I disagree. Having used Xpadder in this game for awhile now, and playing Skyrim for 1000+ hours with a controller, I have been very happy with what Xpadder can do for this game.

Really? Every config I've tried is just not fluid. I have to hold a button down to access another button layout. Some even have a third button layout. Maybe somebody could recommend a good config to me.

I just use my gamepad ( a wired Xbox360 clone) just for combat. I use a mini wireless keyboard (Sumvision Rio) for everything else. My configuration (xpadder) is as follows.

    Left thumb - movement
    Click - sneak toggle
    Right thumb - mouse
    Click - jump
    Left trigger - right mouse
    Right trigger - left mouse
    Start - ability 1
    X - ability 2
    Y - ability 3
    A - ability 4
    B - ability 5
    Dpad up - Quickslot item
    Dpad down - weapon swap
    Dpad left - synergy
    Dpad right - ultimate
Back - map / journal (short / long press)
Left bumper Dodge roll / sprint (short / long press)
Right Bumper (Interact / Loot) (short / long press)

I use the Greymind Quickslot addon which allows the quick slot wheel items to be mapped to keys (I use F1 - F8). Once the item is selected using a function key it still has to be triggered using the Q key (Dpad up)

That's nice, and I know I'm going to seem like an *** again. If you can't use the controller without a keyboard, doesn't that defeat the purpose?

As you have already pointed out, mapping all the keyboard functions to a keypad results in a very complex button layout. So why bother?

I spend the majority of my playing time questing / fighting / moving. This is MUCH easier using a game pad. If I want to use my inventory / reassign abilities I find somewhere safe and use my keyboard. The make I mentioned in my previous post is intended for android devices, is very compact and has a trackball. Also, I do not sit at a desk, I play from my settee on a 30 inch TV.

Hmmm. I might give a hybrid method a go then. I really prefer my gamepad over keyboard and mouse, but not for this game...yet. I play on a tv as well, but I just use wireless mouse and keyboard. One more question. Where is your mount? Keyboard or gamepad?

I have remapped it to my right bumper and set auto loot on in the game settings. This way I do not have to map auto loot to a button.

Right Bumper (Interact / horse) (short / long press)

Xbox controller and its not even a close choice for me for a couple of reasons:

1: It has plenty of buttons for every need. I can access every ability including ultimate very easily while still moving. So much easier than reaching for the 1-5 keys.
2: Its more responsive to me, at least in my experience
3: The keyboard movement setup in this game is horrid for me. For example, in swtor I could use the arrow keys for all my movement. In this game I have to use them, PLUS the mouse to turn.
4: I can kick my chair back and relax while gaming instead of sitting up over a keyboard
5: and most important: repetitive strain injury. The mouse and keyboard setup of this game is just asking for it. I played swtor for a year, and I think I already got the beginnings of it from that. a controller is so much easier on my hands.

Gamepad. I've been using an XBOX S-pad (The one with Start & Back over by the left thumbstick instead of the center) since I got Morrowind on the XBOX, and on through the life of City of Heroes on PC (Had to get special drivers and USB converters for PC). I type two ways, bad & slow. I can either look at the keyboard or the screen, not both. So the game pad is essential for any gaming that requires more than cursor and mouseclicks. If I can't use it, I almost never stick with a game.

So far, it's working pretty well with ESO. I wish I had a few more buttons available, but not enough to switch pad styles and go with different hardware (almost everything has PS ergonomics these days, and that's ok for some, but doesn't feel right in my hands).

Mouse and keyboard, I consider gamepads a huge handicap.

We miss at least 3 more abilities though

I use a PS4 controller, plays like a dream. Ofc i made a custom Pinnacle Profile for it, but still as this game feels like it was made for consoles, I enjoy playing it like it was on consoles.

I hate controllers but Im seriously considering one for this game only because a mouse is really starting to hurt to use.

I havent played console games with any regularity since SNES.

I would never choose conteoller for PvP game, where fast manuevers and precise aim matters. For singleplayer it is better, because you can sit back and relax.

It really does. The movement style of this game where you have to use the arrow keys and the mouse to turn at the same time would be unplayable for me.

See, for me I think my response is faster with a controller. At least I haven't noticed a difference.

To all of you that have problems with movement + 1-5 keys .... Razer Naga mouse.
All skills, interrupt, sheathe, crouch, swap weapon, synergy, dodge roll under a thumb. It can hardly get any better. :)

Is that a trick question? Why would anyone want to use a controller for anything other than racing-games? They are inferior in every way possible.

The controller lets you play on the sofa.
I still use the keyboard but this is a strong point in favor of the controller.

I actually prefer controllers for FPS and Adventure Games ala Tomb Raider and Assassin's Creed. I'd rather shoot myself in the foot than use a mouse and keyboard for those games.

MMOS and Certain RPG's though, such as Skyrim, it's Keyboard and Gamepad all the way.

I started using an n52 many many years ago. couldn't imagine playing any game without it. Everything right where it needs to be. If you have never tried a gamepad and I don't mean a controller and you are serious about gaming you need to try it. I also use a razer naga. I only touch the keyboard to type in chat. Comfort is the key.

I prefer gamepad for any game that isn't multiplayer competitive. I use an xbox 360 controller with a very advanced pinnacle profile to quest in ESO, but it's still quite clunky due to keyboard and mouse emulation. I would really appreciate native gamepad controls.
End the tedious inventory management game.

Tried Assassins Creed and Tomb Raider with a controller. It drove me crazy. Its sooo sluggish and slow compared to a mouse, it literally infuriates me.

I dont deny that for some people the controllers are fine, but its fact that they cant be as precise as mouse and keyboard. Thats simple physics.

I don't use a "traditional" gamepad, though I do use an Xbox360 controller for various action games on PC. For MMOs, I use the Logitech G13 which is kinda like a keyboard and kinda like a stationary gamepad. I like the analog stick for moving around and the layout just fits my hand really well.

Think I'm going to have a go with a controller, I've had a fair few rounds of surgury so sitting at a desk for long periods is a no no for me.

The PC is hooked up to a big plasma on the wall and I bought one of those reclining leather uber comfortable chairs to slob in, made a nicely shaped lap desk out of a piece of timber and velcro'd the keyboard to it and stuck a mouse mat on it with double sided sticky tape.

For the first couple of hours it's great, but it starts to get heavy and uncomfortable after that.

Have to say that I was surprised that Zen didn't include a reasonable controller support setup for this game.

    I dont get this thread.

MMORPGs are not only about there theme, action, combat and press 1 key to use quests.

MMOs are interactive with other players. You SPEAK. You type a lot of text. Guild chat, trade chat, RP chat. Normal questions. Pointless talking to strangers if you wish.

I know consoles can add keyboard (or am I wrong), but it seams a hassle.

Why on earth would anyone want to play an MMO on anything else then a keyboard, unless they just want to play solo, only combat...and that's it?

And before someone says that consoles can use voice chat......how do you do that to the 99% of the people you meet in the game, and need to communicate for whatever reason? Everyone isnt connected to your Vent/mumble/TS or whatever.
