I still go back about once a year or so. Doesn't last very long because it just isn't the same game. I started at release in 99 and love the classic era but I'm not a purist about it like many. Loved classic but also loved luclin and pop, as well as oow and don eras. Wish there was an emu for those timeframes.

You should check out the classic emu, if you haven't. Been playing off and on since right after it launched about 5 years ago...It's come a long way and they've done an amazing job restoring it back to classic.

If I want to be really honest... I miss the first MUDs (text based!) I played back in the 90s and early 00s. You might laugh, but the atmosphere and companionship there I have never seen again in any "modern" MMO.

Apart from that I kinda miss the first "proper" MMO I played for over 4 years, Requiem. Sadly, it is an a quite sorry state now, it has always been a heavy spending pay-to-win game, and I am certainly not willing to keep on spending that kind of cash.

Other than that, I keep playing Tera every day, I still like it a alot, it is quite different from ESO of course.

I still enjoy ESO and will probably be here for some time, and if they manage to push through some badly needed changes and updates (and finally allow me to play a real "warrior" without feeling an outcast and 10 times weaker than the next "Harry Potter") ESO would become my favourite game for a long time to come.

For most people the 1st mmo they played is their best experience. Mainly because it is all new, huge world, other players etc. For me that is Starwars Galaxies. In the almost 10 years i played that i had a great time. In fact i still play on the emu server.

TESO for me is a great game. I don't like how the veteran content is here no matter what meridia or cadwell talk about. Even if i washed a shore of a distance land, i still wouldn't kill my own faction. But the PvP is awesome, and the stuff shown at quakecon is great. The game is still young and i keep subbing because i have good hopes for it.
    I miss class balance...

Classes shouldn't be balanced... teams should in my opinion. But im alone on this point probably.

I miss having tons of viable specs from all classes suitable for raiding, as well as melee actually viable...

I agree, nobody wants me for trials as NB, medium, dual wield. But i am viable in PvP and PvE even in veteran content pre-patch

I miss the game rewarding you for the effort you put in...

I don't need rewards to be honest and i am probably alone in this also lol. for me the PvP is rewarding enough when we smash the enemy. PvE-wise it should be good to have some reward. however... where does it end. When you have the best of the best weapon.... did you finish the game then?

I miss access to a basic mount not being an insane grind unless you pay extra...

17.500 for the first horse is peanuts. Also with all the shrines i never used a horse in the beginning. And i think it is a good idea horses are a bit expensive because you have something to work to. You want reward.. work for it.

I miss replayability of the content where endgame is just the beginning....

So true. Doing these dungeons one or two times is more then enough. But for me PvP is the endgame. Never liked raiding much as i have little time. But PvP i can jump in and out whenever i want.

I miss bosses that actually require following tight mechanics to beat...

And people cried even during beta when they couldn't figure out how to beat Doshia.. and she got nerfed.

I miss having that one instance where you can chill out socialize with people...

You can in the inn's. But that's up to other players aswell. If nobody comes there... there is no socializing. In SWTOR i went to the fleet... in SWG i went to Theed or Coronet. But in TESO i go to Cyyrodil.

I miss there being tons of things to do outside raiding or dungeon content...

They are working on it (theft/murder/justice system) I look forward to the stuff they showed. And the game is still growing and im sure they will add more stuff.

    I miss regular reoccurring events...

I hope this will come in future updates.

I miss I can make my character look how I want...

You can't? What do you mean. TESO has good character customization. Better then most mmo's. Or do you mean after you created a char and re-create ingame?

I miss dungeon queues actually popping...

I miss regular loyalty rewards given to subscribers rather than giving them the shaft...

Loyalty rewards (some mmo's call it veteran system) sometimes come later in the game. SWG, Vanguard introduced them later on. Vanguard later stopped them after 18 months or so. If they find a way to get rewards without loosing to much bag/bank space then yeah (like pets in a pet screen and costumes in a costume collection bag or something. And who gets shafted? Mad about the dog ?

There's probably a lot more I don't have time to add I probably miss too, in fact I'm having a hard time finding something that would keep me gripped to this game.

Unsub, play the mmo you liked and come back later. I am sure after a few updates you think different about this mmo. If not, then this is not the game for you. I stopped playing SWTOR after 3-4 months. I came back much later and the game has improved with lots of more content. As this game is still growing i am pretty sure it will improve. If i am wrong... well, there is always the unsub option.

I will agree with that. My first was Rift, and its my the most fave as well :( Missing those days direly!

    QQ Much.

Honestly not bothered much at all. ESO is different and the devs are stretching some. The game is in it's early stages and I'm sure we'll be seeing things needing work will be tightened up, aspects needing an overhaul I expect will be revamped. I'm confident we'll be seeing a great deal of new content as well. While everyone is entitled to there opinion I can only muster a mirthful response to your post. lols.

The thing that eso sorely lacks is community, IMO.

Everything is soloable and easy and you don't really need a group or guild for anything but PvP and a very small minority of group content. And there's no compelling reason to do that because the rewards just aren't there.

