Im guessing noone read the article - I hadnt . No I did. Here is a very relevant paragraph copy and pasted
"Now that the game is out and a community has been built around it, the publisher saw the need to "adjust staffing" accordingly, also reassuring that the studio "continues to operate with a large work force."
"We remain strongly committed to The Elder Scrolls Online, and continue to invest heavily to develop new content for PC and Mac players, prepare the game for its console launch, and handle our planned expansion into important international territories," Bethesda said of the game's future."

This statement exists only to reassure the investors and the subscribers; there is really no information here that hadn't been around before. And yes, I'd say that a good many of us read it. The point seems to be that you accept this press release at face value. But not everyone does.
I hope it's true, I want it to be true. Call me cynical, but I'm sure the company is counting on many of us feeling that way.
Lets check that statement out "reassure the investors"
Who are you talking about its a private equity company we have no idea who they are - This is different to Blizzard which is publicly listed through its whoever parent (I forgotten)
"Press release at face value"
Yes when the OP refers to it as proof of something without reading it. Its a normal part of the cycle. If you want to argue that is your business - this is the internet your able to have whatever opinion you like. Others may join you as well. You can point to the sky and cool it green - water and call it dry. It won't change the facts.
I'm seriously wondering about your reading comprehension, mate. The venture capital company is known, look at the company About page here:
http://www.zenimax.com/about
...which I've already linked to, and the press releases here:

Note particularly the entry for Oct 6, 2010, and then look at the board of directors. You'll see that this information is quite public. There is nothing mysterious about this. And no, I'm not making any of this up.
As for "face value," what I take that to mean that was the poster's attitude. If it isn't, then it's up to him, not you, to say otherwise. When it comes to corporate dealings, it's wise not to take everything they say on faith. Or don't you agree with that, either?

@Cogo,
I shall await details of your next adventure with interest!
I must say that I applaud your usage of Heavy Armor, something that I use myself for my high elf Templar who is a great tank - even though some have questioned her abilities without ever seeing her in action. I have been told to use light armor but tbh, I don't feel the need to do so, and have happily played since early access, and got through six vet levels so far with no problems
God luck out there, I hope to see you in game some time

until i looked up the Jobs listing site, at zenimax.com.
A few weeks back, they where hiring for over 20 positions, from system admins to artists, for ESO.
Now that list got greatly reduced. So they not only laid off workers, they aren´t hiring new development related ones.
This indeed concerns me, a bit.
Um....dude. The job list got less because people got HIRED!
And guess where some of them come from? The "laid off" people.

Careful @Cogo, you are at risk of talking way too much sense in this thread
Might I suggest you tone it back a tad, and possibly also fetch a pitch fork?

I don´t, neither do you.
I only voiced my concerns.
Let´s not turn this thread into our own privat battlefield, though ;P

Depends on the Departments. Do you need 300 English Speaking CS reps for a Japanese release? Or would you let go 300 English speakers and hire 300 Japanese speakers? They have no plans to fully overhaul the game. So yeah it can be normal.
The champion system is about as close to an overhaul as you can get without quite crossing the line. No softcaps, no vet levels, all VR gear changed to level 50, changed set bonuses, changed mats for crafting, changed enchanting, changed alchemy, changed provisioning, change to every crafting profession, changed skills, changed passives and an entire new set of passives. How much is left that isn't being changed?
The rest of the game that isn't related to veteran/champion levels?
There's some other tweaking to other parts of the game but that is standard for any MMO as such a game is constantly evolving, and not one that is ever "finished" (which makes a mockery of those whose sole aim is to "finish" it).
How much of the "rest of the game" isn't related to champion system? I guess horses, some of the cities but even that will change a lot with the Justice system. I guess the art is the same but as far as the combat system I don't see a single part that won't change in some way except for some of the 1-49 play but a lot of that will change with changes to soft caps, passives, skills and sets.
The champion system will not impact the 1-49 portion of the game at all, the champion system doesn't unlock to a character until they are level 50.

Just to add to the discussion of layoffs, on the Elder Scrolls Online Players Facebook Page, a dev by the name of "Mike Breault" stopped by to give this tidbit:
"These were layoffs of permanent staff who had been on the project for years. I was one of them. I was the writer for the AvA team, who wrote everything in Cyrodiil and the Imperial City. I had been at ZOS for a little over two years. Someone else on the AvA team who was also laid off had been on the team for four years. We were not contract workers and we were also not hired for "launch." We were there long, long before that time. Anyone who tells you the layoffs were of contract workers or people who were hired specifically to launch the game either doesn't know what he/she is saying or is lying to you. You can look me up in the game's credits and also look me up on MobyGames.com (site that tracks credits in the games industry) to see what I've done. First time I've been laid off in 30 years in the industry."
I mean you can totally believe that he's not a fake Facebook account or anything, but this is just crazy if he was really one of 20 Devs that were working on content and got laid off.. He goes on to say over 100+ people in CS jobs were let go also.
