I've been hardcore into MMO's most of my life. But I'm at a stage now where my wife and kids, my job, and the gym take more priority than my playtime. It's just the way of things.
Skill-wise, though, I'm not worse than other players, and better than many. I simply don't have the time to dedicate to gaming. I've been playing since early-access, and still don't have a single VR12 character. And I don't do anything alot. I do a dungeon or two one week, and go along in PvP the next.
Personally, I'm fine knowing I'm usually a step or two back. VR10 versus a VR12, I know where I stand. It's the nature of having other priorities.
But it's not the first, or second season of gear that has me worried. It's the year later. Am I stuck buying these gear sets, instead of crafting my own gear like now, even if I don't want what they have to offer? What will be the power difference between season one and season four, for instance? It's got to be high enough to make it worth working so hard to get. And how will they bring crafted gear in?
Honestly, I'd rather then focus on other carrots besides stat increases and gear. New skills, abilities, effects. New mounts, pets, costumes. Even new set pieces (crafted and looted).
If they add new levels every three or six months, that might not be so bad if it's only two. But at this point in time, there are too many 'ifs', and so much precedence in the MMO world.
Quite honestly, if I'd wanted a game that focused the entire end-game on gaining new gear to prepare for the next expansion, I would have chosen games that already exist and have a ton more content to them. I *specifically* chose ESO because it was different. And I've loved it so far.

You have the wrong idea... the previous season gear will be easy to obtain so there isn't a huge gap in the player base. for season 3 S2 will be easy to get and S1 wont even be in the picture anymore.
Ruze is a veteran of the PC Beta, lived through the year one drought, survived the buy-to-play conversion, and has stepped foot in the hells known as Craglorn. He mained a nightlbade when nightblades weren't good, and has never worn a robe. He converted from PC during the console betas, and hasn't regretted it a moment since.
He'd rank ESO:TU (in it's current state) a 4.8 out of 5, loving the game almost entirely.

The question to me is, will it invalidate crafting. There's no way to know yet. But if it's easy to buy the previous season of gear, then crafting takes a huge hit. Unless there is seasonal crafted gear.

what if crafting is the way to get the previous season gear? I'd be fine with that, doesn't throw it out and I'll have something to work for.
