✭✭✭✭✭The irony here is that, before IC, PvP had the kind of token system that PvE'ers would salivate over.
There was a (small) chance at getting set pieces from the Worthy mails, but most people simply bought their pieces from the various vendors at base camp. You get the exact pieces you want, and there was a definite goal that you could work towards. Want a max-level purple Ravager ring? Just earn a quarter million AP. No RNG to screw you over. And most importantly, this was fair.
Now, if you earn a quarter million AP, you might or might not get the piece you want. You'll most likely end up with junk that is completely useless to you.
But this token system was effectively killed and replaced by a RNG torture chamber because @Wrobel doesn't like the idea of people who have banked a ton of AP getting all the new gear sets on day one. Okay, I can see why someone might be concerned about it (though I don't think it's a very good justification), but surely there must be a way to address that without resorting to draconian "solutions" like caps or tossing out a perfectly good token system for this RNG nonsense.
How about this for a simple solution?- Introduce a new type of AP. Let's call it "Purple AP". The existing AP will be "Green AP".
- All the AP that you earn will be "Purple AP".
- Vendors at the alliance base will sell all the new set items for "Purple AP".
- Vendors at the alliance base will sell all the old set items for either "Purple AP" or "Green AP". All other items--siege, motifs, etc.--can be bought for either Purple or Green.
- When a new DLC is launched, all your unspent "Purple AP" will be converted to "Green AP". The vendors will be updated as well, so that the new upcoming season's sets will be buyable with Purple, and the previous season's sets, which used to be Purple-only, can be bought with either Purple or Green.
There, we preserve the token system, we make it so that players start at the same place when it comes to getting the new season's gear, and all the AP that you had earned and saved up is still valuable for everything else, including the previous season's stuff.

I have an issue with this reasoning. The PvP sets are BoE and thus tradeable. So people who have hoarded a bunch of gold are able to get the full set the first day but those who've earned tons of AP get essentially nothing??
