Why Staminia for a Sorcerer?

I keep seeing people say Stamina Sorcerer. I am still learning how ESO works and playing as a Magicka Sorcerer. So why are people putting everything into Stamina instead of magika? I guess since I am learning and want to cast magic I am just looking at the magic powers and putting everything into magika. So what are people using for Stamina and why? Please no short forms because I don't know what they mean and then I get lost. This is why I am asking because reading the treads with all the short forms, I don't have a clue or understand what they mean.

So what skills, perks and what not do people use in a stamina sorcerer build and why? I don't get it and want to understand why people do it and like it.

StamSorc uses magika abilities for utility and rely on weapon abilities for damage. StamSorc is a beast in terms of maxing out stats like max stamina and weapon damage because of their passive abilities and skills.

Typical skills you'd use for StamSorc would be: Bound Armaments, Hurricane, Critical Surge, Streak, combined with weapon skills from 2-hander, dual wield, or bow.

StamSorc is very fast on the battlefield and can put up a decent fight in group PVP play.

Thanks DinOwned, I never knew that. Only reason I would put all my stats into stamina is so I can run longer :P. So I wouldn't be using magika for attacking but rely on staffs and swords or what not instead of magic?

I have my magika to 5 or 7 right now. I was going to max it but I am finding even though I am putting more magika in I am not firing as much shots as I did when I was like 3 or 5. So after reading a lot of posts I am wondering if I should put the rest at my stats to Staminia so I can run longer, but wasn't sure what I would use to compliment for stamina use.

So I am level 6 or 7 now, can't remember lol what should I be looking at if I want to try putting my points into stamina right now. Right now, I have Crystal Fragments I, Summon Unstable Familiar IV, Overload II, Endless Fury I, Hurricane I and using a Maple Inferno Staff at the moment.

So how would I take advantage of Stamina? I don't know what to look for.

If you'd rather primarily use skills from the sorcerer skill trees along with destruction and/or restoration staff then put all your points into magicka with a sprinkle of points into stamina at the beginning. Once you reach max level you can respec and put all your points into magicka.

If you want to primarily use weapons like 2-hander, dual wield, or bow then put all your points into stamina with a sprinkle of points into magicka. Again, once you reach max level you can respec and put all your points into stamina. Maybe do a 3 to 1 ratio with 3 points into your primary stat pool and 1 point into the other.

Early on I'd recommend putting one skill from each skill tree (Dark Magic, Daedric Summoning, Storm Calling) on to your bar so you can level up those skill trees to 50 right away.

What route you go might be determined on the race you chose at the beginning and what you think you'd have most fun with at end game / PVP. Best magicka races might be Altmer, Breton, Dunmer, best stamina races might be Redgaurd, Imperial, Orc, Khajiit.

Forgive me if I'm sharing information that you are already aware of, but given the original post, I think it might be helpful to distinguish between stamina builds versus magicka. Magicka Sorcs don't use stamina skills, and the reverse is typically true as well. The main exceptions to this (and is generally true for all stam vs. magicka builds, regardless of class) are buffs and utility. Something like Surge, which costs magicka, is utilized by stam sorcs for the Major Brutality and heal components. Similarly, many stam sorcs use Streak (Bolt Escape) as a means of CC and mobility in pvp, but it's important to note that this is used almost entirely for utility, as the skill itself it not scaling with stamina or weapon damage.

The result is two entirely different builds, one being based almost entirely around stamina, skills that boost stamina-users (i.e. Bound Armaments), stam-based heals (i.e. Vigor), and weapon skills. The weapons used by a stam Sorc are those that are stam-centric, in other words: 2H, Bow, Dual Wield, and sometimes Board&Sword (which is pretty much exclusive to pvp, except for some solo and leveling builds).

The other build is based almost entirely around magicka, skills that boost magicka-users (i.e. Bound Aegis), magicka-based heals (i.e. Regeneration, Healing Ward), and weapon skills. The weapons used by a magicka Sorc are magicka-centric, in other words: Destro, Resto. Dual Wield is utilized by magicka sorcs (and many other magicka classes) because of the Twin Blade & Blunt passive in the Dual Wield line, which boosts overall damage by 5% if two swords are equipped.

So, generally speaking, as a magicka Sorc you find little to no use in using skills/morphs/passives that boost stamina and weapon damage. Likewise, as a stamina Sorc you find little to no use in using those that boost magicka and spell damage. The main exceptions are those that offer some form of utility or buffs.

@Davor Please don't let them confuse you, you got confused by what you wrote on the forums.
Please decide if you want to be a Magicka Sorcerer caster or a Warrior like Sorcerer. Put everything into Magicka OR everything into Stamina. A middle way will not get you anywhere.

Since you seem to use magicka abilities and staves, you should go with the magicka path.

You have 8 character slots by default, you can always create a second Sorcerer who is primarily stamina, I have both. Breton magicka with familiar and twilight matriarch, and Khajiit stamina with clannfear and twilight tormentor; they play differently and are fun in their own ways.

Incorrect.... Stam sorcs are only lackluster because of the DB patches.

We used to be better, and Fengrush hella voices that.

