Me: Gets to crafting station, opens mail. 12 bugloss, 12 wormwood, 6 columbine. WTF am I supposed to make with an uneven number of mats? I dig 6 columbine out of my bag (retail value 6000 gold) and make him 48 potions. "Sent."

    Guildie; "Ok."

At no point did he ever say thank you, show a modicum of patience, tip or even think about offering to cover for my columbine.

All doing this did was cost me at least 10k in materials and my time.

You should have CoD him the potions since he skimped on the ingredients.

Yeah. You're right. I just have this bad habit of being stupid.

I have a couple more stories to share.

One time, at least a year ago if not longer, someone from guild asked me to craft a set for her (I had what I could do listed in my guild notes). So we meet at the crafting station and I go "Mats?" and she instantly got upset. I can't remember all of what she said but ended it with "I'll find someone else lol" followed by me saying "Thanks for wasting my damn time" and explaining that I (VR14 at the time, when that was the cap) am not going to hang onto old VR3 mats that I didn't need anymore, so why would I have them?

Another time more recently, I was crafting some Tava's and someone was hanging out there, I guess waiting for someone who could craft him something. So I'm crafting my stuff and he whispers asking if I could craft him some Tava's Swords, so I said sure since I didn't think it'd take that long. I was wrong. He kept asking for them to be in sturdy even after I explained three damn times that that is an armor trait and you can't craft swords in sturdy. Finally he got it but it took another few minutes for him to figure out what traits he wanted instead, and at this point it seemed like he was reading off of a build, when he finally said "infused and decisive". Took another few minutes to even get a style out of him. He was thankful and everything in the end, but FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU WANT.

Maybe crafters should be given a new skill. All it does when activated is give another player a work order form asking for all the required information. ;)

OH! Now there's an idea. If ZOS did this, they could put a personal secretary assistant in the crown store that handles the paperwork and automatically rejects incomplete forms. It's a win for everybody! Well, except for the people filling out paperwork all day because they don't have any idea what they really want crafted. :p

Seriously. I got in the habit of telling people to send me an email with exactly what they wanted. Simple enough. Most people had no problem.

Then ... one time I got the most detailed email ever put together. It took up like 4 seperate XBox messages. Problem was, he took, "I can craft you whatever you want" way too literally. My error in that I should have said, "I can craft you any trait you want." This guy spent like 900 words explaining how he wanted specific pieces from different motifs that had been out at the time for about a week.

Even 6 months later I don't have some of the motifs he wanted. He also didn't understand that I couldn't conjure up style materials out of thin air.

I politely rejected his email back to him and started being a bit more specific. Haha.

I'm not -nor have I ever been- a professional crafter, but I've been known to pick up very specific requests in Zone if I have the ability or give out free sets of pre-CR level gear for free to new players. Any more than that and I'd go homicidal.

I've seen some of the assery that goes on with people trying to do stuff for someone who doesn't even know what they want and they're damn well saints for trying.

Crafting for business is dead...I had someone yesterday...."any crafters" "what do you need"..."a crafter obviously"....sigh..."but what do you want making"....."an armor set"..... (starting hitting himself in the head) "what set and style"......"tbs"...."ok now what style"....."dro m'artha "...."got whiskers?"...."...no how do I get them"....farm mol or buy them for 5k each..." or I'll just charge 20k for the whole set now"....."why are you charging me?????, I'll relog onto my crafter"

Then I grabbed my necktie and threw it into the AC duct fan with me still attached....even that didn't work.

This is why I took my crafter notes out of my guild notes. This was my latest...

My note said 8 traits in all, no nirnhoned... "can you craft clever alchemist?"... yes... How much would it cost me?... I'll do it for free if you provide the mats (also in my guild note).... How many mats is it for 2 swords? Golded out?... 220 ruby ore, 4 greens, 6 blues, 8 purples, 16 golds... what the *** dude? for realz? thats gonna cost me a ***... yep for realz dude, that's why I don't charge an even bigger ***... ok i'll shop around for mats and get back to you... 30 minutes later "How many nirns do I need?" .... silence on my end...

