Well, there's a reason they're withholding information on drop rates. They could tell their customers but then that would be too much like purchasing a product or service, rather than gambling on a scam like 3 card monte.

If I go by what I had on the pts when crates were out from 20,000 crowns spent I got 2 apex mounts( guar, camel) tons of consumables, costumes and enough gems to buy the red wolf and still have about 280 odd gems left. Now we couldnt convert the consumable to gems then so don't know the ratio.

20K Crowns...that's almost $160...for only two mounts and a few costumes, and some junk potions.

    Not a good deal.

That's actually right in line for what I was willing to pay for the mounts, but the problem is that a drop rate is NOT equivalent to an individual experience, it's just a representation of the average of all attempts. So you're still extremely likely to get people spending way more than that, and walking away with nothing to show for it. It's heinous.

I have been playing ESO on PS4 since launch. I have the membership which gives me 1500 crowns a month. I fortunately have always bought what I wanted in the crown store only having to purchase extra crowns last year when the white bear came out and Maw if Lorkhaj cat mount came out. That being said, there is nothing in the store now or in the past that I would wish to acquire through a random box. I'm also siting on 5200 crowns right now as there is nothing of interest left to be bought in the crown store. So why would I buy and box of random junk I don't want with a chance to convert "select" items into a new curancy to buy a flashy new mount. Cut out the middle man ZOS and fill your store with great things people want and they will buy it regardless. That's how you will make your money and get people like me who are banking crowns month after month to spend them and buy more.

Agreed. They shouldn't. They should be burned in a pit of all other bad ideas. But I don't think we matter :( I genuinely can't play ESO without anxiety that they're going to pop up. It's a weird feeling tbh. I just think we deserve answers.

Whaaat!! Iv spent 400 dollars on the last eso crown sale for me and my sister in preparation for the crown crates. We plan on getting all the exclusive storm items as well as the other exclusive items in upcoming seasons.

"Plan on" and "actually accomplish" are two different things. You realize that 400 dollars is not enough to guarantee you'll get the mounts, right? And that there's mathematically no upper limit to how much you'll need to spend? It would be way better if you could just, you know actually buy the mounts in the store like a normal person. But they rely on people like you not knowing how percent chance works.

I agree I would way rather spend my crowns on the item directly but since that's not what zos is doing I'm forced to buy an obscene amount of crowns until o get what I want with no guarantee. I will buy more crowns if need be but 15 crates per 5000 crowns iv got about 150 chances. I think....?

We don't know and obviously we are expected to gamble our ACTUAL money to find out how something works - which is completely dirty on Zos' side.

As well, they could be completely bugged like the whatever cipher was. Who knows. We as players were not given the chance to test the "new improved" versions, and Zos was very VERY light on details.

    This is my real concern,

The Crates themselves coming to game is bad enough and has caused quite a huge response from the community, but the way they are being implemented into the game, completely blind with no info at all is even worse.

Having no choice but to spend actual real money to find how something works !! really, is that even legal ? because it should not be.

100% agree. Plus without knowing drop rates we have no idea if they'll be working as intended.

There not going to publish the drop rates ANYWHERE its gambling they want you to spend more money for there items other wise why not put them directly in the crown store at a price... it's clearly ment for the blind tools to throw money at nothing more!!

I do wish you luck but I hope you realise that if this idea becomes a success by ppl throwing crazy amounts of money at it 400+ it will become the normal for every item and then gone will be the days of buying anything directly out of the crowns store you prepared to spend $2000-3000 a year on these scam crates till your bank is drained ..then scream for the next idiot to throw money at them? This is exactly how these systems a set to work feed there production costs off the whales prepared to blindly throw money at them produce a little content till the fat whale becomes thin then move to the next!
I pay 19 a month for ffxiv and for that I get constant patches with heaps of content every 3 months give or take FOR FREE I might add.. is ZOS going to give free dlc for all this revenue there going to make off these scam boxes???? I think not there going to charge you for that as well .. disgusting!

The people whom you accuse of not giving back have mostly been here since launch. Supporting an unfinished game during the years before console launch with their subs. Supporting Tamriel through all manner of problems - bugs, balance issues, unexpected downtime - never yet giving up on something they still love despite all the kicks in the teeth they have received along the way.

Um. Subscriber, Imperial Edition pre-order and early access veteran, I own all of the costumes and mounts that I find attractive and am currently sitting on 25k crowns that I purchased. But call me old fashioned, I like to be able to choose what I'm buying. Tell me again how I don't give back to the game?

    ^^

I think with this game is that there is so much potential with it, and all the players who have been here since the beginning are still waiting for that to happen. I was here from the beginning and I have continuously supported this game until very recently. I have stopped subscribing because I feel that there is no point in me subbing anymore. I do however buy items from the crown store, and I will try a bundle of these crates, but I doubt I will support the crates as much as its a gamble, and im a terrible addict for gambling.

Unfortunately the game has a pull on me that no other game can actually fill yet. Until that game comes along (red dead redemption 2 i'm waiting) I will deal with the loading screens, cut outs, lag, and the genuine mess of what is called cyrodiil these days ;)

For starter been here since pc beta too so also a vet. Im not saying you have to buy the crates im just saying dont complaim when they sell exclusive cosmetics even if in crown crates. Because if they make money thats good thats better dlc's they have the budget to produce for everyone. Cant have free to play not expect things like crown crates because at the end of the day they are running a business.

The same could be said for any business. If I go clothes shopping I don't expect a mystery box, nor if I order from a restaurant, or buy a mobile phone. Why should we have them in gaming?

They have three regular sources of income at the moment - subscriptions (which provide financial security), crown store (which if given a decent and regular amount of stock would be a nice earner) and box sales. They're not on skid row here, they're just being greedy.

That is exactly nail on head, the only places this sort of thing happens is in casinos and in video games. I don't go to the grocery store and buy a gamble bag of food, I don't go to the clothes store and buy a gamble bag of clothes, I don't know why some people are OK with this. This is ESO, not Vegas.

What does it matter no one is forcing you to buy them? Its 1 mount not the end of the world. And every mmo has something similar to crown crates. And your wrong your local grocery store does have a gambling machine its called a skill tester. It drops a toy how ever often the owner tells it to and in 1951 they were banned by federal law in America because they were deemed gambling devices. Its only later on the ban was lifted. Even in some states today its still banned unless the user can make repeated attempts and win a prize hence why skill tester today have the added claw fow winning lollies on the side.

What does it matter no one is forcing you to buy them? .

It matters because if the crates do well and generate much revenue then the focus will move even more towards the sale of the crates and the exclusives in them rather than game content - and similar mischief.

Why spend so much time and effort and money making a complex and interesting game when you can just sell crates?

Also more will end up in the crates and less in the store. Less available for travellers to purchase in an honest and open way for a clearly defined price.

In the end all we will have is the Elder Crates Online: Gambling Unlimited.

Would you agree if it were gear with stats? What if some people consider a decent looking outfit to be as important to their gaming experience as you might if it were a piece of the Viper set for example? You might not personally find it that important, but consider and try to understand the fact that other people do for this reason.
