But why do people use so many abbreviations in this game and in other games? Has the skill of spelling became too complicated for so many out there? I'm not saying this to be mean, but most of the time I don't even understand what players are requesting, especially when it comes down asking people for dungeons in the zone.

us old folks have our own special code --- cursive writing.

popular usage will be the death knell of the english language.

Being illiterate has nothing to do with being an idiot. A genius who has never received an education is still a genius and could learn; an idiot who's had 12 years of schooling likely will not.

Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".

Yes, the language is deteriorating rapidly. It is a crying shame, really. These young whippersnappers use confusing symbols like tbsp, PhD, USA or etc - what is school education coming to?! Why, the other day I opened a dictionary(!) and right there in the definition I saw "adj." How am I supposed to know what it means? Truly, abbreviations are the scourge on our beautiful language.

I'm not a big fan of acronyms at all, but when it comes to MMOs you kinda gotta expect it. If you have time to elaborate and type 'properly', then you have time to think about what the acronyms and/or abbreviations mean. Think context and make a guess based off that. You'll be right more often than not. Either that or learn the lingo.

In any case, you don't have to abbreviate, but others most definitely will. You'll pick up on it, reading wise. Eventually, with some effort.

Mostly it's to transmit as much information in as little time as possible. When you consider when mmos started(for me that was EQ launch sneaking up on 2 decades ago) not everyone could type 1000 words a minute trying to coordinate raids (50 people )etc spelling every word sucked with the hunt and peck types. You also have to consider early text messaging. (seriously how many times do I have to press this button to get an "s") no smartphones so the "shorthand" became the norm. From there it just caught on. (just my opinion anyway. )

I'm fine with all of the abbreviations in ESO, except 3:

    COA and COH

    and

    Ales

COA and COH look far too much alike. City of Ash and Crypt of Hearts. Oh, maybe I should bring up the guild, Children of Hircine. Too similar. Get them all mixed up all the time.

Ales is either short for A). Alessia, or \B). Aleswell, two forts in Cyrodiil. I think Alessia needs a new shorthand name.

Once you get into any field with a lot of specialized terminology youll see abbreviations and acronyms. It just saves time.

Shorthand is an ancient concept. That's why I can't take this thread or the OP seriously.
People were using shorthand while he was still *** his diapers so it's not an age thing or a lack of intelligence thing.

But it's only an acronym if you say it like a word. Like MADD, NATO, or FODMAP.
    Otherwise, it's called an initialism.

TLDR Take the time to learn about any aspect of a culture before complaining about it.

In honestly it is your age, but that's not the fault here. The youth are raised in a society of not giving a damn. The world is correct in calling American's uncultured due to our lack of bilingual or even multilingual skills. Hell why would they care about learning other languages when they're so intent on butchering their own native tongue?

I personally have no problem with this things.

But I have a problem with another thing. The usage of tank, dd and healer, coming from WoW. They specify jobs, that don't even exist in many other MMO, but are forced on players for playing in groups.

It's like restricting your own brain with an unnecessary not compatible system. You can clearly identify MMO players, using these categories over and over again. It's dumb.

You need shorthand notation. No one wants to spam throughout their guilds like
"Hello fellow gamers, it has come upon the time in which we shall do the daily dungeon veteran pledge along with our fellow brethren. Positions we're currently hiring for are (but not subject to): Tanking, Healing, and/or Damage Per-Second fellows. We appreciate your time here and we hope you consider taking upon this daily challenge with us."

Khajiit thinks that all messages on all platforms should be like this. Although this one would like a more Khajiit slant on this.

    Also...

Player A : "Wir suchen einen Tank und einen DD für Veteran Pilzgrotte"
    Player B : " What ? Can't you effing speak english ?"
    Player A : "vergiss es..."
(fighting over whether non-english languages should be used in zone or guild chat carries on)
(Player A still has no tank)

    OR :

Player A : "Nous recherchons un tank et un DPS pour la champignonnière vet"
    Player B : "baguette ?"
Player C : "I'm ready to go if you group me"
    Player A : "???"
(fighting over how french people never bother to learn english carries on in chat)
(Player A still has no tank, player C still has no group)

    OR :

Player A : "LF2M tank and DD vet FG"
Player B : +1 tank for FG here
    Player C : +1 DD for FG
30 seconds later group is ready to start fungal grotto.

TL/DR : abbreviations and codes are very useful in overcoming language barriers in an MMO.
