PSA: Many named items are being *RETROACTIVELY* upgraded to set items

You've all deconned plenty of these staves, right?
WWoMJwy.png

Now look at what that staff in your inventory becomes when you go onto the PTS:
0bqcrjx.png

Some more from vWGT/vICP:
0bqcrjx.pngZuenak9.pngoxwSMce.pngQx5a06b.pngz0dqzvO.pngcVKtf8a.pngCpeL9Mk.pngjqZJWBd.png96oSqJZ.pngv3FPEhW.pngqxSKBJd.png6XsB2kr.png

Many other named trash drops and quest rewards have been upgraded, too:
1PhGOAA.png1N60CPk.pngNyOXOqM.pngn4w6KmL.pngBIDlb9w.pngWDd9iBF.pngoBeHskL.pngBXyQrA1.png4qAEFhV.png

This is just a sampling. I'm sure there's many more.

What this means: All of the items here are retroactive upgrades. I.e., these set bonuses are being added to items that you already have. So if you own a "Molag Kena's Touch" staff that you looted before Update 12, once Update 12 hits, you'll find that the staff will have a SPC set bonus. It means that, if you want to run Leeching Plate with a sword slot, you can save up those junk "Warden's Courage" drops that you currently get in vICP, as they'll be upgraded to Leeching set items in Update 12.

How do I know if an item that I currently have will be upgraded to a set item in Update 12, and to which set? The easiest way is to check an item link on the PTS. On the Live Server, link an item into your chatbox, but instead of posting it into chat, you copy the item onto your clipboard. Then paste this item link into the chat box on the PTS and see what the item looks like.

Warning about binding: Many of these items are currently BoE (e.g., Warden's Courage) or not even bindable (e.g., Snowy Signet), so they can be freely traded or sold on the Live server, but once Update 12 hits, they will all become bound. So if you want to trade them around, make sure that's all done before Update 12 goes live.

LOL, I guess if someone wanted to run Scathing on a dual-wield bar? (But then you'd want swords!) Yea, many of these don't make much sense, but there are some that do (e.g., the Leeching Plate sword, as it means that Leeching+Bahraha builds won't have the 4p Bahraha bonus be subject to the kinks of bar swapping).

It's very cool and it applies everywhere.

I wanted to pretend I'm a new, no CP player to see what that will feel like, so I rolled a new stamsorc. Many of the same old quest rewards in Khenarthi's Roost are now part of the new "Trainee" set (2 pcs + health, 3 +magicka, 4 +stamina and 5 about 2.5 times the amounts you already got but for all 3 stats - many of those also come with the "training" trait.)

You also get those from looting chests (master and advanced are pretty well guaranteed to have them) and presumably mob drops as well, although I didn't see any from mobs.

Do the items scale? I'd love to get some of the "cool named" items in sets at cp160 like the Master Tracker's Bow.

Almost that it looks like this conversion was done randomly. Hope Zos can revisit this.

Yeah. Everything scales. You go there at CP160+ and you'll get the Trainee stuff from chests, quests, etc.

It is indeed. My new player on the PTS experiment was aimed precisely at seeing what it would be like to be a new player and just go anywhere. After Khenarthi's Roost I headed to Craglorn at level 9 :)

Did a couple of quests and soloed a couple of delves including the delve mini-boss with my 5-piece Trainee set... no sweat. Then I went to Wrothgar at level 10 and did the same... slightly more of a challenge but again, no problem really.

They might be giving low level characters an extra bolster - I seem to recall reading somewhere that they were going to do that. After a day of doing this my skepticism about new players being able to go anywhere is pretty well gone. It felt like a good experience even with my measly 5 abilities.

oh lol.. no SPC resto staff? The only resto staff in this list is going to be Scathing Mage? And no Scathing Mage destro staff, but 2 maces?
Who the f*** is in charge here? The next best intern with absolutely no clue about this game? Or was it random - and we all know how good "random" items fit your playstyle in this game.. *sigh*

If this change goes live like this i won't shed a tear for all my deconstructed stuff.. I wouldn't want that [snip] anyway.

    Nice move of ZOS <3

I always resented to decon special rewards like family heirlooms
"I still do not understand why I followed the advice of Captain Rana to bring the villagers of Bleakrock into safety. We should have fought for our village and not have backed down, with our tail between our legs. Now my home village is in shambles, the houses burning, the invaders feasting.I swear every day to Shor that after Molag Bal has been defeated, I will hunt down the invaders and restore peace in Bleakrock and drink my mead with my friends at the market place".PC-EU

    No Resto SPC piece though........

Item pieces should drop for all slots. I haven't run vWGT on the PTS, but if their promise holds true, then there should be a "Restoration Staff of Spell Power Cure" somewhere, as a random drop with a random trait.

The staff in this thread is a named staff that is already dropping on Live as a common drop with a set trait that you can save up to be upgraded to a set item in Update 12. There may very well be a separate unnamed "Lightning Staff of Spell Power Cure" with random traits that will also drop once Update 12 hits.