Yeah, I took mine off the list after someone (it wasn't in the guild, though) who was trying to buy level 10 gold gear, and expected it to be cheap, "since it's low level." I think it's now, "Is probably not a real doctor."

They just need a job board. Person A posts on the board what armor/weapons/style/trait/quality/etc they want and how much they are willing to pay. Gold/mats for the items are taken at the time of posting to the job board. Crafters ( Person B ) can take jobs from the board at which it starts a quest with the crafting requirements. Turn quest into the job board and you receive your payment, and seller receives their item(s) via mail. This could all be done in a point-and-click GUI which would make it both PC and console friendly. Then you wouldn't see so many ridiculous zone chat requests, and it would give crafters a possible revenue stream.

I don’t think non-crafters realise how expensive it is getting to be s 9 trait crafter Or they do can’t be arsed spending time and money themselves so find a fool with a good heart to leech off of.

I’ve certainly never yet met any one that appreciates the crafting you do for them.
Everything will be alright in the end, if its not alright its not the end.

Once I crafted like a thousand max-level food to some random guy who was asking for it in zone chat.

The guy bought it at 5x the market price!

He had been running exclusively on crown food .... for months!

He had been buying crowns just to buy food and potions!

My reason I stopped to craft for public/zone chat requests is all of the above^^^^ reasons but with a cherry on top...

The cherry = at Julianos crafting station crafting for myself, this guy with bow on back (first clue I ignored) keep asking everyone for only 2 pieces, a lightning staff and light chest from julianos. Nobody bothered with him.
After a while I thought well ok, its only 2 pieces. After the "ffs just tell me the crafting requirements in one short sentence" consultation that took almost 35min for 2 pieces, I was able to craft him exactly what he wanted.
By now I relatively fed up and just want to leave so I just gave him the 2 pieces without charging anything. He then proceeded and used zone chat to tell someone form way before I got in zone that he finally crafted the pieces the player wanted and ITS FOR SALE...

Yes he was soliciting my handy work... the cherry on top

I've stopped crafting for randoms unless they're low level players that are just wanting training sets. Those are straight forward. So, so sick of having the following convo

    Random: Any crafter(s) online?
    Crafter: Yup
    Random: I need armour Bro
Crafter: Yeah, I kinda suspected that was the case. Any particular set?
Random: So can you make armour, Bro?
Crafter: I wouldn't have said "Yup" to your original question had i not been up to the task. Fire away
    Random: I need gear, Bro
Crafter: Again, I gathered that. What gear do you need? And please give as much detail as possible e.g. Lvl, weight, trait etc.
    Random: I need Hundings, Bro
Crafter: So I take that is medium weight Hundings? Traits? Lvl?
    Random: Yeah, Hundings
Crafter: Traits and lvl of gear?
    Random: Divines
Crafter:Style and still ... lvl of gear?
    Random: Any, Bro
Crafter: I need to know what level, please. Also, you got mats?
Random: CP160. How many mats do i need and what kind of mats do i need, Bro?
    Crafter: *sigh* I'll go check

    10 mins later ...

    Crafter: You need X amount
Random: I've only got 40 leathers, Bro

    And so on.

It would be interesting to have players' writs.

You Customer, create one, through a friendly UI, which allows you to state what you want (CP, style, trait, ...). You have the option to add the mats or not. Then you add gold. You could add some extra in case the writ is completed and delivered within 10 or 30 minutes.

You Crafter can browse those writs and take whichever you can both do and like. You can assign one and only one writ to you at the same time. You have 30 minutes to complete it, else it will reappear. Assigning a writ to you has a small cost, which is refunded to you when you deliver, or lost forever if you don't.

I have done couple requested sets as crafted, never had I ran into these nightmare people luckily.

But this is also why I bothered to get 9 traits myself, wouldn't have to go through such processes and just do it myself in the end.
