I've been reading the controversy concerning the "boob window" for a while now. Now that I'm able to see side by side photos, I see what everyone is talking about.
I don't get it. The "boob window" was not very revealing. Why was so much offense taken that caused them to change it?
This is a result of the modern 'PC culture", and why we can't have nice things.

Actually, it's the result of a very (in my opinion) poor redesign decision where they quit making armors with a female torso and merely started "morphing" female armor over a male torso. For the full low down, see this thread:

It makes no sense for armor to open up your vitals like that.

Reading the thread you linked, I bet your right. It's a result of an attempt to cut corners.dodgehopper_ESO wrote: »I've been reading the controversy concerning the "boob window" for a while now. Now that I'm able to see side by side photos, I see what everyone is talking about.

While I do completely understand what you're saying, and I'm not saying you're wrong, but I see it from a different perspective.
Cloth clothing would offer absolutely no protection against bladed weapons and arrows. So the open window, would not really be relevant. Now on leather and metal armor, it would make sense to have no openings.
Also, for people that argue 'realism', I just don't get that. We play characters that use magic, go invisible, have demonic pets, and slay fictional monsters. In my opinion, at that point, it's silly to draw a line at "your sword is too big". I know this is a matter of preference, and everyone has an opinion, and that's perfectly fine.

Meh, I don't see the sexism on redesigning armor to look more like... armor. I don't need to go around (or see my female char go around) showing flesh to feel like a woman.
Also, as someone who has edited 3d models of armor for Skyrim, it's easier to simply copy and edit a "male" armor to a "feminine" shape than creating two from scratch or do it vice-versa. It's simply being practical and lowering costs and time, nothing that has to do with "OMG patriarchy".
