Slime-claw monster set. Health Recovery?... really?

Slime-Claw Monster set
(1 items) Adds 129 Health Recovery
(2 items) Gain Minor Berserk at all times, increasing your damage done by 8%.

I was very excited to see this set come out. Finally on my Stamina Nightblade i could throw away Relentless Focus and Slot something else. Buffing every 15 second's has become a real chore and i'm happy there is a Monster set that will give you this buff. The effect on your arms is also very cool!

I have one problem though ZOS....

Why does the 1 piece have to be health recovery? Completely turns me away. Out of all the things you could of used it had to be Health Recovery....

Lets take a look at all the one piece sets and see what we get. Below here are all the One Piece set bonuses for every single Monster Mask in game after one Tamriel. I've even broken them into New/Old and piled the ones with the same bonuses together.

New Monster Set's coming One Tamriel
  • Chokethorn - (1 items) Adds 129 Magica Recovery
  • Shadowrend - (1 items) Adds 129 Magica Recovery
    *
  • Iceheart - (1 items) Adds 688 Spell Critical
    *
  • Ilambris - (1 items) Adds 967 Max Magicka
  • Infernal Guardian - (1 items) Adds 967 Max Magicka
  • Grothdarr - (1 items) Adds 967 Max Magicka
    *
  • Kra'gh - (1 items) Adds 1935 Physical Penetration
    *
  • Pirate Skeleton - (1 items) Adds 1935 Physical Resistance + (1 items) Adds 1935 Spell Resistance
    *
  • Selene - (1 items) Adds 967 Max Stamina
  • Sellistrix - (1 items) Adds 967 Max Stamina
  • Tremorscale - (1 items) Adds 967 Max Stamina
  • Stormfist - (1 items) Adds 129 Stamina Recovery
  • Swarm Mother - (1 items) Adds 129 Stamina Recovery
  • Troll King - (1 items) Adds 2% Healing Done
  • Sentinel of Rkugamz - (1 items) Adds 2% Healing Done
    *
  • Slimeclaw - (1 items) Adds 129 Health Recovery

Old Monster Set's
  • Blood Spawn - (1 items) Adds 129 Stamina Recover
    *
  • Engine Guardian - (1 items) Adds 129 Health Recovery
    *
  • Lord Warden - (1 items) Adds 1935 Spell Resistance
  • Mighty Chudan - (1 items) Adds 1376 Spell Resistance + (1 items) Adds 1376 Physical Resistance
    *
  • Molag Kena - (1 items) Adds 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
  • Velidreth - (1 items) Adds 129 Weapon Damage
    *
  • Maw of the Infernal - (1 items) Adds 1064 Max Health
  • Nerien'eth - (1 items) Adds 1064 Max Health
  • Nightflame - (1 items) Adds 1064 Max Health
  • Scourge Harverster - (1 items) Adds 1064 Max Health
  • Spawn of Mephala - (1 items) Adds 1064 Max Health
  • Valkyn Skoria - (1 items) Adds 1064 Max Health

Now after looking at all the One piece sets with the new monster sets, it looks like Slimeclaw is a complete after thought. It's like a ZOS employee went and said, "Hey uh... we don't have a health recovery monster set coming in One Tamriel, what should be do?"..... "Ahhh just throw it on Slimeclaw, its a dps set so no one will care."

Can we please reevaluate Slimeclaw's one piece? To me it's a DPS set. In my personal opinion i think it should increase Critical Damage by a tiny margin. This would make it a good set for both magicka and stamina but also a bit unique. I understand that health recovery was probably picked because it does increase damage with its 2 piece but technically your loosing a lot of damage using this set on classes that can already obtain this buff and use other strong monster sets at the same time. So in my opinion giving the set Critical Damage by 3.4% is helpful. All of these critical chance set bonuses we see these days need a Critical Damage set bonus to help them be more viable.

So to conclude, Zos if you could chance the One piece set bonus on Slime Claw that would be very appreciated. Also i think it would be a good idea to somewhere fit in a spell damage and penetration set bonus to give magicka builds more options... its pretty sad to see Magicka didn't get any variety with 1 piece set bonuses like stamina has.

If you have any thoughts or opinions on Monster Set 1 piece bonuses feel free to chime in.

Here's a thread that has some discussion about the Slimeclaw set that may be interesting to some. Kind of just reinforces my opinion about Slimeclaws one set bonus. There's actually some discussion in this thread mentioning that the Slimeclaw set should get a rework because in many situations its worthless compared to other monster sets and the fact nightblades assassins will and combat prayer already give you the buff. In my opinion it just needs an additional perk, like movement speed on kill or something of that nature. Thread below:

Heres another pts thread about slimeclaw if anyones interested. In this thread there is discussion related to adding additional benifits to slimeclaw or changing the 2 piece bonus.

It would be too strong is it had anything else except maybe health.

All the other monster sets have a proc chance. This is straight up 8% more damage all the time. That's a lot. I definitely wouldn't wear this on a nb though. Rather use a skill (that gives stam regen and free proc damage too).

