Where are the Holiday Events? Do you desire to see them in ESO?

I read all of the "Negative post" about Holiday events and I have to ask WHY?...

What is happening to MMO players these days? I mean what is wrong with OPTIONS?
If they would add Holiday events it is not like you MUST participate in them.... MMO's are about having fun and having options and choices to spend time doing and relax and enjoy doing things outside of RL.

There are so many people on these forums that want to stifle any form of options to the rest of the player base. Be it Text Chat, Holiday Events, Trade system [Auction House] .

What happened to there being OPTIONS?

I for one LOVE holiday events in MMO's it makes the game seem more "Alive" and also shows the community that the Devs actually WANT to do things for the players.

I guess I am just too old.

Anyone here remember Asherons Call? We actually had a Holiday festival where the Developers actually came into the game as an NPC and would either hand out candy/ food that gave buffs or actually KILLED US! We tried to kill him I think one server actually managed to do so.

    Things like that are AWESOME!

Seems there will now be monthly crown store items ...it's a step

I'm ok with that. If someone wants to celebrate the Witch's Festival, the Crown store has that covered. Sounds like a win/win to me.

I want to celebrate the Witches Festival... on Frostfall the 13th. Too bad the items won't be released until Frostfall the 22nd.

Coming from LOTRO, they have seasonal festivals that are somewhat close to each other every year. I'm not an expert into Tolkien's mythos, so I'm not 100% sure if they're based on what was mentioned in Tolkien's books or if Turbine pulled them out of their...posterior (My guess is the latter).

So. yeah. Not surprised if its not accurate here. Baby steps, I suppose.

That is exactly what the yes options states... make them lore friendly. No where in my post have I advocated for real life holidays in the game. If you follow some of the above posts and see some of the examples of holidays that can be put into events in the game you will see that they would be based on lore.

Having only Crown Store costumes to celebrate a holiday is not much of a "win/win". For many that love the feel of the holiday events in their favorite MMOs it is more of a slap in the face.

It's also a slap in the face to those who care about Lore. The Pumpkin is obviously Halloweeny. The Scarecrow I understand... I mean, some of them are already spooky, but a pumpkin? That's just stupid.

True, but as stated previously this is an MMO and sometimes lore has to give a bit to offer a rounded experience for those who like to play MMOs and not just those who treat this like a single player RPG.

In MMOs holiday events are a staple and many like them.

I would be very excited if they could do Tamriel holidays and actually manage to coordinate the Store with the Tamriel Calendar.

But... no, they cannot do that because no matter what ZOS seems to do, they never quite get it right. They never fill the gas tank all the way to full in the car. When they buy something, they are a dollar short. If they need 10 of something, they have only 9. It is like there is no one there that really steps back and takes in the bigger picture.

    ... and they don't care.

Yeah, who am I kidding, I know nothing of Elder Scrolls Lore... /S

It's important to be able to tell game play apart from lore. 100+ Skeletons is obviously a game play feature, just like 100+ Nightmare Coursers/Frost Mare/ Soul-Shriven Horse. It's nothing more than an over-representation of what's supposed to be, just like the the terrain and the number of NPCs are an under-representation. While Windhelm contains around X NPCs in ESO, that doesn't mean that Windhelm's population is around Xin lore. It's the same principle, even though we see 100 people running around with the same stuff, that doesn't mean that there are 100 people running around with the same stuff.
Kireth Vanos says, “Common so-called ‘Dwarven Ore’ is, in fact, given that name because of its resemblance to the metal forged by the long-lost Dwemer. As a metallurgist I can tell you that while Dwarven Ore is a tough substance indeed, it’s not nearly as durable as actual metal harvested from actual Dwemer devices. That’s why forging in the Dwemer style requires actual Dwemer metal as material.”
    Anything else?

I think the sooner you lore buffs and hardcore immersion peeps accept the fact that this is going to happen the less upset and angry you will be.

I think with an MMO you have to remember there is a fine balancing act between lore and entertaining the masses. The cost to maintain an MMO is much greater than a single player RPG. With a greater cost you need to draw in more players to support the game. I am not saying the lore needs to be abandoned, just needs to bend a bit to fit in enough play-style and entertainment to keep the masses playing and supporting a MMO.

I do want to see the lore oriented holidays in the game, but I also understand there needs to be room for them to attract a larger crowd for them and thus we might need a real life tie-in.

While I don't care personally... I'd like them to ADD to the lore of Tameriel with something that *feels* Elderscrollsy. Halloween events, christmas events, easter, thanks giving (or around here with my fellow natives known as don't trust *** day) just seems tacky and unimaginitive. And is frankly a lill immersion breaking.

I'd agree with this this. I would love to see NEW celebrations in ESO, just so long as they aren't trying to be an Elder Scrolls "Version" of an earth holiday.

I understand your point, but there is much about MMOs that are immersion breaking...
    • Opening up mail without going to a mailbox
    • Every time you open inventory, going into another screen that makes your character spin.
    • Opening the Crown Store
    • Every single load screen window
    • Thousands of "heroes" running around doing the same "hero" quests as you.

I am sure the list can go on.

It is an MMO and immersion is only a very small part of the experience.

more of an irritating necessity. It surely would have been preferable for ESO to have been one large area without loading screens but I think that's more a comment on the capability of the programmers and designers than it is on the immersion of the game. What breaks my immersion more than loading screens is the weird zoning logic ESO has.

I think immersion is an integral part of the experience. Without it, my interest weans. In fact, I have little interest in items that do little to support immersion. ZOS can release all the little trinkets they want but if they don't "fit" into Tamriel in an immersive way, they will never be purchased by me.

Adding costumes is not getting "something". It is ZOS trying to squeeze every drop of $$ from the player base. Adding some content to go with costumes and holiday items would be getting something
