The codes are platform specific, yes.

Well, I got it from steam and it will automatically download on the 28th, afaik. This is what steam has posted about it:With Skyrim Special Edition releasing next week, watch the new gameplay trailer
For anyone that owns the main game and all three DLCs (Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn), you will receive Skyrim Special Edition separately in your Steam Library at no additional cost.
Eligible Skyrim purchasers include:
Anyone that owns Skyrim Legendary Edition on Steam.
Anyone that owns Skyrim and all three DLCs (Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn) on Steam.
To ensure eligibility, you must own all Skyrim content on Steam on or before October 28th.
Please note that if you do not complete your Skyrim + all DLC bundle until October 28th, your free upgrade to Skyrim Special Edition may take up to 36 hours to apply to your account.
Skyrim Special Edition will be available for purchase at its global release time of 12am UTC on Friday, October 28. Region-specific unlock times include:
5pm Pacific Time (October 27)
8pm Eastern Time (October 27)
1am British Summer Time (October 28)
]2am Central European Summer Time (October 28)
11am Australian Eastern Time Zone (October 28)
1pm New Zealand Time (October 28th)
The pre-download is available now. So you can download it and rush to be the first to log on the moment the unlock happens.
To add a fun rumor to go with that, the first person who logins into Skyrim SE will have Adluin jump from the monitor and make them a nice cup of tea.
So you need a Physical copy of the game boo. I hate switching discs.

I'm sorry but with no new content, it doesnt really feel like a new game for me(at least on PC). Consoles yes, I can understand. New generation, newer graphics so new game. But PC was already up to modern standards albeit with mods.
I see the remastered Skyrim on PC as nothing more than a minor thing. Nothing that I would pay for. I doubt I will play it more than a couple hours, and then only just to see what they did. Even as a free item, it might be too expensive. Skyrim was interesting for the first few hundred hours, but now that ESO is out, it is a boring and lonely game.
The ESO mount would get more use.

When taking a break from ESO, I still play Skyrim Legendary on Steam. Looking forward to free Remastered!

Thats not why people are buying it on Console. Skyrim has a huge following and many were sorry to leave it when they upgraded to the newer Consoles. And since the consoles PS4 werent backwards compatible there was no way of playing it on the new systems.
Theres quite a few games that I would have loved to have kept from PS3 and used on my PS4 but unfortunately thats not possible. Heres to hoping when Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out next fall theyll be selling Red Dead Redemption in the PS Store.
I got my copy today and entered code but it gave me an error to check instructions and might need to redeem elsewhere. Does it need to be the 28th to redeem it on Xbox?

how would that work though?, the codes used will have been made by the platform holders themselves and not by Bethesda/ZoS, plus all 3 platforms will use different redeem code formats.
