I hardly put effort into hitting those buttons, but I would also like a disagree button as it is often a preferred choice (if available) instead of adding to a conversation that is going no where.

I believe someone had said that it was removed because it was being abused. People would click on the users profile and "disagree" with every post or comment they have made in the past and with little effort.. make them appear awful.

Simple.. Make some creative/funny medals with each associated rank, limit the amount of "disagrees" you can use on a single user, and etc. Also, if you value a forum profile enough to let a "disagree" count bother you.. then don't post.

I love how you post a mini rant about how sad we all are, and then finish it with a veiled comment about how you are bound to be insulted for your post. Not because you are being ignorant, but because we are sad.

Well I use the LoL button as a LoL button. If I want to disagree with somebody I would at least have the manners to articulate my point and not just resort to using an abbreviation that is clearly meant for another function.

I take them as a compliment. I've never LoL'd a post that didn't make me laugh. Posts I disagree with get a reply or are ignored. If members give me an LoL because they disagree, they are doing me a favor because I like them. Alot of these trolls want a disagree button so they can discredit other members by spamming a negative stat on them, and I'm glad this forum doesn't let them get away with it.

I use LOL in order to display two things:

    1) To show that I thought the post was funny, or LOL worthy.

    2) To express either disdain or utter disbelief at what was posted. Ie: I'm LOL'ing AT the person who posted, and not at what they posted.

In my case it depends entirely on the post that gets the LOL.
If the post was meant to be funny (and I know how to read Internet sarcasm, most of the time) my lol means I'm laughing *with* you.
If the post was meant to be serious but I think your point totally missed the mark, I'll be laughing *at* you.
And if it's a nerdrage type rant which meets my sincere and wholehearted disapproval, I'm hoping for something slightly unpleasant to happen to you, like an onion falling on your head.

Yea, when you are looking at the Post by Post breakdown of your LoL's you can pretty well figure out the intention.

I post a comment that is marginally ignorant and inflammatory. I get 4 LoL's. Probably 1 of them is from a sympathetic soul that thinks I'm hilarious and the other 3 are from people who are decent, and think I'm a jerk.

Sometimes I'm genuinely funny, and get a LoL or two.

I think the problem lies in the fact with when you look at a profile, and see that a guy has 400 LoL's. and you can't figure out if he's the funniest man on the planet or the worlds biggest mega@#$%$

For the OP... Don't worry what other people think of you. That's first and foremost. Everyone has their opinion and honestly no one else's is better than your own. Don't be swayed by bullies you want to impose their opinion on you.

There is no medal in life that gets pinned on you for "fitting in" or "following the collective mass". I post my opinions and feelings based on my experiences and couldn't really care less about how others view that opinion.

in your case its most likely the latter.

also if you want to separate the meaning then ask for a "disagree button" and "i hate you and every thing you just said button".

funniest thing about this thread is when people tell you what they use LOL for you get butthurt like we just pissed in your coffee.

im sure some of your insightful posts where actually insults as well, because you know that is a thing too... guess i shouldnt have told you that your universe might explode inside your head.

I didn't read all the posts but in general there's usually one of two reasons why a person clicks the LOL button.

    1. They found the post funny and laughed.

    2. They used it as an alternative to the disagree button which no longer exists.

    This seems counter-productive.

More LOL's = More Points = More Stars behind someone's name. For some odd reason, more stars tends to equal more respect on the forum for that person (though I have no idea why).

So basically you are respecting people by laughing at them.

@Soloeus there used to be disagree and off-topic too. These really were helpful. This may seem like a click bait/troll post but it's sincere.

With the amount of discord on this forum negative points should be made available as well. I'm sure I'll get alot of them but its only fair

I really believe these buttons are important. Not only is it "that post has 100 disagrees" but on the other side of the coin "I have disagreed with those 100 posts and agreed with these 100..." it lets me give a more complete picture.

I sum up the failure of juvenile policies like this:

I suppose we just should not allow Humans to drink water because someone might choke on it.