Health recovery is terrible though. Should replace it with health or restances at least.

would be nice if the health recovery trait would be a bit larger than stam or mag, just like with enchants - health is always larger than stam or mag.

This set is trash quite honestly.

It would only ever be useful to a DK/Templar/Sorc in solo play as they don't have a means of obtaining Minor Berserk outside Combat Prayer and in group player, that's covered by healers. I cannot fathom removing Grim Focus from my hotbar on my NB; That is extra crit for having it slotted, 8% extra damage AND the hardest hitting, non-ultimate move in the game. Also, getting rid of my Velidreth or Nereineith sets on my Stamblade and Magblade seems like a much bigger DPS loss than having to reapply a buff every few seconds.

They could change the 1 piece to whatever they wanted and the set still wouldn't be worth it on a NB, and definitely not in group play.

Probably they thought it would be useful just for soloing and IMO that's where this set is useful to some degree; in groups you have the same damage buff from combat prayer - that skill should be in every healer's rotation. Stamina recovery would have made it really unbalanced in PvP though, and everybody would have changed the ugly gargoyle head with an even uglier croc one :)

Honestly id prefer solo players get Minor Beserk with Slime Claw instead of using Velidrith, Blood Spawn or Malubeth.

Stam dks, sorcs or templars are way harder to kill when they have these sustain monster sets or Velidrith for that burst. Would rather then wear slime claw xD

Actually, bud, you've got a point. Health recovery is kinda... blah...

From the list of other helms that you posted, though, I see one "spell crit". Perhaps they could change Slimeclaw to "weapon crit" to make it on par with the rest.

Just my two cents worth. ;)

If its weapon crit magicka builds wont use it :( , cant leave them behind!

As a 60k health shield stacking tank you would still prefer a different bonus then health recovery

Greedy is the last thing i am. I advocate for a lot of balance in this game. Changing 1 monster set piece that isnt even yet is far from greedy. Just a humble forum users opinion.

I personally think Malubeth will still be used for Sun Shielders but who knows maybe this would make them decent.

How exactly can you stack 60K health? I've made a calculation and the maximum you can stack is ~47K if you:
    - are Imperial
    - put all points in health
    - put all health enchants on your armor with infused on all
    - use sets that give you mostly health bonuses ex. Ebon Armory + new Green Pact or Plague Doctor sets
    - wear 1L/1M/5H for undaunted mettle bonus
Where do you get the extra 13K from?

What about Structured Entropy? Let's see:

Green Pact + Plague Doctor + 1pc Monster helm that gives health + 1pc Monster Helm that gives health. Everything Infused. Everything Legendary. Everything Heavy (max health from heavy armor passive- it's the same as the undaunted passive of 2%). Structured Entropy. All points toward health. And the Lady Mundus stone?

    How much is that?

Edit: Oh! And make sure to add that the person would be carrying an infused shield (healthy enchantment) as well!

That adds 8% So about 3.8K. I didn't mention the bonuses from slotted skills and I did assume food bonus. But there are still 10K unaccounted for. Not that a 60K health tank would be effective - stamina is still the most important resource for block, interrupts, roll dodge from red - but I'm just curious for the sake of theory crafting.

Thats kind of why i suggested changing the one piece bonus on slime-claw.

From a PvE perspective, combat prayer should be on your dps at all times. So this set isnt that good for that envoirment.

In pvp, its putting in the most damage within the first couple seconds that counts most which is why Velidrith/Skoria is so strong.

In my opinion this set is great for all stamina classes for more damage but would you really wanna loose a different monster set just for 8% more damage? Im not really sure. For nbs it frees up a skill slot at the expense of your monster set.

Id be happy to see stam dk/temp/sorcs use this monster set over alternatives in my opinion. It would make them easy to take out compared to BloodS or Malubeth.

All though would using just 1 kena, 1 velidrith be better? 250 weapon damage is quiet a lot.

Its a weird set overall. I do see heavy attack dks using this set.

It's recognition from ZOS for the health regen builds out there, I love the set and see a lot of players utilising it well.

    ^This.^

Don't like the health recovery 1-piece bonus? Use another 1-piece monster helm or shoulder ... the OP even did extra credit by listing out the other new monster 1-piece bonuses so that you can choose from within the thread.

Need crit damage instead? You can pick that up with buffs or the Shadow Mundus ...

Just because it doesn't fit into the OP's playstyle doesn't mean other players won't use it ...

Health regen builds is probably the smallest minority in the game.

The health regen on this set doesnt fit my playstyle yes but it doesnt fit a large majority of playstyles unless your in that health regen minority.

I mentioned Crit damage because currently there is no crit based monster set.

I will probably use another monster set instead of Slimeclaw, im just dissapointed in it.

Healt regen is pretty useless when someone can spam-burst you with 6K in the time you heal 2K :)

Why would you ever even consider dropping relentless focus ? One of the best burst abilities in existence.

One of craglorns world events gives minor berserk for 1 hour, so this set is 100% pointless to use unless you dont wanna leave cyro each hour to regain it.
