Interesting. It's actually much worse. Looks like pts reduced support quite a bit.

What is interesting to me is that you rely on a poll from these forums the majority hasn't even voted in. For all we know only 20% of the entire community could be against.
The few that actually use these forums and participate in discussions and polls are not representative of this community as a whole.

But they are representative of the most engaged and passionate ESO players. It's a sample size of the most dedicated playerbase, so you'd think they'd pay attention.

I still think it's easily summarised by pointing out that Crates add NOTHING to the game, and provide zero benefits to any players. There's already a system in place for selling mounts, pets, outfits, consumables etc, at a fair price that guarantees players get exactly what they want, at a fixed price. How does choosing to sell them through Crates benefit the player base? It doesn't. If you want a Storm Mount you now have to pay a ridiculous amount of cash, literally hundreds of pounds, before you'll have enough Crown Gems to buy the mount you want. There is a VERY SLIM chance that you'll "win" the mount you want by opening the crates, and even if you do obtain that way it'll still be highly likely to have cost you more Crowns than simply buying it directly from the already established Crown Store would have done.

This is undeniably a middle finger to the community, and it baffles me that some people can't see it.

Negative/angry people tend to be more vocal and expressing their opinion. The same was the case when One Tamriel dropped. There were many negative threads on the forums of people asking for ZOS to roll back the changes and so on. The ones that actually enjoyed the update simply kept playing and enjoying the game.

Yep, that's why polls are great indications. People are more likely to create threads or type responses when they disapprove of something, but polls don't have that same bias. It's a simple click and done job, that attracts all forum goers. And Crown Crates have without doubt been the most negatively received addition to the game.

Again, it's not hard to see why. Crown Crates don't benefit the players. They add nothing beneficial, and nothing new. Just a more expensive and randomised method to obtain in-game items, when there was already a fair way to obtain them working perfectly well. It's exploitation of addiction and collection personality types.

Yep, I had plenty of crowns saved up, so opened enough crates to get the only thing I really wanted -- the wolf atronach. Along the way to finally getting it, I got a lot of junk, some useful items, some pets and a couple of other atronach mounts. All in all, it was fun and rewarding in the end. But now I have no reason to buy more crates since there's nothing else I want.

i bought one crate because i was interested in getting gems to buy one item. but i only got 3 gems with 4 cards. i got one useless memento that i'll never use and i didn't find any way to convert it to gems. so, after my first crate, i got a lot of doubts and immediately stopped buying more of it. in fact i really hate the new awful atronach mounts and, before i'm sure that i can convert one of those ugly things to gems if i get one from crates, i'll never buy another crate again.

anyone knows how to convert a memento to gems and if we can convert those atronach mounts to gems?

Unfortunately we can't. ZOS seems to be convinced that forcing people to keep mounts, pets, etc. they do not want in their collection is what we want...

This is precisely what prevents me from buying the scam crates, I'm only interested in the feathered bycoket (because it doesn't make my characters look bald, unlike the crown store version) and the blackmane lion. None of the other items are of any interest to me, but as I am forced to accept them I'll not buy crates.

Unfortunately we can't. ZOS seems to be convinced that forcing people to keep mounts, pets, etc. they do not want in their collection is what we want...

No, they do it this way because they are already giving you Gems for duplicates and consumables. Gems are the bad side of the Crown Crates, for ZOS, because it allows you to purchase items with fewer Crate purchases. ZOS-Thinking says that they gave us the ability to cash in Consumables, and they are probably scratching their collective noggins trying to figure out why anyone would do that, so they have nothing else to consider.

For every person who shows out an atro mount in Rawl or who comes onto the forum and brag about their luck, how many are there who spent just as much and got essentially nothing?

What Deltia got is not indicative of what to expect, but neither is the experience of what you got. These systems work because people look at stories like yours and look at the people in Rawl showing off their atro mounts and say to themselves, "That could be me!"

And the antidote for that is to remind people that they could have a very different outcome.

That is why threw out it is random. And yes I would have been fine with my purchase either way. I didn't buy them thinking I would get anything specific. If I didn't get anything cool I would try again later. So yes I would still say keep up the work.

I think me stating it was random at the beginning of my post clearly shows I know it's random. Anyone who has played eso or most any other MMO should learn what random means.

Know why I would be happy with my purchase either way? I go into it thinking I may not get the best reward possible, so when I do get something great I feel even better with my purchase.

I am just trying to get across that just because 1 person has bad luck does not mean everyone will, same goes for those with good luck. Don't want to chance it? Don't buy them. But also don't be jealous you can't have what those who took the chance have.

Btw the antidote line at the bottom goes both ways. Those seeing deltias video may say that could be me and not buy them. Well the antidote to that could be telling them that they may have better results.

I opened 21 crates. I bought one 5500 crown pack, and subscription crowns paid for the rest. I converted all the consumables to gems to help buy the stuff I really wanted but didn’t get from the cards.

It was fun to find out how the crown crates actually work. I think Zeni have done a very good job on it. Definitely a win-win transaction.

My khajiit was very pleased to meet Pacrooti in person at last. It felt more like sitting on Santa's knee than having an encounter with a street hustler.

I didn't get an apex mount, but I did get exactly what I was aiming at.

I have been after a skin of some kind for quite a while, and the Mind Shriven one will do just nicely. I'm a strictly-solo PVE player, so the quests that drop skins are not really available to me in-game. Getting a mind-shriven mount to go with it was a nice bonus.

