ooh! Hey @Abeille what if the summon animation had the gryphon come down from the sky, hover slightly above the ground, flapping. When you hop on, the gryphon gets weighed down and flutters and rears like it's annoyed. When you get off it just jumps and flies away gleefully.

I demand a diamond pony. I don't mean a sculpture, or a horse with a diamond patterned coat or anything. I mean a living horse that actually happens to be made of diamonds.

@Faulgor , I like your ideas but I would really prefer the same old eagle Gryphon, even if only because the Altmer like eagle motifs very much xD

If the creators of the content are the creators of the franchise, I see no problem. Tolkien's lore for instance, whatever he created and wanted to be lore in the Middle-Earth universe will be so, as Lucas in Star Wars and Martin in A Song of Ice and Fire. As long it comes from the original creators its lore correct, end of matter.

I'm sure Todd has the final say but I know that Emil Pagliaro plays a part...I think ESO's loremaster has to consult with him on lore based ideas. He's the one who wrote Skyrims theme in the dragon language which is pretty impressive when you think about it as it makes sense in both dragon & english, rhymes and fits the music nicely.

i play the game because i like the game play and costumes yeah some look cool mounts yeah some look cool even if there are lore breaking they still look good add more customization for your account if you was to stop liking a game over a mount then im sorry but thats just sad i didnt get my mounts and costumes because of the lore i for them because like the looks of them the new mounts look cool as hell im guessing the people crying about this lore based stuff are the people who can get it?yea it does cost alot i get that but i would understand more with like questing or something because thats all stories but a damn mount come on now.....

Ok looking back a normal sheep for a mount would be to lore breaking. What about a fire breathing soul shriven sheepdog half sheep half shriven dog that has cold fire breath with wings.

I'm just excited at the idea that Gryphons exist in the TES world @Tommy1979AtWar ! I have always thought they were regal and majestic creatures. To me they would be a perfect mount for Altmer.

I really like @Abeille 's suggestion of Gryphons being able to fly, but they are bound to the ground with a rider. (ooh! Their jump animation could include an unproductive wing flap!) I also really like the idea of a wingless Gryphon.

The concepts @Faulgor drew are great and I completely agree the Gryphons would need a TES twist. This one is my favorite:

But I must say, the image I took of a Griffin and just cut the wings off feels very "elder scrolls-y" to me. I would be very happy with this being the TES Gryphon.

Personally I'd love to see a mixture of the two. Have one gender of Gryphons have wings, then have the other one grounded. I could come up with justification for either gender.

• Females fly because they lay eggs (Gryphons have eggs in my mind) and have to carry those eggs to the mountain tops where they have their nests. The males are "ground troops" that protect the mountain and their younglings from predators. The males will kill wildlife, caw to call the females, who will come and get the prey to take it to their chicks.

• Males fly because they are the hunters and protect their territory from the sky. Females are on the ground and stay with the eggs in the dens they build in low lying caves. They don't need to fly because they don't hunt and they don't need to cover a lot of ground in a short period of time. The male deliver the meals to the females and they do the whole vomiting thing to feed the young.

I think both of these will work and having one both versions would be kind of unique... I think .

Yeah, I'd be entirely content with that. I think the most important thing will be the design of the head or, for lack of a better word, face. The Gryphon in your image has a very large and heavy beak, for example, which reminds me of the Phillipine Eagle:



The second most important feature would probably be the colour of the plumage, but ZOS already has a good track record of designing different "flavours" of the same mount, and there are lots of options that would make a TES Gryphon stand out from more "mundane" ones (which are just brown or white-headed like the bald eagle most of the time).

Why make a hypothetical altmer mount a magical conglomeration creature? There are already rideable birds.Think Phorusrhacids, a.k.a. "Terror Birds".

Maybe a giant, rideable squirrel for the wood elves.

Another idea came to mind. As ridiculous as it may sound to mages someone thought it would be a good idea to make a spell that make you travel like a frog would by increasing you ability to jump resulting in looking like a person on two legs jumping like a frog in a very fast motion. The aftermath however lets hope you have a strong stomach.

Yup it was inspired by no other than the mage in the Morrowind game that made insane acrobatic scrolls but this only a minor form so you won't die.

Young dragons don't exist in the Elder Scrolls @Clerics1985 . They manifested as they appear in Skyrim.

Now a dragon-like mount might be cool...
