I'd be up for CP180 gear if:

    1. Damage Proc sets all stay CP160. Sorry, they have to go, and go away big time.

    2. Crafted sets get either an overhaul to be the best available, or we add some REAL nice new 10 trait options that are better than any drop/farmed set. Stop giving crafter type players the shaft.

    3. Jewelry crafting. Enough RNG, just farm the mats to improve that green ring to gold. Make a jewelry set out of anything craftable.

    4. Lower the material cost requirement a little. We'll hate you SO much less for it if every piece doesn't take 150 rubedite and 8 gold tempers.

I've been in the "just have gear scale" camp since 1T was announced. Any upgrade shouldn't be level-based.

Maybe adding trait slots (and new traits, would work well with a main trait/sub-trait system). Main traits like impen, infused, etc. on head, legs, chests, minor traits on other armore pieces.

Have useful/interesting trait combos and learn to make new ones/get mats with quests/farming. Gear updates=expanding options in this system. Forget levels.

    Hopefully never.

With this new scaling shenanigans, raising the Gear CP level would be pointless. Typically when games increase the max level it is because new content and gear are locked behind that new max level. Thanks to scaling, gear or content will never be locked behind a certain CP level. The only thing raising the gear CP level would do is make people grind for a few hours and then spend from hundreds of thousands to millions of gold recrafting and regrinding their gear.

    Bolded for truth.

They'll have an easier time balancing around CPs, and adding and reworking gear set, then they would raising the gear level cap at this point. It would server no purpose, other than to frustrate the players.

I wouldn't have an issue with them going to 180 or above gear. My problem is gold tempers and their ridiculous price. One thing they can do to help alleviate the headaches and concerns is to grant back at least half of the gold tempers to you when you decon older gear. Say you have 7 pieces of 160 armor that's legendary, now assuming you used all 8 pieces of wax or alloy per piece that's 56 gold tempers, at wax that would be around 392K, alloys on full heavy, 532K, just to gold out your armor. That's insane and we haven''t even begin to talk about upgrading weapons.

If we got half of those back then I would not mind taking a couple hours to gather silk, leather or rub ore if I am crafting gear or spending some time with friends farming dungeons, delves, and trials for dropped sets. Cause lets face it, I have fun doing that when everyone is in TS having a great time. I PvP 90% of the time and it helps out tremendously to have legendary gear on your character, sure it's absolutely possible with purple armor but you have to gold out your weapons or you're gimping yourself big time.

Case in point... Last week I deconed 7 pieces of light gold armor because I was not going to use it anymore and it was already bound. Thinking out of those 7 pieces I would have at least get back 4 wax, I only got back 1 out of 56. That is just a kick in the face and I am maxed out at 50 for tailoring.

    Just a thought...

As soon as they notice the actual in game population and the crown store decreasing. Raising the gear cap would be a lazy way to make people play again, without actually introducing any new content. I haven't bothered farming any set or item specifically, just did the daily pledges and be glad when something good dropped. And until ~CP400 didn't even bother changing CP140 (VR14) purple gear and did just fine. I won't bother to farm or re-craft anything if the gear CP cap is increased by less than 50. CP20 matters very little in the grand scheme of things, probably less than 3% overall stats.

I really hope it won't happen. But then again I don't think that ZOS will increase the gear cap, as we are scaled anyway, so technically we are always at the gear cap.

I think that the best thing to do at this point is to redesign the whole gear and crafting system. Gear scales to you, and there are no more material tiers. So instead of the tiers, introduce something new like *cough* trait changing *cough* and some other cool stuff that will make crafters feel like they didn't grind for nothing.

I have not fully upgraded any new armor in a long, long time since I am contemplating this very question.

On my main character, I am wearing the original set I golded out over a year ago when IC first launched... I spent weeks making sure my setup would work ok in pve and pvp and be long-lived - it has done just that for me.

It takes a lot of restraint to not farm/upgrade a lot of new sets but I feel a little sense of pride that I have not followed the trends as new FOTM builds develop.

I've thought long and hard about whether I need to gold out armor for alts - I've done this once and otherwise use purple armor.

I'm a casual, humble working class Bosmer and I don't have time to farm gold all day. I do writs on one character each day and hoarde my gold tempers like a chipmunk hoarding acorns for the winter.

Until I know for sure whether the gear cap will be raised or not, I will continue my fiscally conservative ways.
