If they don't they will lose a lot more because top level is currently extremely boring and there is nothing at all to do. Eventually you have rolled all four classes as alts and you are just standing there.

There's quite a bit to do at end game. People just don't think there is because they aren't rewarded enough for doing it.

If it's every three or four months and they aren't overly difficult to get, I would personally welcome it. I don't want the gear hunt to stagnate, but I also don't want players to be incapable of keeping up.

As long as my character can perform up to 95% that of a top gear player, with crafted gear, I'm happy.

Skill and tactics can only make up for so much. I don't mind them having an advantage, as long as it's slight. But if it makes me feel like a VR1 versus a VR12, I'll probably lose interest in the game entirely.

If they do the gear treadmill with must have up grades every 3 or 4 months, ESO will lose alot of subs over the course of a year because people just can't keep up and will get frustrated.

I actually think the opposite. Many people are quitting because they are bored. Right now in PvP, there is not really much to play for and nothing to look forward to as far as gear. No hook.

As much as most everyone complains about a gear grind (including me), I believe it will actually keep people subbed and in game playing more often. If, and that's a big if, it is done right and not too frequently.

There has to be gear progression (hook) and it can't just be through crafted. It needs to be a combination of both.

I wouldn't mind gear that is no better or worse than existing but just different. Something new to check out but not a disadvantage if you don't want to go after it. Unfortunately the devs really seem to like carrots along a linear path though so it will probably end up being a must have.

Whole point of gear progression is to make you more OP than anyone else.
Its a crutch to make players feel more powerful than others.
Whole point of PVP is that people are on an equal footing and combat is balanced.

How will crafting and crafters fit into all of this? If I'm reading this right, the best gear in the game at any given point in time will be the gear in the current season, and will be hard to get during the season. 'Hard to get' usually means that it'll be a drop-only piece that drops from some annoyingly hard boss.

If the best gear in the game at any point in time is drop-only, where do crafters come in? If the second-best gear is from the last season, and can be bought from a vendor, crafters begin to lag behind even further in terms of quality. Will crafted gear always be inferior to the gear found in Season 1, and will only fall further and further behind the more seasons the game has?

Also, what happens to all the gear in Season 1 when the game is in Season 20? It'll be pretty much useless compared to Season 19&20, so why even have it there in the first place? Why constantly make gear outdated and inferior? Is there seriously no better way to keep players logging in on a daily basis?

If we could upgrade our existing gear via crafting professions, then I would say ok to "seasons".

Those who don't want to raid or farm a currency for vendor loot, could just advance in their own pace by unlocking upgrades (quest chains, lore books ...) and those who prefer to raid or do dungeons could farm there.

If people don't want encounters that keep getting harder why do you even care about changing your gear ever? If you are not using better gear to beat harder encounters then just get the stuff that looks the best and you are fine. This is like the easiest solo game in history so what would you even need the best gear for if you don't want to do dungeons and raids?

People like to be on an even footing in PVP. Been playing MMO's since UO killed/ganked whatever more people that i can ever hope to count and I like my enemies to be equally geared and tough to fight. Nothing worse than steam rolling people because they don't raid/do dungeons.

    Couldn't agree more.
I have high hopes for this game, but this makes me feel extremely bleh.
Vertical progression is rampant in every other MMO out there (except GW2) and I was hoping this one would be different; thinking a little bit outside the box.
I like some of the new changes (especially the removal of VR), but too much of this *** and ESO will be just another fantasy MMO. Nothing special.

Doesn't take a crafter to improve anything, cause every player has the ability to upgrade an item.

Currently, the value of crafted gear is that base stats are higher than looted, and certain few crafted set bonuses are actually desirable. Plus you can pick whatever style you want. Crafted traits are often subpar, except for a spare few. Finding a master craftsmen who has the traits researched, the style you are looking for, and the ability to craft certain higher-end sets, is not terribly hard. But advertising your services or selling crafted items is practically useless until someone comes to you.

The value of looted gear is that the set bonuses are generally more powerful, and looted traits can be far better than crafted. You can't pick your style (unless you preordered and like imperial style). Looted gear (right now) generally is hard to go after specific sets as it's not very well regulated on what bosses and in what manner drops are made, and the trade mechanics don't lend well for finding everything, due to lower pool of sellers.

I'm not too thrilled about having to worry about gear. I did that in EQ, and want to think about things other than getting the best loot here. Besides the fact that it will come from things like trials, which I am pretty much useless in due to my class. They're fun, but I hate having to deal with loot competitions and gear grind.

In the current state of the game, anybody can upgrade gear. The only advantage a dedicated crafter has over somebody who has never leveled a single crafting profession once is that they can use less upgrade materials and still get a 100% success chance.

If they made it to where crafters were the only people that could upgrade the gear, it would still invalidate pretty much every crafting passive except for the Expertise ones, along with the lengthy time crafters have spent researching traits.

I would just make past season gear extremely easy to obtain and make it very viable. I mean like, a couple days of casual play easy. Kind of like a full set of exotic gear in GW2. That should allow an easy entry into the game.

They should take a look at how SWTOR initially tried to do their PVP gear, and make extra effort not to do anything remotely similar to that.

The game is far too easy, and a large number of players reach endgame very quickly... what do they have to look forward to, if not better gear?

The carrot has to be provided over and over again to keep subs. One of the easiest ways to do this is with loot increasing in quality over time. I dunno how often that should be, but I think it's pretty much inevitable.

I quit games because i could not keep up with the gear grind. Especially annoying for PvP when gear gave you more damage to players and protection against players. You are 2 ways screwd woth those armors (SWTOR)

Better stuff is good, but do it not to much. I guess if it is season gear it is 4 times a year. If it is not to hard to get i can live with it. But when does it end. Start now with +40 stamina and end with +40340812312 stamina?

Perhaps I was not specific enough.

I meant that they should keep adding gear and only that. I don't really agree with a specific set coming out every while that everyone needs to be top tier competitive. Adding new gear regularly sounds good to me though.
