Do not buy Crown Crates!!!

I don't mind spending money on the game but what I do mind is not being able to play the blasted thing. If I pay a monthly fee for the ESO premium then by golly I should not be experiencing logging issues. Every since the One Tamirel update there has been continuous long loading screens, and worse, not being able to log in at all because of timing out anywhere from 30 min to 2 hrs and 15 min. Now newest problem is not being able to logout at all. Have to hard restart to get to char screen. Playing in Cyrodiil has become a nightmare because of random loading screens. I have had enough of this. This has been a fun game but if you / they do not fix this problem, Zenimax will have one less paying customer. I'm over this!

People have to realize : those boxes are like if Amazon started selling "book boxes". Cost only 1 dollar but you don't get to choose your book - surprise !! And you might also get a pile of blank paper too.

Can I afford to blow money on this? Sure, I'm in my 50s and well off. Me in my 20s wouldn't even consider it. If I had a gambling addiction, I'd probably avoid the internet as much as possible, as the object of my addiction would just be too readily available. It is up to each person to decide for themselves what environment they are in.

You know what, I think what's most sickening about this whole scam is that the costumes and such were the players' idea in the first place.

We asked to pay for them. After the Legerdemain/Justice update we started wearing the stuff that the itemization team accidentally discovered we liked wearing.

Then the Crown Store.

Now the scam boxes are definitely not a mechanism we asked for. No one said, "Please give me the content I want but with only a chance to get it, otherwise giving you money for something I don't want."

I cancelled auto-renew on Monday when they announced.

I was slightly hopeful on Tuesday when they realsed December Crown Store showcase..

I dumped my banked crowns, a considerable amount on the boxes and got nada.

It is every bit as terrible as I thought it would be.

My three month auto renew hit last month.

They won't get another dollar out of me crowns, sub, whatever.

I'm pretty sure they could have made it worse but they would have had to work had to do so

I think the creates are a fair value, its gambling... You will win some and loose some. I came out ahead but I spent way more than I usually would just to test the system.

I think my break even was after about $200.00 in creates had been opened. At this point I had 1 Apex mount and almost every other item below Apex. $200+ I pulled ahead fast because everything was dropping duplicate items.

If the gambling adds to the developers budget I am happy to see it as an option for those who whish to participate.

More operating cash should = more cash for developers.

Haha, well if that is the case then they will just have to settle for my ESO Plus subscription for the time being. I spend my money more wisely and if the crates had more things of interest to me then I would have considered getting more. But as it stands I deemed the game fun enough to risk the crowns I had on them. Suppose the real question is then, are you supporting ZOS hard enough?

I've only subbed since day one on pc and buy crowns from time to time. So no, I'm barely even throwing any support their way.
But rest assured friend, this is only the beginning. You have my word that we will eventually have so many awesome things in the crates, you'll want to blow your entire paycheck on them. Basically we hope to evolve the crates from mere, fun scam boxes to absolutely necessary for game enjoyment.

Lol, define awesome? I can't imagine what would be worth spending a lot of money on for the slight chance of acquiring but perhaps that is a failure of imagination on my part.

I get what you are saying but I don't see that turn happening, gambling crowns on a maybe box is a far step from pay to win style mechanics. And should that turn ever occur, then at that point I will not play the game. But as it stands it is simply a crown roulette for aesthetics and random stuff. Hardly the end of the game or worth all the anger it seems to be incurring.

That turn may never occur. We can only hope. Mmo track record for that is not in our favor I'm afraid. Either way, doesn't affect me now because I think the stuff in them is dumb. But one day they'll put something badass in there I want. And here I'll sit with all these crowns going to waste, wishing to buy it outright.

That much I most certainly understand, if there had been something in the store I actually wanted I would have been far more inclined to purchase it with crowns directly rather than gamble. And should something pop up that I would really want that is only available in the crates I would be annoyed by the highly unlikely chance of getting it.

That is the complete and total BS way of understanding what they are. It can't be a scam because YOU ALL KNOW EXACTLY what they are. And ZOS explained how they work. They aren't forced upon anyone. You make the decision if you are going to give it a shot. There is no scam.

@Publius_Scipio Wrong, they're inherently a scam because it's a method of taking money without providing value to the customer. It doesn't become not a scam under the dubious pretense that people "know what they are". The whole thing was literally created by a behaviorist to take advantage of common consumer ignorance. You know what wouldn't be a scam? Putting the items up for direct purchase. A scam isn't something forced on people, it's something that people get tricked into engaging with.

The point is, for most people the only thing in their of any worth is the exclusive item.
Anything else in the box is superfluous window dressing and smoke and mirrors to hide the scam.
To get the exclusive item...you must gamble.

For those loaded with money this is not an issue.
For those that arent loaded with money, and have little self control, this is a massive problem.
Many people really do have little self control.....they can be wound up...and triggered...really easily.
Some people are just as easily seduced by the lure of the unobtainable as others are by intimidation.

I know exactly what I am purchasing, a chance to get something with useless crowns I get every month that accumulate with no use for. I did not spend one dollar over what I pay for my monthly subscription anyway.

I feel sorry for the few who can not control their impulses and over buy such items, but some of us can enjoy a beer or a glass of wine without drinking the whole case.

I worked over 30 years owning my own company so I can retire and do what I want, and thank goodness I can.

Now if we could only convert AP to Gems!

I don't understand why you guys are complaining about having to buy a bunch of these crates for a RARE item. the word rare means it is unlikely you'll run into someone with this item. if everyone could buy it, then it wouldn't be rare. Let it be what it is, something special if you get lucky. The crates should really be purchased for the items you know your going to get in the crate. stop buying them for something you might get if your lucky and complaining that you didn't get one.

I myself was running around on my strom atro mount and I legit saw at least 20 people with one also.

Granted I have no idea how much money they spent to rare could be accurate however I myself and others like me ended up spending $50-$100 and got the mount.

However we were also the "WHALES" LOL... that bought 30k crowns during the sale due to knowing what the PTS crown crates were like I'm telling you now... it's a million times better than what it was hands down.
