Where the option for "dumb poll"? The two games can't seriously be compared. They are set in the same universe but that means absolutely nothing for game design. Ones a single player rpg, and ones an mmo

So, Captain Obvious! Do you prefer single player TES or their attempt at an MMO? Simple really

The poll was still functioning before it got moved (did the mods break it or close it?) and it was a private poll so I felt there was no need to explain myself. But since you asked....

I voted Skyrim. I had to because most of my experience with ESO has been solo. So when compared to Skyrim, which is solo as well, ESO just doesn't measure up as a solo experience in my opinion.

    Vote please

    No.

Look, I like Skyrim for modding. For the sheer power creep. For all the crap you can do to the game to fine tune it into being exactly what you want.

I like ESO for the writing, the gameplay, the build diversity... yes, you can laugh if you want, but every Skyrim build eventually boils down to, "I do all the things now! %D"

So, no. You want me to pick a favorate... I'll go with Grim Dawn.

It's not just that I don't have a preference between the two, it's that there's fundamental irreconcilable differences between them.

I didn't vote because I like them almost equally.

You see, with ESO, I am solo 80% of the time. That said, I feel like I am playing a single-player game that has online multiplayer assists, and that's good. I had always wanted Skyrim to be this way, and so, it feels like I have that wish.

I suppose I'd say I liked Skyrim more. However they are completely different games. Skyrim at least knew what it was and did an okay job of it. ESO is confused and suffers from an identity crisis. ESO has the potential to be a great game, but it needs to decide who it's audience is first. It really seems like it's trying to cash in on Skyrim's success and the draw of an MMO at the same time. Trouble is that those are two completely different demographics.

I don't think I can vote on this one. They aren't even the same style of gameplay really. I wouldn't even consider Morrowind and Skyrim the same style of Gameplay. They are all Elder Scrolls games but I don't think I could pick one over the other. I just wish The Elder Scrolls Anthology came with a physical copy of ESO for the collection. Just got done looking over my maps. lol.

One more thing i have to stress out is this.

Statictics and research and polls concluded that ESO is the worst accepted game in ES series. I say bah what do they know. This is those guys have no credibility what so ever in my eyes b/c one damn crucial thing/fact. They DO NOT PLAY OR TEST games they write about. They simpley collect a few statement here do one or two polls there and thats it... ta-da an article.

Tho i have to agree that i was sceptical about how this ES MMORPG would turn out. I though that it will be big failure. It would not be the first time that great idea gone south b/c well dunno everything, from the mechanic, over the atmospheric feeling to the storyline and quests.

Well, i was wrong. This game come out totally great when you take a look how bad it could have ended. Biggest plus: canceling the monthly subscription.

P.S. Why we dont have dual hand spellcasting like in Skyrim?

Reasons why I like Skyrim more.

You get what you pay for.
    Simple levelling system.
Dual casting magic, mix n match.
You don't have to use weapons or staffs
    No super nerfs.
You can upgrade your weapons and armour without using honing stones/embroidery/oils
Archery is what it is and your don't have to be only several feet away to be able to target your enemy.
Sneaking does not use your stamina plus the sneak mechanic is hella funny.
Destruction magic has three elements and you can train in one or all three.
    No such things as motifs.
    Gold is easier to obtain.
You can use healing spells while chopping/ stabbing or using destruction spells
You can train in anything you want /cross class morph
    No scammers or crown stores.
Restoration has better and seemingly stronger magic.
So does alteration but that does not exist in ESO.
Occasional lag or crashes but not as many as ESO.
Werewolf transformation can last for hours
If on PC you can have various and wonderful mods to improve your experience
    Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild
    Three great DLCs
Unique power only you have against the common enemy. I'm Speshul, me.

    What is like about ESO

Group play if you want it.
Robes are light armour and have an actual armour rating
    Explore new areas of Tamriel
Two decent minions if your are a sorceror
    Hide helmet option.

Hmm. The Skyrim list is only what I can think of at the moment. It makes me want to play it again.

Difficult question since the two games have very different elements that cause you to like or dislike them.

If you only value things from the point of view that made skyrim great then ESO seems a bit weak and bland. But ESO has a whole different scale of interactivity and social interaction where Skyrim can't even compete.

So the long term entertainment level is almost infinitely greater in ESO than skyrim.

I played skyrim for more than 900 hours. I passed that time played in ESO 14 months ago and haven't cut down on my gametime since then.

This list contains a few things that I just wanted to comment on.

I think that the dual hand spell and weapon system in Skyrim is the basis of what TES should have across the board. It is what ESO should have gone with instead of what they have now. It is not the "MMO's must have bars" solution, but it is simple, it works and it would have scaled up to an MMO. I look forward to the next iteration of this in TES 6 because I think that they have found a mechanic that works.

There are things about a dual hand system that would send a lot of MMO players to Trembling Hills to recover. Still, I vastly prefer the two hand system over the bar system, and it would have put Spell Crafting front and center as a major part of the offensive and defensive part of the game. I think the result would have been awesome.

As for the crafting comments, I have to disagree. I think that crafting concept in ESO is well ahead of Skyrim and hope that TES 6 picks up this and moves forward from ESO instead of Skyrim. The idea of styles and traits is an improvement. Finding motifs to learn styles is good, and having to find and learn traits before they can be used is also good. The choice of trait and style material was odd, and could have been done better, but it is a good start. Sadly, now that ZOS needs to monetize the game, this stuff is ripe for the picking and has become grindy to a crazy extreme.

Your pool is broken. Very broken. No other Elder Scroll games and no "I could give a crap" option.

War does not determine who is right - only who is left.

The heroes during times of war, are nothing but mass murderers during times of peace.

If I'm being completely honest, I like Skyrim more than ESO. I like the IDEA of ESO more than Skyrim but as my concept repository shows, ESO isn't the game I was hoping it would be. I wasn't looking for Skyrim online. I was looking for The Elder Scrolls Online and while there is SO much about ESO I love that is pure TES, there are just too many environmental and immersion things that make the experience... wanting.

Sitting in chairs. Buying/Building a home, companions, my horse not going "poof" when I dismount, swimming underwater, freedom to explore (no inter-zone invisible walls), and the list just goes on and on.

A huge one for me is a TES MMO would have a calendar that we can follow and holidays that are celebrated in the appropriate regions and towns. and adventuring in a zone should be viable even after a player "out-levels" that zone.

In a few years hopefully my answer will a triumphant vote for ESO, but right now... Skyrim.

I would love ESO more if it was a single player game. :3

I prefer the feeling of immersion of playing in my own universe, not affected by other players + savegames. I can not do that in an mmo. I gave up immersion already during the beta testings, and it took me only 3 months to get used to not having the option to save my game.

Also I could actually read all conversations, but vet dungeons require a group - and my teammates usually rush everything.

I prefer MMOs, but MMOs 'done right'

ESO has a great basic framework, but it misses so many key fundamentals of the MMO experience it's almost like a wasted effort.

A high quality, 'next gen' Skyrim would have probably done better here.
