Kicked or removed sounds like potayto or potahto.

If its potayto potahto for you, then it doesnt matter if its getting changed either I guess.

Changing it is a waste of time.

Zos priority on this is the 1,563,379 so it will eventually be changed in the year 2027.

Seriously, it's such a non issue and not worth the effort for Zos.

Im sure it takes less time then you spent commenting on my post

Which would be time better spent by Zos doing anything. It is just changing one word in a database and nothing more.

But such a non issue that it's not worth it. Besides, it's a care bear issue and that would do nothing for the game.

Geeze if you feel that guilty of "KICKING" someone from the guild then don't do it at all.

What's the difference between the word "Kicking" and "removing"?

I like the word "Kicking" just the way it is. Just because you feel guilty doesn't mean that the word has to be replaced.

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

    This thread has triggered me.

The word kick is completely unacceptable, as is removed. I believe that we should change this to "hugged out of guild by way of unicorn" and award them with a completely justifiable participation award in the most inclusive font available.

Of course this is just my opinion and everyone knows all opinions are always welcome in exactly equal measure from all sources.

I will now retire to my safe place and pet my bad feelings animal.

OMG I agree completely! These micro-aggressive terms make me uncomfortable. Everything should be a safe space filled with snuggly unicorns and happy, smiling rainbows! The word "removed" is way too exclusive, and it makes me feel sad ): If you have a differing opinion than mine, it clearly does not belong in this happy sunshine world. Everyone is a winner!!!!!!!!!!!

Disclaimer for those with no commond sense: This is clearly sarcasm. If you do not see that, something is seriously wrong with you.

    Bloody hell!

The tone of an online game is set by myriad small decisions, not just the big ones. There is no harm in changing the wording and no real work involved.

If you need to vent about manufactured cultural issues use a different forum.

I help running an end game guild, and sometimes we have to make the unpleasant decision to remove players from the guild. It doesn't need to be bad feelings or anything. When you right click on a player, you get the option to "remove" him from guild, but on the guild history, the word "kicked" are used. I feel this looks more negative then the situation is, and some players can get uncomfortable when they see this. Just a small detail of a thought I had :)

I say leave it as is.

It accurately describes what is going on. Someone broke a rule, caused a disruption, or did something else contrary to good sense. The word for removing someone in any of those situation is kicked.

Is it negative? That's a matter of opinion. I could say 'has been removed' is offensive to me, and I could make an argument that removing a part from the whole has a spiritual context. So does that mean we have to find something else? Maybe that's offensive to someone else too?

No.. the word has no bearing on real world ethics or sensibilities and has been used in MMORPGs for at least 17 years. Let it stay. Its a word used like Mob instead of mobile object, agro to determine how much attention a mob gives a player, and raid to describe a group of groups. Its part of MMORPG culture.

Did you seriously just write that?

Anyway, personally I don't really care. If it was changed to "removed", that's fine. As long as it's still a word that has some kind of resemblance as to what's happening, it's all good.

    Removed
    Kicked

Nice to see someone understands me :D Not sure why a bunch of people came in and complained the OP was offended by the word kicked, I don't think anyone said that xD

But yeah on topic, it would be interesting if we could select a reason for the kick. Literally tick remove and a box comes up and says Reason: and there's a couple options. And it either sends mail or notification message to the person that was kicked. And it also shows up in the guild history for other members to see. And of course the written and audio notification that members get also says the reason, or at least that they were kicked/removed, not incorrectly saying they left :)
