Immersion vs Information

I think the answer is always OPTIONS.
I love immersion, and I like how little this game shows me. but then again, I also want to be good at what I'm doing, and for that I need some numbers so I can adjust my gameplay.

what I want is the OPTION to see all the information out there, and tweak my build and playstyle. Then when I have something working fine, I want to remove all the extra information - or keep it to a minimum - so I can enjoy the beautiful immersive and realistic gameplay.

    Information.

It's MMO. If you are a little bit old school MMO player, then you want be better than this random guy. Information will help you to become better, to test your build and DPS. Information helps you to pass hard and interesting encounters.

I'd agree if the poll was Immersion vs Information vs Choice. But it wasn't, so I went with Information. In an MMO I prefer knowledge over immersion so I can be better at what I'm doing.

So what happens when the information is inserted into the game world rather than the UI ?
What happens when there is no conflict between information and immersion ?

I cant answer the poll as there aren't enough choices.

You're asking for a lot of information, so if I were you I'd go with information.

Yep. Voice chat destroyed any sense of immersion for me, but I have no choice but to use it if I want to communicate with others.

Since immersion is out the window and ZOS is slow to understand the importance of optional UI elements, may as well give us the information.

    Immersion
For me it really depends on where the information is. Having things stuck on the edges of the 2D HUD (eg buffs, bars, boxes) is fine, as long as I can still see the world. It's floating in-world UI elements that I don't like (eg, overhead markers).

But options are the best thing overall.

    Both.

    Options, ZOS, options....

This is what I was about to post.

Just give them all toggles, immersion seeking players may turn things off, information seeking players turn them on.

Immersion, if it has to be one of the two.

Personally I prefer options. So that the immersion crowd can go with as little info as they want, the information crowd can get as much as they feel they need and for both to be accommodating when dealing with someone who favours whatever is contrary to them.

I like how minimalistic the vanilla UI is. I only wish for more spells.. At least one more ability per bar.. I feel so limited by 5 per weapon. Drives me nuts sometimes. Too used to binding 40 different things in other mmos. But yeah, not too bothered by the numbers.

    Edit: grammar

Immersion because I play to enjoy playing rather than bean counting, stat comparisons and meters, etc.

It's suppose to be pick up and play vs a long drawn out calculation

Yeah lets just pick up and play....... When we do not even understand mechanics is when people are left in the dark on exactly how much fun they could be having..

That cheese is cheese.. No I swear... Even though you cannot taste, or smell it.... It is still cheese I promise.. Just keep chewing..

But again this could fall under the "OPTIONS TOGGLE ON/OFF" just like the chat box and we all know how people feel about having "Options" IN THIS GAME..

See sig. Sallington said it best.

Agreed that toggle \ options are the best choice.

Given only the two options, it has to be information. You can't improve without metrics by which to judge.

My kind of poll LOL, however "both" should really have been added.

From a sales point of view if you can service 2 types of customers wanting the same product, why choose only one?
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

I like immersion, but only in a single player game, like witcher 3 (i love that game so much). This is an MMO, and whilst i do like questing solo, If I'm constantly chatting to friends or doing dungeons/sewers runs there's no immersion anyway imo. I, like the rest of you, just want options. I'm sure they're adding floating combat text and buff/debuff timers on console soon, they talked about it briefly in an eso live episode, but options are what we need, you can't argue youre against something if you can just simply turn it off and pretend like it doesn't exist.

By default players need more info to theorycraft and maximize our builds. We shouldn't be forced to use addons to get the basic info that would be standard for any other MMO.

The "...but it's Elder Scrolls" excuse is just a fanboyish delusion used to cover for poor design choices. We should have a customizable UI akin to every other modern MMO on the market with the ability to turn off and adjust elements as the user sees fit.
