Non-Lorebreaking Mounts for the future?

I would LOVE to see a goat or a ram mount. So cool!

Besides that, a yak, ox, cow, bison, etc. Pretty much any other hoofed mounts would be awesome.

@Lawrence_Schick also doesn't visit the forums, having posted a grand total of twice, so don't get your hopes up.

(I maintain that is because he is terrified of me. He knows I will find a way to glue him to a chair and make him answer everything from 'how many children does High King Emeric have' to 'what is Clivia Tharn's favorite flavor toothpaste' if he shows his face, thus he stays hidden.)

And I'm with @Gidorick , I would also like to see more background on the more exotic mounts. I still don't care for the Frost Mare or the Nightmare Courser for just that reason. They feel tacked on. Maybe if we'd help carve that horse out of ice, or had to steal that Nightmare Courser to escape the Deadlands, I'd feel differently, but as it is, there is no quest associated with them, no pre-existing lore for them to reference, and they have no in-game presence except for the people who bought them. If they all vanished one day, no one would even notice. I want stuff that's integrated in the world in some way. The good news is that they seem to be getting better about that.

This is all I really want. I tend to ignore what others are doing or riding around on in this game unless Im RPing with others. But I absolutely hate the "heres a cool mount, we're too lazy to give it some lore and history sooooo: Its got mysterious origins" crap they pull with the mounts. Its lazy, shoddy and arrogant of them to do this. I get that its an MMO, but for all that is holy dont ignore the lore so you can insert your cash grabs. Tell us why theres a Frost Mare or a Nightmare Courser running around. Tell us why the Dromathra senches are deciding to pair up with what would otherwise be their enemies.

I bought that one! I had crowns to spend before the console transfer and the dapple grey was on sale. I have a soft spot for dapple grey horses anyway.

I wouldn't mind having the Oblivion unicorn so long as it doesn't attack me as soon as I go into combat mode or require me to be attractive. The one I had in Oblivion ran off when i became ugly for Peryite (?) and had to be chased down after. Then it attacked everyone in Cheydinhall and got killed by the guard. It was kind of a bother.

@Gidorick That's an amazing idea! I also really dig the mounts especially Elk, Saber, and Wewa! I do have a question. If their are mount racial bonuses, would they be so strong that it would have an impact in a person's racial choice just as much as the racial bonuses do today or would they be less so?

Oooh your idea gave me one lol. A mount/rider skill line! With morphs and all. Not to take away from the racial idea of yours but maybe in addition to? Like everyone can ride their mount X% faster but only an Altmer on an Elk can ride X% + Y% faster or something like that.

Kudos Gidorick! ZOS does listen, they just aren't going to do things on a whim overnight. Also thanks for not being a you know what, and actually bringing something creative and constructive to the discussion.

I can't blame the Unicorn. I would run away and go on a murderous rampage too if my companion started working for the objectively worst Daedric Prince ever. I mean, Peryite? Really? Disgusting.

No problem @Nirnrotten ! I love bringing ideas to ZOS. My thought was if a player rides their specific races mount they would get

-10% Speed Bonus
-20% Stamina Bonus

It's enough to not matter day to day but enough to have a player whip out their specific races Mount from time to time.

I think it would be more along the lines that players ride a specific amount for the bonuses then they play a specific race for them.

I prefer realistic looking mounts over supernatural looking ones - I didn't buy any of the nightmare/ice/zombie mounts, that just doesn't interest me. By realistic looking, I don't mean just horses, I mean animals that exist in lore and are of an appropriate size to be ridden (I have a few senche mounts and a guar, and although I haven't bought any I also like the bears and camels - although the camels walk wrong, and the horses have sickle-hocks) - but I prefer them natural looking rather than supernatural looking, it fits in the world better IMO.

@Gidorick - although I like a lot of your ideas, ZOS cannot call a horse a "Jutland" as that is an IRL reference to an area of Denmark where the IRL Jutland horse breed originates, so that name would break lore quite badly - I'd suggest calling it a "Colovian Cob" or something like that instead.

As many have said before me, the Dro-m'Athra lore is quite extensive and has incredible history. So the new Senche mount is actually not "lore-breaking".

Thanks, @ZOS_JessicaFolsom. While you guys are talking to us about mount stuff, could you tell us what's up with the "trip over a pebble" bug? Is it that you guys have been concentrating more major bugs and have not gotten to this yet, or is it a really hard one to figure out/fix?

I'm gonna make this real simple for everyone struggling with the whole "lore-breaking" thing:

THIS IS THE 2ND ERA! BEFORE ALL OF THE OTHER SCROLLS GAMES. ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN THIS GAME MAKES WHATEVER IT IS "LORE-FRIENDLY IN: ARENA, DAGGERFALL, MORROWIND, OBLIVION AND SKYRIM... OH AND REDGUARD

Good grief... You guys do understand that this game takes place before all the other games in the series... right? You get that, don't you? ZoS could make magical unicorn kittens and there isn't a thing we could say against it since they could just say they went extinct by the time Morrowind came around...

Edit: As usual @Gidorick posts some fantastic ideas! Question though, isn't it called a Silt Strider? Not Silt Runner... I might be wrong but for some reason I remember them being called Silt Striders.

Hey ZoS, please consider mount summon animations for existing mounts like the Nightmare Courser (my fav), Ice horse and any other special mounts! That would be very awesome!

Also, if we could explode into tiny pixels upon logging out, that'd be cool too! lol

I agree with adding animations for existing mounts. For non-magical mounts, making them run to you from a point behind your camera would be nice. Also ZOS, PLEASE add swimming animations so we can stay mounted when we cross a river or something. We can be slowed down, I don't care, I just don't want to keep being dismounted.

For your second suggestion, they would have to change one of M'aiq lines then :P
I imagine he would be horrified by it instead of just curious about the market of "invisibility potions".

I can agree with this to some extent. There was another mmo that I played that actually made the player earn some special things like this, even if it required a particular quest unlock. Arvak while not overly difficult to acquire at least felt like you 'earned' him.

I also understand the desire of players to not want to see hordes of strange magical creatures being ridden around town. At the same time, who wouldn't want to ride a silt strider through the ashlands and stonefalls? Why not a guar through shadowfen or deshaan? A camel in Alikir, Bangkorai, Craglorn, Hew's Bane? etc. I do think in many ways it is self regulating, and to some extent I can accept that players are not regular folks, its just hard to believe that when we make up most of the populace. :P

That Echatere looks like a giant Rabbit, BTW the only reason I say the Dro-mathra Senche is Unlorefriendly is because of this and that is because it is an evil khajiit spirit, and no evil spirit would let you ride them and order them around.