Well before db we had a direct surge which scaled with damage but didn't work with DoTs. Now we have better passive support and surge essentially only works with DoTs. So it's more that surge got nerfed.

No I didn't know this probably since I didn't unlock them yet and get to use them. I am so glad you shard this information greatly appreciated.

Also to all the others, thank you very much for all your help and explanations. Because of all these comments I am having such a blast playing now. I started a new game (still kept my other character) and knowing what I know now from here and my other thread I am having the best playing time in ESO now. You all have been a great and valuable help.

I see being such a low level right now, I didn't unlock many perks yet, so that is why I am using lots of magika now instead of stamina perks. Only thing I am using that needs stamina besides running is Hurricane. At least now I know what to keep my eye out for now.

You obviously haven't been watching his latest streams where he says he is excited with the DB changes, how it's a step in the right direction, and how it affects his sorc. he loves his hurricane. Loves reverse slice . Loves his two hander and bow. Everything I said is true. He s doing crazy damage, has great mobility, and he's having a lot of fun playing it with his teammates. Whether t used to be better or not that's not my point. My point is Stam sorc is very viable and he demonstrates its power under DB.

for pvp...i dunno about 2h in pve with how beastly dw is now

StamSorc for weapon damage only and MagSorc for Class/staff damage.
Very few passives and active abilities of a Sorc support stamina.

So, with this they are able to do some insane builds that are challenging and unique to other classes.

Hence, that's why the use stamina instead of magicka for a sorcerer.

Something else that doesn't seem to have been (clearly) explained is how your damage "scales", or rather how you improve the damage your abilities do. Abilities that cost magicka to use do more damage the more magicka you have, and the more spell damage you have. Abilities that cost stamina do more damage based on how much stamina and weapon damage you have. For that reason, it is best to pick one resource type (stamina or magicka), and put all your points into that, and then use the abilities that consume that particular resource. If you try to split your resource attribute points into both stamina and magicka, and then try to use both types of abilities, you will forever do mediocre damage since neither resource will be maxed.

Another reason why picking only one resource is best, is because of passives from the armour types. Light armour, for example, will improve your magicka recovery and reduce the cost of your spells that cost magicka to use (among other benefits). This will allow you to cast more spells before your magicka runs out. Medium armour has passives that benefit a character that uses stamina based abilities, and helps them with sustain (among other things). Some of these benefits increase for each piece of that particular armour weight that you wear, so its beneficial to use the weight of armour that supports your resource choice.

**There is a passive ability in the Undaunted skill line that makes it a good idea to wear 5 pieces of one weight, and then one each of the other 2, but you will not have access to this skill line until like level 46 or so. Until then, it's a good idea to wear a 5-1-1 setup as you level so that you can level all the armour weight skill lines.**

Lastly, there are many armour sets in the game that can be crafted (you can make them yourself or have others make them for you). These sets will have passive benefits. Some sets increase your spell damage, some increase your weapon damage, some increase your max magicka or stamina, etc. Again, it is beneficial to have only magicka based abilities or stamina based abilities so that you can pick sets that will benefit that particular resource.

I am sure there are plenty of crafting guides out there that can help you should you decide to craft your own armour, but I will give you a few basic tips here. First, to be able to craft these sets, you have to have a certain number of traits researched for each individual armour piece you want to make. For example, say one set requires you to have 3 traits researched in order to make it. Say you want to make a light armour helm in that set. You will have to have 3 traits researched for light helms in order to make that one piece. Say you then want to make that same set helm, but in heavy armour. You will have to have 3 traits researched for heavy armour helms in order to make it.

If you want to make your own set armour, then it is in your best interest to start researching traits right away, as some can take up to 30 days to complete the research on. To research a trait, use armour pieces that you get as drops, that have traits on them. Go to the proper crafting station for that armour weight and select "research". You will see a list of traits, and it will show you which traits you have available for research. Click the trait you have available and it will give you a list of items in your inventory or bank that have that trait. Select an item and select "research". You will then see a counter that will tell you how long it will take to complete the research for that item. **Please note, the item you research will be destroyed in this process.**

There are 3 armour weights in the game, and 3 armour crafting skill lines - light (Clothier), Medium (also Clothier), and heavy (Blacksmithing). You will have to level each of these skill lines individually. To do so, you can "deconstruct" armour pieces that you pick up along the way via drops from monsters. My advice is to deconstruct anything you don't need for your character, or that you don't need for research. You can also make armour pieces to gain XP in those skill ines. As you level them up, you will open up passives in those skill lines that will allow you to make higher level gear, improve the gear, etc.

This is not an all encompassing guide as to how everything works, but this should give you a basic understanding. For build ideas, I suggest you go to Tamriel Foundry to see builds that others have posted. They usually include what skills to use and what armour sets, but be mindful that these guides are usually for maxed out, end game characters. Still, they can give you a good idea of what to shoot for.

My stam sorc has syvarras scales, briarheart, skoria sets and has great dots proccing all the time from hurricane, they all proc like crazy from ww bleed attacks too

You got no gap closer as s sorc going straight dual wield. One build you can consider if you like dual wield is two hander/dual wield.

Even without Maelstrom weapons, stamina sorcerers can pull 35k+ with DW/Bow.
