Vicious Serpent Set - Is it too strong?

The new VR14 medium drop from completing Sanctum Ophidia: Vicious Serpent
7AzPRrp.png
Total:
- 8% Weapon Critical
- 22 Weapon Damage
- 8% Reduced Stamina Cost for abilities
- Increased movement speed after killing an enemy
- Restore 200 stamina upon killing an enemy
- Better enchantment that anywhere else (VR14 legendary infused with legendary glyph currently grants 116 Max Stamina, while this item already gives 121 at epic level)

Some craftable sets for stamina users:

Hunding's Rage
eUstDsL.png
Total:
- 8% Weapon Critical
- 28 Weapon damage
- 91 Max Stamina

Ashen Grip
zIzTYgh.png
Total:
- 4% Weapon Critical
- 17 Weapon Damage
- 136 Max Health
- 10% chance to breathe fire for 106 damage on melee hits (capped every 4 seconds)

An equivalent for the 8% cost reduction in the magicka world: Seducer
bRhrqph.png
Total:
- 8% Reduced Magicka Cost for abilities
- 94 Max Magicka
- 24 Magicka Recovery

My concern is that this set will become the only valid choice for stamina DPS. It is far too superior to craftable sets to use anything else.
Only stamina PVPers will still use crafted gear to keep the Impenetrable trait.

Of course this set is bound on pickup and won't endanger the "economy" immediately, but as weeks go by, it will enventually become the common gear for all stamina users in PVE.
I understand that rare drops should be strong, but this is simply too much imho.

What do you think?

Um, it's 4% critical on the vicious serpent set not 8%.

But it does seem overpowered (yes, I get it's supposed to be a reward for a difficult challenge, but even so).

I don't necessarily think it's OP, but it's really messy. Feels like two sets jammed into one.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually bugged and is meant to be two separate sets.

It's based on the Quick Serpent set from the VR12 trials, which was already quite good:

They buffed it for Sanctum Ophidia drops.

I really like the new ophidian from sanctum. Only thing they need to do is bring light and heavy sets on the same level. New Aether is only mediocre and nobody will use it over the "old" Aether.

I wouldnt. I already have enough of the light set. Buts theres no point wearing it.

I´m at 4/5 vicious Ophidia. When i get the fifth piece i will consider going on stamina with my Main DK. Its that good. And it also looks cool. Best looking Medium Set so far!

Some cmplained that dropped sets weren't as good as crafted sets, some of us like the crafted sets.

But yeah, you will never get full agreement on anything.

i find the irritation in the power and the lack of customization for players why give us motifs if were all gonna be wearing that? since crafting means nothing in sets
honestly i think they should bring the crafting sets up in power to compensate. or maybe the serpent will drop in power once the vet ranks go byebye in champion system finale

I agree with the sentiment that it would be nice if Crafted sets could be expanded. Why can't crafters learn to unlock these new sets? They both contain styles that people might/don't want to use and also have stats which people feel they must use. I've already run into this problem in the past with characters, who for instance I wanted to always keep in Imperial armor for theme but simply could not. They could make a more robust 'costume' system for this if they wanted, I suppose. The other alternative, and the more interesting one I think would be to make it a difficult climb for crafters to learn sets like Warlock, Storm Knight, or any other set out there that is found in the world. I find that possibility more interesting.

Personally I think that medium armors were blown out of proportions some time ago when the devs panicked and tried to balance stamina builds better. @Paul_Sage has always (allegedly) been an adamant advocate of small and gradual balance changes but it is getting out of hand now.

Time to start toning down some of the medium armor sets or to start buffing light and heavy armor sets accordingly.

I'm glad that there are some high-end, highly sought after sets that aren't easily accessible simply by spending 25+ days passively researching traits. Without a carrot at the end of the stick endgame starts to unravel. You can't have it all served on a silver platter for you just for logging into the game.

There is no endgame crafting. Everyone can do everything too easily. There is no challenge and therefore no rewards for crafters.
    In other words, crafting sucks.

In ESO Live, @ZOS_PaulSage stated that there would be the possibility to craft unique items at some point. That would surely help but right now I don't see any reason to spend time in crafting. [source, at 01:29:00]

-To get hunding's rage all you have to do is go on a guild store, buy an item, and click research 6 times over the period of a few weeks.

-To get 5 pieces of vicious ophidian, you have to spend quite a while getting through Sanctum Ophidia and then quite a while longer doing it again and again until you get the pieces you need.

In other words, crafting is easy and the current highest-end raid gear, from content that 98% of the game population probably can't even come close to finishing, should be better than it. There would be no reason to do any endgame content if you could just go and craft better gear.

The perks for crafting are that you can get it when you want it even if you have to buy it from someone, put whatever style you want on it, and whatever trait you want it, no RNG at all. Being better than everything else is not a perk that should apply to crafted gear.

When the next content part is released, it will add even better sets to force you to abandon your current OP gear.
Crafted sets will remain exactly the same, as they have been since June. The difference will just keep increasing until crafted gear completely disappears from the "decent" builds.

No just a mix. Many of the sets that you craft are still very useful. They are so useful as to get you to the point where you can get those slightly improved sets. I am for more diversity and power for crafted sets also.It would be cool if they could actually mix crating with end game trials/dungeons/arena running though.

Well, compared to others the thing that really stands out is that it just gets additional "fluff" boni, I personally wouldn't mind losing the stamina on kill or the movement speed at all.

What I'm more excited about is the opportunity to stack 2 cost reductions for up to 62% for weapon skills, which does sound nice.

Eh, compare the amount of people wearing crafted sets versus Sanctum Ophidia sets. At the point that most people are wearing Sanctum Ophidia gear and nobody is wearing crafted gear, we can talk.