I also got the wizard hat I wanted. My mage now looks a complete chump!

All the other collectibles I dropped will also be put to use. The costumes are especially useful now that I’m mixing dropped armour sets with crafted ones.

My one female character now has a proper dress to wear at last, and it turns out the harem veil looks exactly like the sort of heavy-duty chain-work muzzle a lady vampire should be wearing in polite company.

It's amazing how making a few cosmetic changes to a character can spark the imagination so much, and that really is worth more than gold to me.

And it does feel good to blow a little money on something so completely frivolous once in a while.

An entirely positive experience. I look forward to the next season.

I must say I am also very happy to be able to give Zeni some more money. I feel I owe them a reward. I’ve been playing their game for 18 months solid now and I’m still loving it. I hope they'll spend the money wisely, maybe to help finance new DLC, maybe to help finance their Christmas party, whatever’s the most fun. They deserve it.

tbh if they made my list of changes happen i'd be fine with them, well fine enough i guess to not be a total rip off

change 1: increase the quantity each consumable card gives, i mean seriously who wants just 5 potions or 25 poisons of something you haemorrhage through? needs to be upped to at least 25 potions and 100 poisons.
change 2: remove food and soulgems, even at a rate of 100 per card they are worth very little. repair kits i argue are partially useless but in larger bundles of 10 or at least 8 they work out worth it.
change 3: the extraction rates need to triple there's no doubt about it, nothing screams "ha ha we robbed you" then getting a repeat of a 2500 crowns costing mount only to get about 33 gems. hell i would take it as far as x4.
change 4: the scrolls... 2-3 per card. simple as.
change 5: riding lessons need to come in 3's to work out worth it.
change 6: Pacrooti's lines are toxic and you know this. he should only have a general greeting of:- "ahh welcome friend, good to see you, need some assistance with a crate today?"
his lines for when you open one should be ok as is.
Pacrooti's end lines need to stay on the terms of "hope you had fun with that one" or "not a bad find if i do say so myself" and of course congratulating you on getting anything higher tier.
these lines avoid feeding on addictions by NOT provoking them.

Unless someone can give a good reason in opposition, I see no reason why forum users wouldn't be a good sample to use. If they change them so they work like treasures from DotA 2 (limited to 5 items per treasure with the chance for a bonus item, no repeats, can sell items you don't want, possible to directly buy the items you do want), then I'd literally start throwing cash at my screen. But as it stands, I won't touch them. I only want that stupid wizard hat with goggles, and I'm not putting myself through all that ludicrous RNG to get it. The game has enough horrendous RNG as it is.

I bought and opened 12 crates. On the 10th or 11th crate I got the lightning bolt horse mount. Of course other stuff, but nothing worthwhile.

Also, I opened 8 on the day they were released. 4 at a time, at different times in the evening. Then 4 today, I cannot resist opening them, as really there is nothing in the shop I want, other then respec and occasional xp scrolls. I am very picky when it comes to mounts or costumes/style stuff. I was just taking a chance to get close enough to a legendary reward as I really want the Doom Wolf or all black wolf mount. If ZOS gave me an option to trade 1 for 1 with lightning bolt horse mount, I would do it. Even though this mount does look pretty sick.

I was gifted crowns by my awesome fiancé who's been watching me stress out for the last two weeks creating frame by frame animations and who knows I really wanted the Orchid nixad, Loon pet and Cloud senche mount and cub. I'm a lucky girl. I couldn't care less about atronach mounts or mementos, and 90% of the rest of what's in the crates.

After 45 crates, I didn't get an atronach mount, which I'm fine with, but I did get my nixad, loon, senche cub, senche mount, multiple different hats, a wolf mount, a hound, a lizard, all of the clothing, the new hair style, all of the atronach momentos, a few things I'm forgetting, and more potions, scrolls, lessons, mimic stones than I can count.

I'm good. I got what I wanted and have gems left over. What I did get was worth way more than I would have gotten in the crown store if I'd bought all these things outright.

Some of what I got, I can't even use because I don't have any Argonian or Khajiit characters. ZoS is looking at making sure these race-locked items don't go in crates again, so there's at least that.

If not for being handed three digital codes and more or less ordered to go "take a chance, do something fun, and stop worrying about it" I wouldn't have opened more than 1 crate for the sake of seeing these things for myself. (All the QQ and Praise in the world is not a substitute for first-hand seeing)

Time will tell whether or not the actual game benefits from the increased money rolling in, and whether or not all the awesome stuff slowly starts being locked behind the crates. I'm more or less "meh" about it all at this point.

I do hope that those with impulse issues are able to find a way to avoid the temptation. I'm sorry ZOS wasn't willing to consider that aspect of the crates, or try to take some sort of step to mitigate it.

The crates could have been handled better - and by that I mean in a more ethical fashion. Less egging on by that devious Khajiit, ability to trade in any item you don't want for gems, more transparency about the whole subject, etc. etc.

I'm willing to reserve final judgement until they've had another season to make improvements, or screw it up further.

Your first sentence explains why forum polls aren't representative: we aren't a random sample. We are a self-selected group made up of the most dedicated and socially active players, highly motivated to respond. You're missing a huge group of people who just play the game without interacting in online communities, you're missing people too apathetic about the issue to even bother voting in a forum poll.
