How do you feel about the changes to Redguard and Orc armor designs

I would like to thank ESO for finally making some response to the many MANY complaints about these changes. Unfortunately I AM honestly offended and feel that the staff is alienating many of their players, particularly the female players, with these changes.

ESO Responded to my question finally, and I appreciate it. I wish I'd worded the question better since the answer didn't really address the main part of the concern. What upsets me to the point that I am again considering unsubscribing is how dismissive the staff is of the player's feelings.

Thousands of players chose these armor styles, picked them out of the dozens of options, crafted them, dyed them and proudly wore them because we LIKED them! I particularly liked the unique, relaxed, and culturally appropriate look of the redguard light armor. Logging in to see that armor changed into something that bears almost no resemblance to what I chose and crafted is a big blow. The "Boob window" may have been a mistake, but a lot of players chose that one costume out of the dozen options available because they enjoyed having something with a little more fantasy feel to it.

Women Object to these Sexist Changes. In my last thread I jokingly commented about cleavage, and that seems to have made people mistakenly assume I'm just a horny guy. The redguard light armor was attractive, feminine, and appealing to women players who wanted to have an armor option that makes them look like a woman. The ESO response was kind of confusing it sounded like they are making all women's armor male torsos with a few tweaks (2 lumps added on). This is why I'm so offended. ESO may not have intended this, but it gives the message "Adventurers are male. Female adventurers will be men with breasts taped on" In an earlier conversation about the change I was advised to buy the wedding dress in the crown store. Since that is the ONLY feminine garb available now, ESO is sending a strong sexist message "You either adventure like a man, or get a wedding dress and be a housewife like a proper woman"

This was NOT a slutty outfit! This is something many women would enjoy wearing IRL! It is far more realistic than the new one.
    ESO-Dress_zpsrdwwj925.jpg

Costumes: The other problems not addressed were the changes to existing costumes and ineffectiveness of the new costumes. The seadrake costume, forebear dishada costume and all of the NPCs in Alikr also were changed. And, to be blunt, they look horrible.

    Screenshot_20150309_224928_zpsusyvhitv.png

Adding a halter top to the crown store does not fix the problem. I feel stabbed in the gut by game makers who take away something I loved and then tell me that maybe, someday in the vague future I MIGHT be able to buy it back for real money. I had fully intended to stay subscribed to support the game. Now I don't want to because I don't want to be forced to pay just to keep the things I loved about the game.
On the other hand, the new clothing that we can steal is actually pretty nice! But... it's not usable. I don't understand why it takes the place of our current armor so we can't actually use it outside of towns.

    Seadrake Disguise Change by BROTHER_NUMSIE
    seadrake1.6_zpswybdm05m.jpg

    RESOLUTION:
I know this isn't what you want, but I really really believe ESO should take the old design for redguard light amd medium just make the minor tweaks to the textures and roll everything back. The reason this is so important is the NPCs. No matter how many crowns I spend, I can't help poor Lady Larrisa. This new design, if some players like it could be rolled out as a new Burka Motif. This would fix our costumes our NPCs and allow the gamemakers to use their new design.
If that won't be done, then at least make clothing layer over top of armor and then released the redguard light armor styles as a clothing that we can get without crowns.
Even the armors that look better overall, have select pieces that players may have used in combination with other styles and now the combined effects are ruined. I actually prefer the new look of many of the Orcish pieces, but some players worked hard perfecting combinations.

I don't care much since armor cosmetics is one area where ESO falls far short of other competing games. I would argue that much older games, such as LOTRO have more robust cosmetics and textures that are not too far off from what ZOS gave us. Competing games such as GW2 are far ahead, silly giant great swords aside.

This is the stream in which they answered my question. The response was long.. and the part about the torsos was confusing. It sounded like they want to use male torsos for everything with a few adjustments where needed, so taking away our feminine top makes this easier on the devs.

Just trying to give some examples and to respond directly to the comments on the ESO stream that was just posted. Also the previous polls, did not have any in between options which I felt skewed the results. Most players seem to like at least some of the upgrades, but the real controversy is on the ones that got the most drastic redesigns.

Would you like me to unlink the image? There are many many images buried in at least 5 different threads. I thought it'd be helpful to compile them, but I could easily use another. Sorry if it offended.

Food for thought (from another source):
Iron Bull: Rah... that's some good armor.
Cassandra: Are you referring to me?
Iron Bull: Some high-ranking women wore ornamental crap with *its hammered into it. One good shot, and all that cleavage gets knocked right into the sternum. Real messy. Good on you for going practical.
    Cassandra: I aim to please.
Iron Bull: Leave something to the imagination too.

Boobwindow aside, I still prefer the detail of the old armor far better as the current version is very drab. Given the very meandering explanation given on ESO Live recently, who knows what the reason for the change was. All I know is if they put it in the Crown Store as a style, I at least will know why.

These guys are destroying everything I enjoyed about this game, only way to ensure they learn from their mistake is to ensure the public who hasn't purchased this game does not.

Get on every game forum you know and pass along that if people are considering purchasing this game that they will be subjected to *** looking armor made by prudes who glorify male masculinity and would prefer their women behind a sheet.

