With the One Tamriel update coming in a few months, do you feel it would be helpful if the maximum limit of open quests were increased from 25?
When playing Skyrim, Oblivion or Morrowind, many of us simply pick some direction, wander off and explore, talk to some NPCs here or there, go wherever it seems our character would want to go. Almost inevitably, on the way to carry out some mission at the other end of the map I would get easily sidetracked and end up doing something totally different which lasts 100 hours.
ESO's limit of 25 quests is a kind of hard counter to this playing style. I have been at 25 quests consistently with every character since launch and if I ever want to pick up a quest, I have to delete something.
Always hated having to abandon any quest and consider if I ever want to go back to it again. Maybe I still wanted to do that quest someday, but there's no way to put it on the back burner if I feel like going somewhere else for a while.
This sort of ties in with the limitation of feeling the need to complete everything in one zone in a linear fashion, check a box, move to the next zone, check the box, etc. Already do that at work all day. When playing an open world sandbox RPG, it feels more relaxing if I can just go anywhere and not worry about my log not accepting new quests.
In the single player TES games, I just wander about and easily rack up 100 or more open quests. If I have a quest to turn in in some town that is far away, I would ride there on horse and along the way talk to some interesting NPCs, pick up even more quests, and maybe even actually complete a quest once in a while. I'd think to myself that if I ever visit Riften, I'll go check out that other quest I have in that area as well. Meanwhile, getting sidetracked with exploring some interesting dwemer ruins or picking flowers etc.
I realize some enjoy playing RPGs in a way that is rather different, doing one quest, checking the box, finding the next quest in the line, do that one, check the box.
However, there are also those of us who really enjoy the open world sandbox style, where you can just go anywhere and talk to anyone you think your character would want to talk to, and who cares about poor Martin Septim waiting at Weynon Priory while I'm working my way through the Dark Brotherhood instead. (I think I left Martin there for about a year before I ever got back to him. Still don't even know what happens after you take him to Cloud Ruler Temple.)
Hopefully One Tamriel will open up the entire world for this kind of exploration. If it does, however, I feel the limitation of 25 open quests is going to greatly restrict the Elder Scrolls "easily sidetracked" approach to quests.
