It is not a scam if both sides get to an agreement about a price. You have not violated the TOS in anyway, there is no rule about the prices for services players can provide. That is why I offered to sell bethnik twice spiked ale that I crafted myself for 600 000 gold per drink in zone chat. PPl loled on that but it is no scam. It is my right to sell stuff that I created for a price I see fit, and it is their right not to buy if they find it too expensive. On the other hand I sold maybe 12 recipes for that drink for 200 gold each so far. Again, as a seller, it is my right to set price as high or low as I like. And they did, hence so many sales.
Have I exploited something? Cheated someone?

And if someone would want NMG stuff for 50k, I would be an absolute madman to pass that deal. Golden rings will not buy themselves, lol.

Yes you are exploiting the ignorant. Cheated that's a different perspective, but what I can say is this kind of behavior is why crafters get a bad rep, but to each his own.

I've crafted for people outside my guild twice. Both times they were waiting inside where Twice Born is crafted and asked if I was level nine crafter. I said yeah and asked what I could do for them. Worked well both times.

The only other time I offered to craft for someone outside of a guild they wanted a rare style but didn't see why they should provide the mats for it. Was low level gear so I was going to just make it for free until they got picky about style.

Even in guilds you can run into some real ?????s. We had one guild member (social guild) that had a list of all the master crafters and was going to each one to get stuff crafted then selling it in a trade guild. We always craft to blue for free on common styles but with the understanding it is gear you will be using so he was getting a decent profit doing it. He left the guild before he could be kicked.

Crafting for business is dead...I had someone yesterday...."any crafters" "what do you need"..."a crafter obviously"....sigh..."but what do you want making"....."an armor set"..... (starting hitting himself in the head) "what set and style"......"tbs"...."ok now what style"....."dro m'artha "...."got whiskers?"...."...no how do I get them"....farm mol or buy them for 5k each..." or I'll just charge 20k for the whole set now"....."why are you charging me?????, I'll relog onto my crafter"

Then I grabbed my necktie and threw it into the AC duct fan with me still attached....even that didn't work.

Obviously, since you survived to make the post above. ;)

The problem is that crafters, theorycrafters and ingame counsellors are three different things.
Anyone can choose to be one, two or even three of these, but noone HAS to be, and people too often assume that a crafter is :

    - ready to help with time, gold or items
    - has nothing better to do with his time
    - is competent in theorycrafting
    - has the patience to explain crafting mechanics such as research processes, traits or bonus items

What makes it worse is that the more people will help newbies for free, the more newbies will expect things to be crafted to them for free, or explained to them for a long time. I'm not saying people who help newbies are in the wrong or shouldn't do it. It's nice that they do it. But it has side effects with some people.

Not everything needs to be explained. Figuring things out in this game is easy - especially crafting. It doesn't take a Mensa IQ to understand. Maybe it needs a bit of time, curiosity and observation.

The question that upsets me most is probably "what mats do I need and how many...?". C'm'on, go to any crafting station and do the math.
Close seconds are "what style looks best ?" and "what class is best ?"...

this is what happens when dropped sets surpass crafted, they have lost their value. people are now saying in zone chat:

"who can make me NMG 7 pieces? i got the mats!" - as if making someone a set would be an honour. it used to be when i started a piece would set u back 20K at least- and that was a bargain given the amount of time it takes to research- now that has been undermined.

    ---

Guildie I've never spoken to in text char: "I need immovable pots stat".

Me: "I'll send you some." I break off 20 top shelf immovable-health-health rec-magic-magic rec potions. Send them for free even though I could easily charge 5000g.

Guildie: "Can you craft me some more."

Me: "Send me the mats. Columbine, Bugloss, Wormwood."

    Guildie: "Ok. Sending."

    Me: "5 minutes"

Guildie: "Could you hurry up? I'm in a dungeon." (Because 5 minutes when I'm deep in Cyrodiil is way too long.)

Me: Gets to crafting station, opens mail. 12 bugloss, 12 wormwood, 6 columbine. WTF am I supposed to make with an uneven number of mats? I dig 6 columbine out of my bag (retail value 6000 gold) and make him 48 potions. "Sent."

    Guildie; "Ok."

At no point did he ever say thank you, show a modicum of patience, tip or even think about offering to cover for my columbine.

    ^^so much this^^

It's true that we are, usually, more helpful and emphatic than the competitive-end-gamer-stereotype (yes I'm generalizing here, I know there are exceptions). We're not very good at saying "no", giving conditions, be selfish.
Problem is, *many* people know this and consciously try to abuse it.

    Recent experience :
-Random : LG crafter to help two friends of mine, new to the game, with lvl4 armor
-Me : ok what do you need ?
-Him : 2x level 4 non-set armor, with training traits (gives all details)
-Me : ok (i craft the stuff, for free, with my own mats)
-Him : thank you, you are very kind. While you're at it, can you please make me 5xHunding and 5xNMG in CP160 ? (starts providing details)
-Me : My prices are 10K per travel so that would be 20K
-Him : What ? but you just crafted the newbie stuff for free
-Me : That's because it's for newbies who have no gold and because it doesn't involve travelling. CP160 stuff is a different story
-Him : You know I have plenty of ppl whispering me, ready to craft for me for free ?
-Me : OK fine, why don't you ask them ?
-Him : Because I want to deal with you since we're already talking
-Me : but I don't craft CP160 gear for free so just go ask them
-Him : But you know that your prices are rip offs, it's not the real value ?
-Me : it's MY price, if you don't like them, go ask someone else
    -Him : See you

(He left without even caring about the lvl4 stuff I had crafted for his so-called "newbie friends", which I ended up deconning).

I suspect strongly that this guy never had friends who needed lvl4 stuff. He just wanted to hook up one of us nice, helpful crafters, and trick him into crafting CP160 gear for him for free.

Lesson : be nice, but not stupid. It's OK to get paid, it's OK to set up prices.

Rule number one. Do not craft anything before they send you materials and gold.
Rule number two. Take no pity when crafting is involved. You spend a ton of time to be able to craft stuff, it must be respected in proper way or gtfo.
Rule number three. If you start to craft everything for guildmates without compensation, they will never respect you.