The reasons given for the removal of the original Red / Orc styles seemed rather nonsensical to me and I didn't really care much for the dismissive response as a whole.
I also don't really understand why, if they weren't happy with, or wanted to change the early armour designs, that Redguard and Orc were the only ones that had a hideous redesign. Or, again, how anyone with a lick of sense of style thought that the new designs are superior to the old, when you've taken an original, stylish looking design and replaced it with one that looks much the same as every other style in the game.
    It's boring and ugly.

I'm fairly sure it has to do with what was mentioned in the OP about using male torsos and just sticking boobs on it when needed as an easier alternative to actually creating proper female torsos, rather than any desperate need to redesign the style because they "felt it wasn't up to the quality they envisioned".

They can stick whatever they like in the Crown store, because I wont be paying to have a more feminine look back, and after that response, I wont be subscribing any longer either.

I approve of some of the new textures, but for some of the printed designs, they are busy or seem inappropriate for the armor. Upgrading the textures for lowbie Redguard armor is fine, but the new design is just awful and lazy. The higher level Redguard armor, while having a cute print, is busy and the balance of dye colors is totally off. I'm ambivalent against the Orc boob window. It looks painful and I personally wouldn't wear it (along with Golden Saint/Dark Seducer armor), but if someone chooses to craft and wear that style, more power to them.

I'm female. I understand wanting to make armor... "unisex", for either ease of modeling or whatever you feel is necessary... but the explanation given was awkward and sexist and there is no feasible option to get back what we had. There's plenty of games out there with gender-equal armors that leave the holes right where they are rather than taking them away from everyone.

from ESO's response in the LIVE video, it was simply a matter of bringing in the outliers of their early designs inline with the REST of the gear in the game as well a model correction (using the male model to create both female and male armor) while also promising to look for ways to bring in new gear that have the features the players are sad they lost...

an honest explanation of the changes along with trying to meet player's desires in the future...

not seeing an issue here anymore, personally

It would be nice to see the before/after of ALL the armor levels. I know some people are upset over particular changes, but my orc (who is wearing level 20 heavy) looks better in the new Orc heavy at that level than she did before the update.

I downright cringed when I first outfitted her, and I think she looks better now.

I'm also wondering what the new Necromancer set looks like at V2, because my poor argonian sorc looked like a musketeer when she was wearing that.

I was happy that they asked your question on the last ESO Live, this has been discussed in multiple threads and they got tons of feedback that they asked for. Unfortunately for them, they didn't like a lot of the feedback I suppose because they ignored it for a long while and then a couple of weeks back during another ESO Live they picked a question from one of the few people that praised their changes who asked if more armor sets would be revised and the answer was no.

The explanation for why it was changed left me even more confused because they said they essentially just added breast forms to male armor, but if you compare Bosmer medium low level armor for example, the male and female chest pieces are completely different. For the record, I lament the low level light Redguard top changes on both the male and female characters. My husband's character looked fantastic in that shirt! I loved my Redguard light top so much that I made a lot of them purple quality so I could prolong use on them, and I used them often in RP for several characters. I can't stand even looking at their icons in my inventory and bank anymore so I'll be deconstructing a LOT of Redguard light tops. My dreams of the perfect pirate outfit are crushed and my heart is a bit broken. The fact that they made vague mention of these old styles possibly making it to the cash shop...blows my mind.

A lot more than bare skin. Also robes in fantasy games aren't just clothing, they've got magical properties. How else do you explain the increased spell resistances, reduced costs, etc. These aren't just passives to put point into in this game, past TES games(excluding Skyrim) gave bonuses while wearing light armor and you suffered penalties when wearing heavier armors.

Ahhh there is the closed minded people posting stereotypes about other players. Sorry but just because you probably don't even play a female. We're not horny guys, most of the people most upset about this are women who resent having our lovely designs on the redguard armors changed to something so ugly and generic.

As for the request for other examples and other levels I would love to see some posted here. I actually like most of the changes I see to the Orcish armor. Because they didn't really change the basic design and style, they simply improved and cleaned it up (and closed a window)

That's why I'm even more confused about what's basically vandalization of the redguard armors. Everything that made them unique, and different and have CLASS and style is gone. Even if they decide to charge us for it later, that won't allow me to have another Pirate Party with my guild because I can't/won't ask members to pay real money just to wear a costume one time. And it won't stop me from feeling vagely sick the entire time I walk Alikr and Bangkorai and see those poor restrained NPCs

Sad to see the first real answer given to this topic was a non-answer.

I quit this game because of this change. The Redguard heavy armor was ruined; the pants are now leather and not plate. They look out of place and do not dye like the rest of the set. This directly contrasts with the "ready for war" explanation. My character was made less armored in the update meant to "cover up" other armors. Why?

I was skating by in this game on the fact that, at the very least, I thought my character looked good. When that was removed, I had no reason to stay. I do not like any of the other heavy armor sets.

I am not even playing the game now that it has gone free to play. Perhaps I'll come back if new heavy armor sets that I like are released, or if new content comes out (actual content, not stealing/champion/etc.).

Zenimax's lack of response and consideration for a large portion of their players throughout this mess has been sadly typical of the company based on my experience playing the game for many months. Every time something like this happens, they say that they're going to work on communication, and every time they lie and/or fail.

So, if they have magical properties, what makes them NEED to look like a stiff cookie cutter sheath? The fantasy element is exactly the reason why players should have a choice if they want super "realistic" looking armors or something with more style.
