Is it worth pvping from NZ, my latency is 250...

Either my reactions are snail like or the ping is just too high.

If I watch sypher and deltia's videos on YouTube, their pvp experience differs from mine a lot. I don't see every movement from an opponent and I get several skills in a flurry.

Anyone else like this and is there any way to improve PvP? Apart from moving to the US.

No I just think it's the distance in general due to server issues, I remember people were playing a game together two archers stood side by side, the archer in the us, her character would naturally shoot really fast, almost twice as fast as the guy on the other side of the world, and you can't do anything due to bad connection.

As for tips I hope someone will be able to help you out.

Please vote in the console text chat thread so ZoS can see how many people want text chat

I Play from Auckland/NZ & also Sydney/Aus & in NZ my ping is around 200 - 220 this is using my parents broadband, which they have not changed to optic cable yet & i use the wifi on it to connect as well. In sydney I get around 220 - 250 using the wifi available, still playable.

Even is you use the best available net in both countries, distance to server is always going to be a factor. There are programs that you can install to help but for me it made no impact on ping time.

I live like less than 500 miles from the NA server yet my ping is usually like 130-150, when on other games it's like 20-50.

Lol based on my experience in pvp so far I would be in the bottom 20%.

I would like to attribute it to lag but who knows.

Last night I was cloaking around a pillar and an opponent wrecking bladed me coming from the other side.

I don't always get the option to wrecking blade them when they're in front of me and close. This makes me think what I see and what skills are available to me are not synced.

Probably you're using WIFI. But you can connect a cable to your PC or console too.

I did* and it solved all my problems. PS4 is located in the bedroom, WIFI signal is rather low in that location.

*: I started with a cable, but la femme was not enthusiast for esthetic reasons. I replaced it by a powerline network. I'm happy and so is the woman.

Probably the profit will be lower for you, cause your main bottleneck is the distance. But I would try it out.

250ms ping is still playable, though you kind of have to be very good at predicting what would happen in a fight. That means hours and hours of research and practice to overcome the ping differential. What I can advise is to stay in stealth most of the time, as attacking from stealth allows you to dictate what battles you will fight. This is important as you really don't want to get into a fight when you are having a lagspike. The stun from attacking from stealth will somewhat balance the ping issue at the start of the fight. You generally want to kill your opponent before your ping kills you.

You can consider using a pingbooster to try to improve your connection. I recommend WTFast.

    It was worth trying. :)

And what about your internet-provider? Maybe you can order a faster upgrade?

They are at ZOS also setting up an Asia server. Don't know a release date. Maybe that could solve your lag issues as well.

That's pretty much spot on. The ping also makes a lot of CC night unbreakable, and bolt escape really unreliable (ported already dead a lot)

I'm in Dunedin/NZ and have no control over my internet provider (for now, it's frakkin' Spark). Moving off the wifi and using cable helped some, but 250 is the minimum I get and I can PVP well enough. You have to play smart. Use ranged as much as you can, and cloak or bolt as soon as they come in your direction. If you're a sucker for punishment, then by all means melee, but remember, by the time you see that wrecking blow wind up, and block, it's already hit you by the time the server receives the block and you get rekt. Like I said, play smart and you'll be fine.

What WTFast does is that it creates a VPN tunnel between your computer and ZOS's servers. It cannot make your packets travel any faster than what it already is traveling at. What the VPN does is that it optimises the routing of your packets, to ensure that your packets always take the shortest route between your computer and the servers. 200-250 ping is really the best you'll ever going to get when connecting from AUS to EU or NA. Your packets cannot travel faster than what the cables will actually physically allow.

Even though you may not get much of an improvement from the routing change, it at least offers some consistency in your pings, thereby reducing the number of lagspikes you'll get. I find that the stable connection really shines in larger fights or at peak hours, as then many people are competing for prime routing, and the software ensures that your routing will almost always (Assuming correct configuration) be optimal.

Just curious @jelliedsoup are you PC or console?

Up until IC dropped I hadn't done much PvP. I play on PC and the game ran great, well until I met my first few zergs that is. :(
Spent the money and upgraded my rig....and boom...no more lag for me. Now the only reason I get schooled in PvP is because I've made a bone-headed move...and not due to lag. ;)

Don't know what your playing on, but I thought my PC was doing fine until I went to Cyrodiil. I live in the states and have fast internet, but that only helps if your rig is up to the challenge.

I hope you get things sorted out!

Gold Coast mate, & I've had all your issues.

I'm now Lan wired to the modem port, which is ADSL2+ (sadly the fastest I can get at this time without moving to the Hilton Hotel).
The game is 100% better than when I was still on on wifi router here.
No ladies here to complain about the Lan cable lying across the floor lol, but the lag to the server (XBox EU) has become almost intolerable since IC dropped, regardless of where I am in the game.

I'm reliably informed that although my download speed is fine at about 16mbps, the upload speed which is limited to 0.8 mbps is what's killing me.
Two weeks I get an increase to 1.5 mbps upload by changing to Telstra, so I'll see if that helps.

If any of that info helps you my "across the ditch" friend.

I run 300-350ms, anything past that and it's not worth playing. Would love to be on 200-250.

It's also less reaction time to counter and more predicting what the enemy will do. Working out known rotations, what spells can be interrupted, what noises mean what damage is headed your way or what defense they have just dropped. Never play mmo with sound mainly due to musical instruments. When I started playing I was wondering why I was getting owned. Then they told me to play with sound, helps out a lot.
