No, they don't look awful. In fact, they're rather pretty. But they look like they were made for another game entirely, not ESO. They do not at all fit the artistic aesthetic of this game. They look more like they came from, respectively (top to bottom)Noble Dress: 1500's England, Noble Suit: 1700's England, Wedding Suit: 1800's England. Of course the currently available wedding and evening gown (which are exactly the same dress recolored) look like bad Ren Faire wear.

Now, whoever is designing the armor costumes is awesome. But whoever they put in charge of designing CLOTHING needs to be flogged. Has this person EVER played the game????

This is a fictional game not set in the real world timeline. The aesthetics chosen are probably for their recognizability to the general public.

Having studied those eras of England I could certainly not tell the dress was inappropriately placed as belonging to different centuries...and I'm not sure I believe you anyway.

Personally, I think they all look great, and particularly relish the idea of using the wedding suit as a stage 4 vampire. Should look awesome!

I've seen this discussion before when the costumes were first announced. There are actually precedents for such styles in TES, though sometimes only in concept art because it is a lot of development work for only a few characters. So I'm actually glad ESO can afford to increase stylistic diversity and hope they will use some of the new styles for NPCs in the future.

Vampires were literally my first thought when I saw that one.

Just a thought, but I suspect he's pulling those numbers out of an unfortunate Scrib.

The Dress certainly looks consistent with some items in Morrowind. Same with the Noble Suit, for that matter. So, if there's an accusation of them being anachronistic, it's more than ESO isn't set in the late Third Era, and not something to do with real world British fashion history.

FINALLY there are clothing options for male characters! Even my female characters refuse to wear skirts or dresses. This is good news for me. <3

Well the Argonians have a lot of Aztec and Mayan inspiration, and for the Breton it's certainly medieval Europe. Those cultural periods were thousands of years apart. Yet they exist in ESO at the same time. If suddenly ZOS introduced militarized space suits or something I might agree with you, but those don't seem all that out of place.

You can find most of the clothes NPCs wear when stealing - just launder the item before use  (Though unfortunately they don't work as costumes as of yet, and will take up your armor slots.)

But these new costumes are awesome! I'm having everything, costumes and mount! Best looking vanity items yet! Can't wait to parade around Tamriel in these garbs

Finally, some costumes I will buy! I can see my big bad Basil wearing both those male outfits - as a vampiric high elf nobleman, he's used to dressing in only the best fabrics available.

I rather like the nedic armours too.

And CLOUDED SENCHE finally! Oh yes, I'm a happy bunny this month!

All this just as I've finished building my new PC too. Super high-res goodies! :D
RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

Pretty sure you can't find any noble clothes by stealing, certainly not the dress on the right in my pic.

This isn't a complete list (as I have seen other items not on here), but you can definitely get the male outfit (vested shirt and cuffs).
One bonus to these looted items is that you can dye them, which you can't do with costumes

Terrible really when you think of it. In times of ESO they had strong late XVIII cent. strong european influence that was never seen in future ES games it seems.

The noble suit looks like something Sheogorath would wear in this or prior games so not really out of keeping.

The one I am having trouble with is whether I am willing to drop crowns on yet another skin of the senche mount just to keep up with having all the mounts...

    e!

While this portrait of Eleanor of Toledo is Italian it IS from the 1500s:
    800px-Eleonora_di_Toledo_1543_Agnolo_Bronzino.jpg

This portrait of Elizabeth I is from the 1500s and IS English:
    elizayoung.jpg

Of course the skirts are not as wide/full due to game rendering issues but it is absolutely clear this piece is HEAVILY inspired by Renaissance European fashion. And whether or not this is consistent with the previous TES games it is not AT ALL consistent with fashion as presented in ESO.

Instead of making our characters all look like they are attending the local Ren Faire why are we not getting CULTURAL costumes from the different races of ESO?

If you don't like them, don't use them.

How is that a fix? You still have to put up with these costumes becoming part of the decor. I've been asking ZoS about an option to hide other people's costumes (analogue to the "hide helmet" on your own character) but I've never gotten a reply. Perhaps if they keep making ridiculous costumes, popular demand for such an option will grow.

The Noble Dress is fine. It is actually the only one of the three that, to my eye, looks like it belongs in Tamriel.

Regarding the men's clothes... well, as stated, they are fine for a trip to the theatre in London. Oh, and Captain Jack will be back for his boots.

Edit: Wanted to add that artistically, they look very good. The men's outfits come from a time in our history that is too recognizable as being from OUR history.

I love the male outfits, even if the wedding suit strongly suggests the groom is a classy vampire. All this month's crown store offerings, really. I've been waiting for the clouded leopard senche. It's the first time the store offers something I really want.

My problem with these clothes is that they're all so very human. No, not even that, so very High Rock nobility. It's a good safe start, but I hope my Bosmer or Redguard will get a nice choice of clothes (not armor!) at some point too. Though Bosmer at least have a few passable options already.

I like them. The only problem I see is

    1. They're not dyeable.
    2. I'd only spend money on costumes if I could use them for all future RP and non-RP characters. Since we need to buy a new account for more char slots I don't really feel like investing too much in one account.