I'm in 4 trading guilds and a dead social guild from another faction. Zone chat is enough for chit chat. Otherwise there's really no reason to talk to anybody other than the occasional sale or group instance.

I really miss the days of making friends in game that you went and got stuff done with. Or meeting cool people in a pickup group that you kept playing with long term. Or having a real reason to raid besides getting on a leaderboard.

No, In spite of the management issues, ESO is the best MMO for me on the market. It's not a massive pointless grind with no focus on the story and lore and with constant cash shops or redundant content.

I do admit, I miss the times when things were different and everyone did not try to copy Wow. I also miss some of my characters.

Yes I miss all these standard features.

Indeed very standard... Let me go ahead and list the MMOs that had these standard features 6 months after launch.....

Well that list was a lot shorter then I thought it would be, for what some call standard features. Maybe there are some out there i don't know about. But dont say Rift, WoW, Aion, Swtor, Tera, or GW2. They were missing plenty of these 'standard' features, at launch, or for some time after launch.

The last MMO i played before ESO was LOTRO. I used to like playing LOTRO a lot as it had wonderful atmosphere and cosmetic customisation.

Yet i logged into it the other day (to add money to my house and check on it) and it suddenly dawned on me how dull the game was and ropey the character movement and animations were. :O

Sometimes I miss some of the old MMOs I played. But then I remember there's a reason why I left them.

ESO is not perfect. But it is continuously improved. I think the developers already addressed a lot of items from your list at QuakeCon.

Improvements to the game aren't going to happen overnight. And you most likely won't get everything you want. It just depends on whether or not you are willing to stick it out.

If you aren't willing to wait, return to your old game. I'm not trying to be harsh about it. But sometimes it takes returning to an old MMO to realize what you are missing out on by not playing ESO.

ESO has pretty much spoiled me rotten and I can't return to my old MMOs.

I played LOTRO for six years. Don't miss the game. Miss my characters and all the people I knew in game.

It had just got to such a state of milking the players for every single penny possible. It became less of a game than an intensive pocket squeezing excercise.

I have sort of recreated two of my characters in ESO though. My dwarf Rosiebelle has become Rosiebelle the orc and one of my other dwarfs Hodorf is now the shortest Nord I could make. I got the face pretty near with him though, apart from the nose.

Note sure if even possible when balancing for PvE and PvP.

That would be nice - except for the fact that the fight dynamics are both designed to be unresponsive and bugged to be unresponsive. Design - randomly moving in slow motion in combat. Bug - I got killed about 4 times on Saturday when I was clearly out of the "red" area and got hit anyway.

After seeing the beta notes for WoW:WoD ...

    Not one bit, actually.
If I want to be really honest... I miss the first MUDs (text based!) I played back in the 90s and early 00s. You might laugh, but the atmosphere and companionship there I have never seen again in any "modern" MMO.

Because back in the days of the BBS and the text-based game, the number of people using computers (especially for online socializing and gaming) was very small; you had to be kind of dedicated to learn DOS and the applications for it (anyone else here ever prefer to use WordPerfect 5.1 over Word for DOS? No? Too many three-key combos?) So you only had certain, rather nerdy types - like us - into it. Not everyone was civilized, but there didn't seem to be that many trolls (but it depended on what corner of FIDOnet you hung out on. Hey to any old Holysmokers out there.)

Windows, and the growing commercialization of the internet over the 90s (and the disappearance of amateur BBS networks like FIDONet (flame central!) pretty much ruined that old magic, huh?

I miss .. I miss ... the Blue Wave Mail System.

And Tradewars when it was Trekkie.

Before ESO started beta, I had nostalgia pangs for a certain MMO that has been around for a long while. I remember playing it back before the first expansion came, and way through until the second expansion came. I loved it. Couldn't get enough of it. Then I got busy and couldn't dedicate time to it.

So, remembering how much I loved that game, I resubbed and got all the expansions. Played through to a very high level and I hated it. Absolutely hated it. The grind was killing me, the quests were uninteresting, the player base had become supremely elitist and it just hadn't held up well. It was the nostalgia that I remember loving, not the game itself.

Then along came ESO. Been playing since beta and still not bored. I find something new to do every time I log on, the crafting is great fun, the questing is well written and means something, and the overall story is fantastic. Having every NPC voiced helps greatly with immersion, and I have loved ES titles since Arena.

I think I am going to be here for quite some time.

Not that I disagree with your other points, but the state of this game at release, balance in particular (and remains so) was a complete joke. And I say that as a 35+ year gamer and MMO player of over 15.

The fact that some have come to expect it is immaterial. There is no excuse for a multi billion dollar industry to consistently release incomplete and buggy content. If another industry did it we would use words like "defective" and "fraud" and people like yourself insisting on tolerating it make the problem worse not better.

It doesn't make you more insightful, experienced or mature than the OP. It makes you a bad consumer.

Not really. My last MMO was Rift, which I liked for a while, but I got sick and tired of it and stopped playing any mmo games for quite a while. ESO pulled me back in the mmo genre, and I don't really miss any other mmo games I've played over the years - apart my early time in WoW which I look at with sentiment.
