Can I earn XP and follow the main story after all the Expansions?

Erpo

Hello guys,

Sorry if this is not the correct place to start this topic but I want to know something that bugs me ever since I purchased the first expansion.

Basically I have all the current expansions but I tend to be an alt guy. I don't stick with one character for too long yet now I want to really. Now I have this feeling that because all the expansions are synched to level if I go there and complete them I will be too high of a level to go back to the first zones and experience the main story line or side quests I have on the map.
Can you let me know if this is the case? I searched but I wasn't able to find any such information for this. If for example I head to check the new Thief's guild or Orsinium and get too high level can I go back to say... second zone of DC and continue with the main story where I left off and the side quests? Will I miss any important plot points if I go directly to the expansion and should stick with main story for now?

Thanks

Basically, everything that is not Wrothgar, Thieves Guild and Cyrodiil will be a fixed level. The aforementioned scale you to that zones level.

In regards to earning xp outside of the zones I listed I believe from what I remember you must be within five levels of that questing area to earn xp. I could be wrong, but I've never had that issue since I am usually within the level of that area.

Though I have a pvp baby that is VR9 that hasn't even finished Grahtwood lol. I'm AD btw. So she'll be running into that problem soon.

I am aware of that but what I meant was if I go there in the first place right now while I am level 17 or something I will most probably come out to be level 20 something out of there .. so when I go back to the first DC zones can I continue the main quests and side quests at all or will they be gone.. this is what I am asking.
As well as will I miss any important plot points in the new expansions that are somehow linked to the first few zones.

You'll be higher than 3 levels, You can go back and do the quests but if your higher than 5 levels you won't get any exp for doing them.

    PS4 EU DC

    Current CP : 756+

I have every character level 50, both a magicka and stamina version.

RIP my effort to get 5x v16 characters...

I see.. ok well as long as I will be able to do the Main story chain I will figure out how to cope with my frustration unable to view all the content there ;( I will think of something or just continue with main story chain for the moment thanks :)

Oh yes, you will always regardless of your level be able to complete quests you either have in your journal or have not gotten/completed.

You won't "lose" quests, or access to the main quest line, but you will risk overlevelling - so that the quests become trivial and you won't gain any XP from them. Doesn't mean that it's not worthwhile completing the main quest though.

I don't believe that there are any aspects of the current DLC that are linked to the main quest line. However, there are hints that future DLC build on themes from the main quest (I'm trying to avoid spoilers!).

But I don't understand why you'd want to complete Wrothgar quests (say) instead of the main quest. I admit that my view is coloured, because there were no DLC when I went through the main quest line, but I see the DLC as stuff to do when you've finished everything else!

do the main story arc so you can get the skill points associated with them. Now, later, whenever...they will come in handy

Alright I will continue with the main story line and will continue with ... I don't know the proper order - Imperial City, Orsinium, Thief's guild? or at that point it doesn't matter how you go with the order.

I would strongly suggest doing the level 1-45 area first....always.
Then you can mix and match but, yes you will miss a lot of important story plots.

The same applies to "silver and gold" but you don't have to do those prior to DLC. The story plot applies but assuming VR levels will be removed in 3 months, I think its safe not to worry too much on silver and gold zones.

I will have to search some more information on how to level up but as far as I see Bangkorai is the last zone of the DC so once I do that I will most probably go through the expansions. If you guys have any guides that you can share on which zones to go to after and so forth please share. Thank you so much!

Unless something changed, you still get exp for quests more than five levels below. But, the quest exp will be a lot lower than if you were doing quests meant for your current level. You will not get exp for killing mobs more than five levels below you though.

This is correct. Quests will always give the same amount of XP regardless of how much you level above them. It's only mobs that stop giving XP after 5 levels.

As far as I understand, DLCs are made for people who've already completed all base/previous game content so they still have reasons to play - to discover something new. That's why I'm not getting any DLC before I have any base content left to do in this game :)

Main quest will always scale to your level. And each part of main quest requires you to be certain level to trigger and continue it. And in the end, you will be able to trigger final part of the quest only when you are Level 50. Then you'll have a choice between zones of two other alliances. And you will experience all their quests as if you were native character there - this is great in my opinion

There is no specific order for all the side quests (some of them just have few parts, so you need to start and complete one to unlock next part) - once my 6 level character traveled to activate Mundus stone in highest zone for my alliance, and I actually could start any side quest there (...if I wasn't smashed like a bug in process :D ). But each alliance also has their own main storyline, and you need to complete one zone to continue this storyline in next zone. You won't have a choice if you want to complete main story for every alliance - just go step by step from the lowest zone to the highest zone.
