Because it's lame and it make a mockery of pvp?

Those are two pretty good reasons in my opinion.

This guy gets it. Many (if not most) of us would prefer a dynamic combat system where smaller organized groups can defend against zerg running "Bomb Squads." When the issue at hand is defending a node or choke point, you can only spread out so much before blatantly sacrificing the held position.

A mindless zerg of bodies running to a choke point should be mowed down by siege or other focused abilities. This would make taking keeps require taking out multiple wall sections, have different groups doing different things, etc.

The fact these "bomb squads" are a viable tactic to run over and demolish any defense trying to hold a capture point is just ultimately lame and boring.

Because it will reduce the entire PvP end game to this mindless, nearly skill-less PvP, most everyone will wind up running around and using this easy mode tacit like drones. The winner will come down to who's got the bigger spam group and/or more negates... Blah!

I don't think avoiding them is the issue, as indeed they are simple to avoid for anyone with any sense. It's the fact that to avoid them at nodes/capture points you basically have to give up the position you are defending to avoid, wipe them, then retake the node. Not much fun in terms of "holding your ground" to defend a position.

How about making immoveable and other special armor skills require 5 pieces as well to work, just being able to wear one piece and it works is sort of silly.

Would enforce more diversity as well.

Personally I am not upset with impulse groups, but it do look silly everyone chose the same thing, I love diversity and thus focusing on those ways with preventing doing this or that thing.. would enhance gameplay overall and maybe reducing the abuse quite a bit.

People think a fix is a nerf.. and move on to the next 'op' thing instead of sticking to with what they like

The way to avoid AE damage should not be to stack up. It's just silly.

This reminds me also of Shadowbane which had very similar issues. It was a ridiculous tactic that's made more egregious by AE caps (which Shadowbane also had).

We're getting close to the stack fighting of old. I've seen it happen a few times where two blobs get on top of each other and both AE and see who survives. Once it becomes the 'default tactic' that everyone uses, we'll be there.

Check this video of one of the original 'stack fighting' pvp games and tell me if this looks fun or innovative --

This was in a game where players could be CENTAURS and Minotaurs and Flying Aracroix and Templars would could transform into angels and fly. They obviously intended tons of flowing movement and battlefield maneuverability to affect how fights were wages.

Instead, the most effective thing was to make the toughest dwarf in the world and stack everyone together and spam AEs.

Shadowbane has since been sunsetted and shut down.

No thought or quality is put behind an impulse group, at all. When I see them I just dodge out and range you guys, along with my guildmates. Usually an impulse group means you are ignoring some (most likely) more powerful spells/skills or at least better ones to better suit that situation.

Speaking as a Sorc who strictly uses Destro staff, I stay away from Impulse/Elemental Ring/Pulsar because so many players have spammed it mindlessly. Me personally I am not upset at impulse groups, I just roll my eyes and get my character out of range of the spell and use my own range spells.

PvP, in any game, is full of elitist lame losers - and this thread has manged to gather quite a few of them.

    PvP:
Urban Dictionary - A type of game wherein human opponents primarily compete against one another.
Wiki: Player killing, or PKing, is non-consensual PvP resulting in a character's death.

If you are not just trolling and have passed a certain age, brain wise not necessarily chronologically wise, than you would know the following:

1v1 - is played one way.
5v5 - is played another way.
20v20 - is played yet another way.

In a Large Scale PvP game 1v1 and 5v5 is just for fun and has almost no impact on the objectives of the game - keeps and emperors in TESO's case.

So choose the type you want to play and don't complain about the others.

I play a support character so every time I'm alone the skills on my bars will not allow me to kill anything else but critters and I don't complain when I get ganked. It's my choice.

You want to play solo or in small group than accept your limitations and stop complaining.

As for how much skill is involved it is an entirely different beats:
    1. You need an entirely different skill set - You need to understand how things work in the war machine and pick your role and than play it to the best of your abilities.
    2. You need a good raid role distribution.
    3. You need a good leader.
    4. If your personal skill level is low than you can still participate if you can do exactly what you are told. In strict environments you want to play with the best and you want to tell the rest to take a break. I personally hate that with every fiber of my body. I'm an officer and I like to serve. Telling people "you are not good enough" makes me cry inside. Open world pvp offers me the unique opportunity to provide for all skill levels and play time opportunities.

So stop complaining and focus on your fun and allow others to have theirs!

The OP asked the community, what they have against zergballs and he got his answer. Most don't like them or despise them. Others want them, mainly because they are usually in one.

Personally I avoid them. Trying to fight them, just feeds them. And I really don't want to bolster the ego of the 2-button smashers that call themself PVP-Players.
Heck, even PVE Players or carebears push more buttons and show more skills then the usual zergballer.

yes zerg balls cater to mostly 2 types player.

1/ wannabe generals - think they are ghengis khan for being able to run around issuing orders

2/ drones who will follow anyone and do anything regardless how tedius and repetative if it garners the fastest amount of AP per hour. The bonus pay-off for them is they can delude themselves they are extra skilled and special for doing so

You got player base A saying player base B is unskilled. You got player base B saying player base A has no skill. Golly gee, what a conundrum

As someone mentioned, Cyrodiil is an Alliance vs. Alliance zone. You are welcome to run ANY size group you want AND, as a bonus, you can run your group any way you want. Woot! If a group has found 1 button that does the trick and makes the girlies cry, BAM! If you have found 2 buttons that do the same thing, BOOM! 3 buttons? BOOYAH! Heck, I know for a fact quite a few impulse groups that use all 10 abilities available throughout an encounter. They must be geniuses right? WRONG! It's a damn video game. Everyone is using the most efficient way to do the job be that 1 button, 3 buttons, or 10. Sorc's who spam crystal frags and kill someone solo. More power to them. They have found an efficient way to eliminate the threat. Why would he use more than 1 button if THAT is all he needed? Obviously someone who uses an aoe in a 1v1 fight might not be using the 'best ability or abilities' to do the job. But, if it happens to work lolz … *shrug*

Cyrodiil is designed around large scale battles. If you start feeling your eyes watering up because you run in a smaller group and die to larger groups, maybe Cyrodiil is not for you. Why would you waste one breath complaining because this group is too large, this other group is using <insert ability>, that group over there is sitting all day in a tower pouring hot oil on my head, blah blah blah. Suggestion: Maybe wait until Arenas come out and the playing field is leveled and nobody has any so-called advantage. This seems to be more the style these players want and absolutely nothing wrong with that. I personally don't find Arena style fun (at all) but in no way should I complain 'that can't be fun or it's boring as hell yada yada”. That would be idiotic.

Let’s imagine Dev removes the AOE cap. These various groups/guilds will find yet another (efficient) way to make these same exact players complain and run to the forums. That is a guarantee. I'm all for the cap removal but it won't stop a certain type player from 'getting upset'.

Side note, and humor bonus: this is all ignoring the fact a group of players who are supposedly ‘unskilled’ have found a way to make people cry using a press of 1 single button. Some of these tears coming from self proclaimed 'skilled' players. C’mon! You can’t make that stuff up. Would the tears stop if they used more than 1 button? No way in hell.

Now, with that said, if the complaint is about <insert ability> causing server issues, frame rate drops, etc, that is a 100% warranted complaint. I can’t imagine anyone sane arguing that point assuming that is the cause.

You are totally missing the point.

All but a few of the zergballers did not discover how to do this...they were shown, and they follow. So congratulating them on this is stupid, since they have done nothing but mimic a simple task...kind of like a monkey might do...and this simple task happens to work extraordinarily well because of some poor design decisions, and so the game is dumbed-down for those who aren't trying to show how skillful a monkey they are.

Cut the crap man. Most people aren't complaining because people are using easymode pvp, it's that easymode pvp exists in the first place.

PvP is supposed to be : Fun, Exciting, CHALLENGING, etc.
That's the whole reason people do it in the first place.
The current prevailing way to PvP (and win) is none of those things.

Now I don't blame people for doing what it takes to win, but defending impulse spam and ultimate generation as anything more than the button mashing nerdfest that it is would be disingenuous at best and an outright ploy to reinforce a broken and skillless playstyle at worst.
