I don't know if I should trust that article because they say the time between ESO and Skyrim is about 1000 years.

Skyrim takes place in the 4th era while ESO takes place in the 2nd era, thats 2000 not 1000. Not only that IGN is known to lie and take bribes.

Lol at all these doomsayers. The article states ZERO information about who or what they did. For all we know...they let 50 people go who speak French and work in CS.

When devs and execs start losing jobs and a f2p business model is announced, thats when I will start worrying.

Everyone said this game would be f2p within 6 months. That didnt happen now did it?
Force weapon swap to have priority over EVERYTHING. Close enough.
Make stamina builds even with magicka builds.
    Disable abilities while holding block.
Give us a REASON to do dungeons more than once.
Remove PVP AoE CAP. It is ruining Cyrodiil.
Fix/Remove Forward Camps. They are ruining Cyrodiil.
Impenetrability needs to REDUCE CRIT DAMAGE. Not negate entire builds.

If you're being serious, I can tell you that the press makes mistakes in almost every story they publish (if you ever deal with them regularly, you'll see it). However, they usually get the gist of the story right--or, more accurately, they more or less paraphrase the press release or press conference with basic accuracy.

I wouldn't give the press that much credit, tbh. Half the time they snag their info from other reporters reporting the story. Sometimes those reporters belong to publications like the Daily Mail. I have yet to see a news source that doesn't do the report first, verify later technique.

They got comment from Bethesda softworks, the publisher of the game. Not Bethesda Game Studios, the developers of past TES and Fallout games. ZOS is a subsidiary of Zenimax Media who owns all 3 of the previously mentioned studios.

    nope.

Both Bethesda and ZOS are subsidiaries of Zenimax Media. Bethesda isn't the publisher of ESO and doesn't handle the PR.

As said its nothing out of the ordinary you hire more staff during your busy period and let them go when things aren't as hectic. I'm not sure why this is hard to grasp?

I thought thats what contract or term employment was for. Not fair to hire someone full time, longterm then lay them off, when they knew ahead of time it was only temporary, if that's what they did. Some employers will hire full time knowing that the job will only last just so long. That way they get better qualified and more serious candidates applying. But the applicants come in with the understanding that they can actually build a life with this job for the long term then have rug pulled out from under them.

Perhaps the best way to stop this kind of posts is to provide more information about the layoff? I understand you don't have to to do this but if the layoff is really not that serious, why not just clarify it a bit? This kind of panicking might go on the rampage sometimes. It will do both the company and the players good.

No, we're actively working on a fix for that issue. Voicing constructive discontent about an outstanding bug is totally acceptable. It's possible to be critical or even negative, and still be respectful and constructive.

    From the linked article:

"BY CASSIDEE MOSER The Elder Scrolls Online developer Zenimax Online Studios has been hit with several layoffs.

Bethesda confirmed with IGN that the layoffs are not out of the norm for "games of this type," explaining that they had initially built up their staff to ensure that the PC version launched smoothly and to provide customer service that would "handle the expected questions and community needs of The Elder Scrolls Online at launch."

Now that the game is out and a community has been built around it, the publisher saw the need to "adjust staffing" accordingly, also reassuring that the studio "continues to operate with a large work force."

"We remain strongly committed to The Elder Scrolls Online, and continue to invest heavily to develop new content for PC and Mac players, prepare the game for its console launch, and handle our planned expansion into important international territories," Bethesda said of the game's future."

Which part of that do some find hard to understand?

Nothing remarkable, or to be worried about, there.

I mean when you are behind on console release, have almost an entire game overhaul planned and plan to expand to international territories why wouldn't it be normal to lay off staff?

Depends on the Departments. Do you need 300 English Speaking CS reps for a Japanese release? Or would you let go 300 English speakers and hire 300 Japanese speakers? They have no plans to fully overhaul the game. So yeah it can be normal.

The champion system is about as close to an overhaul as you can get without quite crossing the line. No softcaps, no vet levels, all VR gear changed to level 50, changed set bonuses, changed mats for crafting, changed enchanting, changed alchemy, changed provisioning, change to every crafting profession, changed skills, changed passives and an entire new set of passives. How much is left that isn't being changed?

The rest of the game that isn't related to veteran/champion levels?

There's some other tweaking to other parts of the game but that is standard for any MMO as such a game is constantly evolving, and not one that is ever "finished" (which makes a mockery of those whose sole aim is to "finish" it).

It's not. That they're having layoffs and the game still needs fixes/content (stam builds, solo content, thieves guild etc....) It's not a good thing.

You're absolutely right. Better communication would alleviate some of the problems with customers becoming disgruntled and in turn naturally grant some form of respect. The last time I heard an update for this bug was from you nearly a month ago.

That's my constructive critique. Take it for what it's worth. Good to hear that it's being worked on though. Thanks for that.

How much of the "rest of the game" isn't related to champion system? I guess horses, some of the cities but even that will change a lot with the Justice system. I guess the art is the same but as far as the combat system I don't see a single part that won't change in some way except for some of the 1-49 play but a lot of that will change with changes to soft caps, passives, skills and sets.

Most of those are tweaks and additions not overhauls. But since you seem to know everything which department let people go? How many we're hired after the release? They developed the game with 250 people. How many were on payroll before the layoff? How many devs where let go? How many did they keep as opposed to laying off?

That is like going to the mechanic and saying I want you to "tweak" my car it only needs a new suspension, transmission, electrical system and engine .. my tires are fine though.
