Anyone remember old school ESO?

Any long-time players remember any cool or very different stuff from Beta or early ESO? Or just what it was like?
Reading some of the recent complaints just reminded me of how different the game used to be.

I remember when vet levels were so slow, you'd do a delve and turn in two quests and the bar didn't move.

I also remember when levels 1-20 were hard. Took me 10 tries to get past Doshia. And I almost quit over the Lyris Doppleganger in the Halls of Torment.

    Aye. I remember those days well. And now Doshia is a push over, as is the Lyris Doppleganger.

    Oh yeah... i remember...
    Im playing since beta and only played one character since launch.

    Just a few week ago i began playing a new char (Templar). In my memories Doshia was the hardest enemy i have ever fought.
    But now it only took me 3 or 4 strikes to kill her.

    Btw.: it took me about 30 tries to kill Doshia shortly after launch with my Nightblade :neutral:

    I remember playing the beta and it having tons of bugs.

    Not much has changed since then.

    The Zone 1 quests have changed somewhat. For example, in Davon's Watch, there was a lot more to the battle for the city, it's been streamlined. The Wailing Prison used to be much less than it is now. The first city in Grahtwood had no walls so you could ride from the Wayshrine all the way through town and out again and never get off your horse.

    And, Molag Bal, he used to be something to be feared. It was a tough fight. Now, you just have to show up.

    Most of the changes are for the better, some are questionable.
    Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    I always made sure I beat them at level 20, none of this skulking off to go level up doing easier quests

    First FG zone had a boss in it's last quest that was near impossible to solo.

    Yup, and you can still find the old "How do I win this" threads about Doshia and Lyris Doppleganger here on the forums, as well as how-to and bragging videos on YouTube...

    Check out the old ability icons and the truly mixed/hybrid bar. You can also see the old feast orb animations and how much they used to heal a harvester. Put that healing back in today for a new DLC and watch the forums go nuts.

    I also recall if you were EP that people were looking to group to take on Balreth.

    I remember when you'd get halfway through the first zone (e.g. the battlefield with the ghosts in glenumbra) and be faced with 3 mobs at once instead of one at a time. That was a rude awakening

    I remember Doshia and Lyris Doppelganger all too well. I had to come back much later to finish the Doppelganger on my first character. And I stoll hate the Glenumbra Moors quests. Not as bad as it used to be but just something about those quests areally irritating to me.

    Thanks to early TESO, Doshia probably still has the biggest kill-count in this game.

    .. I still fear Harvesters thanks to her, even though that they're no longer as powerful as they once were..

    Remember the "bot killer" messages? "I am GM such-and-such, the bot killer! Report all bots and they will be exterminated." They did a great job getting rid of that crap in the early days.

    My other favorite memory of the early days was when PvP was ruled by people using 1H + Shield with shield bash enchants on jewelery. You could hit someone with invasion and then just bash them to death, and there was nothing they could do about it. Oh, the lols.

    Yeah but that feeling of satisfaction we'd get when we DID kill her though.

    Or in the Beta, for AD, the Veil Inheritance quest where you infiltrate the island off of skywatch and have to kill the 3 leaders. Darn that was stupid hard. Doshia was nothing in comparison. Solo'd those three by aggroing them into corridors and into the pillar room where I could use that to break em up.

    Same with the old world Boss locations, they used to be surrounded by elite creatures (all monsters in the area had 2/3 diamonds etc...) - making it stupid hard.

    I remember back when mudcrabs were actually something to be feared.

    Back then the world was a VERY dangerous place, and for my money a whole lot more rewarding.

    I remember the whining. I remember the "I can't beat Doshia!!" "This game is too hard!!!" posts.

    One thread in particular was started by someone who was killed by Doshia. "I can't beat Doshia?!! How do you do it?!!" Myself and a few others offered advice. But when the poster responded, did they thank us? No. They said, "The game is too hard!!" (or words to that effect.)

    Then Zenimax nerfed Doshia, making her one of the easiest bosses in the game. Sigh.

    Shortly after that, I left. I came back for things like vWGT, but now I'm just waiting for them to nerf that, too.

    -when attribute numbers were only 4 numbers.
    -when you put all attribute points into health.
    -when delves were all the same loop.
    -when hybrids were a thing.
    -when Eagles Strand had a wall around it and was its own cell.
    -when Haven didn't have a wall around it and wasn't its own cell.
    -when the mournhold wayshrine was outside the city.
    -when shield bashing was hysterical and OP.
    -when extended chains could pull people off of keep walls.
    -when DK's were scary.
    -when recovery drink was worthless.
    -when vampire bats were to be feared and fled from at all costs.
    -when werewolves only had 2 skills.
    -when werewolf gave you stamina regen just for being one.
    -when impulse was good.
    -when critical surge didn't have a restriction and healed on all crits period.
    -when blind was a thing.
    -when caltrops, vigor, and magicka detonation didn't exist.
    -when nirnhoned didn't exist.
    -when feeding your horse apples was a thing.
    -when the best horse in the game was light brown and cost 40k gold.
    -when 40k was a lot of gold.
    -when motifs came in a single book.
    -when style material came in a single piece.
    -when people would gather in public for huge naked dance parties to signal the end of beta/alpha.
    -when enchanting took even longer to level.
    -when looting containers in town for provisioning mats was not a crime.
    -when endgame armor was called "blueberry"
    -when grinding anomalies in craglorn was a thing.
    -when spiders didn't drop down from ceilings and scare the crap out of you.
    -when nights silence and vampire stacked.
    -when forward camps were a thing.
    -when spies placing horrible forward camps was a thing.
    -when vamp and WW bites could cost 50k-100k.
    -when griefers would kill the vamp and WW spawns.
    -when hundreds of people would gather in the final alliance zone at the vamp and WW spawns.
    -when it was cheaper to craft a new set of armor rather then repair it.
    -when you started on the beginner island.
    -etc.

    @Wing it's funny to look back ...I still own 2 forward camps from back then. ^^
    • When wasps in Craglorn was capable of wiping groups of players.
    • When archers where primary targets in Craglorn, they hit very hard.
    • When you could obtain mercenary scroll npc's in Cyrodiil.
    • When the best gear was trial gear, with a helmet that looked like a babys head on a plate.
    • When tanks used to run in lightarmor.
    • When Praxin Douare boss in veteran Spindleclutch was noob friendly :trollface: ?? anyone remembers that? <3<3
    • When you had to keep 5 daedroths alive, for veteran Banished Cells endboss achievement.
    • When the first boss in normal Banished Cells was considerate one of the hardest bosses in the game, for the assigned levels.
    • When imperial motif was blue, and all motifs were farmable on starter islands.
    • When Oats and Tomatoes where needed for purple recipes, and where farmable everywhere. But Zenimax suddently stopped letting us farm them, so we would rely on hirelings to get them, and their prices skyrocketed ..however you could feed all your horses everyday with Oats.
    • When Argonians were a viable dps race.
    • When 3 Warlock items were enough to get the 5th item bonus we have today.
    • When Valkyn Skoria set didn't have a cooldown? :trollface:
