With this new scaling shenanigans, raising the Gear CP level would be pointless. Typically when games increase the max level it is because new content and gear are locked behind that new max level. Thanks to scaling, gear or content will never be locked behind a certain CP level. The only thing raising the gear CP level would do is make people grind for a few hours and then spend from hundreds of thousands to millions of gold recrafting and regrinding their gear.

Highest consistent subscriber count in the last 5 years.... but then again I would like to know how many murlocs we killed...
Update: Blizzard Entertainment claims Tom Chilton never discussed the World of Warcraft subscriber numbers. The 10.1 million subscriber statement is being attributed to either a misunderstanding or a mistranslation on the part of PIXEL.

Bolded for truth.
They'll have an easier time balancing around CPs, and adding and reworking gear set, then they would raising the gear level cap at this point. It would server no purpose, other than to frustrate the players.
