Physical Copies of ESO Console Hit Retail

A buddy of mine that works for Best Buy told me that they just received their copies of ESO for the Xbox One and PS4. Game is set to be released next Tuesday and he says they typically get new releases up to a week ahead of time. He stated that the back of the packaging is stating that 75gb HDD space is required for the game.

Just posting since I know some find interest in this stuff.

I think ESO took 30GB originally. My, my, these patches sure are big.

There have been rumors of a 15gb day one patch, but not sure if that is true or not. I think the reason they are saying 75gb is to have room for future content/patches etc.

They have to be able to download and store the patch, so the required space is always larger than what is used from day to day.

This is likely the case, and I'm expecting some of that day 1 patch may be art assets for forthcoming DLC in the near future to boot.

75 GB could also include maximum at install and then size shrinks?

The 15gb patch on release for disk only versions is not a myth, an official news article on ESO's website directly said that a couple weeks over a month ago.
The question is if the digital version will have the same (or any) patch. The disk only holds 50gb, and was burned well over a month ago. The digital version was only dowloadable recently for XB1 at about 56gb, and not even available yet for PS4. It's possible they will already be fully updated and won't need any patching.

    @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_AlanG @ZOS_JessicaFolsom @ZOS_GaryA
Any news on if the digital edition will have the same (or any) launch day patch at all? I really need to know, so I'll know if I need to download it at a public fast internet library or not.

EDIT: Old post of mine that has the source of the 15gb thing: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/1751917

How about they have all the announced DLC included on console's first install from disc so their patches won't be so big when they make it live, You know its been done for months now.

I have no idea if the game uses something like the BSAs that the Single Player Games use. Those are compressed archives of the assets the game uses. Perhaps they can't compress them or compress them the same way on the consoles. That could be one reason as to why the game is larger on the consoles.

    Haha nice meme.
Ya know...the more I read ppl's comments in this forum and Xbox I'm starting to sense that ZOS is going to capatalize on this. Ppl will spend $60 in the console store or retail after having paid $20 just to have the files downloaded.

A similar situation occurred when the first tiger mount was announced and ppl went out to buy multiple game cards just to get it not realizing the only got a mount and 200 crowns per card instead of 3000 crowns.

Or the limited offer items in the crown store where ppl have active ESO plus and buy another chunk of crowns

It's crazy...then let's say those who buy the game just to pre-download (tho you could get 500 crowns) may experience less than ideal server experience as day 1 of any MMO game is less than ideal as far as server stability

Then I'm almost sure that no later than July we will see those exp potions...more crowns spent

Buyers habits and marketing...interesting customer reactions.

ZOS isn't hurting for money at all

Do you think the people burned by the delay in pre download and those burned by the transfer will fork up additional money that easily? I'm not saying they wouldn't but it doesn't make sense to me. Easiest way to voice your concern is through money.

I'm trying to find someone I know locally that isn't transferring.. then I can copy the game onto my portable HDD and just patch it.

I'll probably hedge my bets and DL it on the 8th just in case the code turns out to be important too though.

I'm 100% sure that the code has nothing to do with the transfer but linking the account does.

I'm suggesting that holding onto the code is a good idea tho cause if your transfer is the imperial edition and you buy the regular...there is a difference and you would prob get an error after linking.

that is the only realistic concern...and maybe there is some pet reward or something that ZOS will announce tomorrow.

Well some people have really slow internet connections and if buying it and then selling their codes for $50.00, that is reasonable to some. I have a few friends that will take up to 2-3 days for it to download completely and those same people are transfers and wanted to play at launch and now that won't happen.

So I don't think it is unreasonable thing to do. It just depends on how hard up some are going to be to play on day 1. Yes, it will put more money into the coffers of a company like ZOS that seem to back-peddle on things left and right and a company that refuses to answer questions from people that pay them monthly for a game, but some people will still do it because they want to be part of the fun that comes with being there on Day 1.

I know I want to be there day 1, I did my transfer and paid my fee under the belief that I read in the emails they sent me that I would be able to pre-download and be ready for launch, which now is not the case.

Lol day 1 fun, like over stressed servers, and launch bugs?
It should be much smoother then that. But idk what to expect at this point. Just like the email you referenced statments dont seem to matter much.

I will tell you that...selling the codes might get you banned.
I recall during the BETA ZOS commented that giving a code away was fine but selling a code is not O K.

Just be careful as the Xbox enforcement team could deem this as a cause to ban you. If you're on PS4, no advice...just be careful. I'd say leave the topic alone on here for sure.

DEFINITELY don't sale it for more than what you paid.

Its too easy to determine if the code granted was used by the buyer...when you link your account, they may have checks and balances in place.

I'd suggest only buying a pre-order if you don't mind spending an extra $60-$80

I'm not a lawyer, but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that re-selling your transfer code constitutes a breach of Zenimax's terms of service.

More I think about it, all new releases have major issues on first couple of days till people start moving out into the world. I think this is a big mistake on all 3 party's (ZoS, M$, Sony). They should of thought of a way to have group of people getting in on one day others on another. Everyone on same day may cause problems. But am not that big on consoles, so not sure how these things work with you guys.
