Keyboard, no contest. I've been playing PC and console games for quite a while, but there is just more customization with keyboard and mouse, and I originally started with PC games, so it also feels more natural to me. There are a few games that I prefer playing with a controller, but the majority of my PC games I will use keyboard and mouse.
Logitech G19 Keyboard, Logitech G13 Gameboard, Cyborg M.M.O.7 Mouse, hands down much faster and more responsive than a controller, multiple profiles, able to switch build/setup on the fly, 102 G Keys (34 x 3 banks) custom set just how I want it, colour coded to each of my characters, and not just in this game....
Didn't vote as I use a Logitec G13 with my left hand, using it's joystick to move, and a Razer Naga mouse (12 buttons on the side of it) with my right.
when your playing on pc, having the mouse increases yoru overall effectiveness, if you put a gamepad player and a keyboard player 1v1, the keyboard will win 8/10 times

Maybe because a mouse pointer can stop on a pixel while the thumb sticks need to be compensated with something called skill. I just feel the handheld controller is more immersive because it doesn't glue you to a desk and movement with the analog sticks feels more natural. Your hand has more precision than your thumb, likely because the hand only has to stop moving while the thumb has to recenter the stick. Doesn't matter, especially in a game with auto lock and hit detection from across the room.
Been using a mouse/keyboard for 30+ years. There isn't thing a controller can do that I can't do better with mouse at this point.
Ultimately, my guess is it depends on what you are used to using. People that started on controllers and then finally got a PC might be comfortable with controllers... Personally, I can't use one more than an hour without my hands cramping up.
Will be mouse/keyboard for me on any game until the day I die.
I can play 100% from my wireless 360 controller with Xpadder by using switch-hold buttons. I just keep my main-usage functions on the primary. Second and -third-dary functions are for the other. My left and right 'bumpers' are the switch keys, but to give you an example here is the primary 'page' button layout.
L/R Triggers = Block/Attack
L-stick = movement
R-stick = look/mouse menus, etc
L-stick button = crouch
R-stick button = sprint
Select = map
Start = weapon swap
Arrows = 1,2,3,4 ability slots
X = 5
Y = jump
B = Cancel
A = Use
page 2 would be:: Hold Left bumper, press button:
X = 'F' Interact w/ Player
Y = roll dodge
B = Synergy
A = Ultimate
and so on...
If you just move 'not as often/necessary' functions to the switch-functions it really balances well. I had a time setting it for my g/f that has smaller hands, so some of my methods didn't work for her because I can reach multiple buttons with ease. *shrug*
It took some doing and trial by fire configuration, but I can play just fine from the gamepad setup if I choose, and I prefer it because I use my widescreen TV as a monitor and don't sit at a desk. I usually keep my wireless mouse handy and use it for crafting, banking, and wireless keyboard for chat, etc.
I was -really- surprised that the game didn't come with native controller support as they're making it for consoles, which is probably part of their delay, but whatevs. This works great.

I use a keyboard paired with a Razer Naga Hex. When playing (but not typing to other players), the only keys I use on the keyboard are WSAD, Space, Shift, Control, `, E and R. Skill buttons are pressed using the 1-5 buttons on the Naga. I have bound dodge and weapon swap to the Naga, but I keep forgetting that they're bound to mouse buttons. I initially bought the mouse for a third person shooter, but it's helped me with a bunch of other games too, namely MMOs.
Use both. Keyboard for town activities, crafting, banking etc.
Xbox360 controller with Xpadder for more rural activities such as questing, combat etc.
Mainly due to RSI. I just don't get any strain with the Xbox360, must be a good fit for my hands. I find it works really well with melee and especially with horses.
The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.
During combat my left hand always stays on the keyboard and the right one on the mouse.
There are just too many things operated from the keyboard, like chat, to make me migrate to a controller.
Gaming keyboard and mouse, a gamepad just can't compete.

I'm used to using a keyboard now so that is what I prefer. I think that if I had to go back to using a controller/ gamepad it would take some getting used to.

Keyboard + mouse for me. I've been playing games since spectrum times and the best control to move your sight in 3D is BY FAR the mouse.
Whith the mouse you are the limiting factor, with a gamepad the controller is the limiting factor, so there is no excuses about you not being able to aim something. Just try to play games like Q3 with a controller...
For those who say gamepad is the better for driving... my G25 disagree.
I don't think there is a right or wrong, worse or better choice as we all have different sized, shaped hands and what would be a perfectly comfortable set up for one person might be painfull for another.
It's good to see the different options that people have posted here and if players are struggling with their current set up it will give them potential solutions to try out.

In case I didn't drop in before, I'm a controller person. All the way. Not ever going back to Ye Elde Keyboard gaming. Got enough of that way back when.
