It's not as simple as just not participating because of event fatigue. In the past I just did the bare minimum, or didn't participate at all in events when I was feeling fatigued by too many too close together, which worked because we had new stories and zones we could participate in instead.

The difference now is that these Golden Pursuits and Tomes are the "new content". And more tasks just keep coming at a constant pace with no time left to do anything else. Players like to take part in what others are doing and feel like part the community, so it's easier to say " just don't participate" than it is for the player to do so.

These challenges are not the new content. They're the endeavors and daily login rewards, changed up and delivered also in a way that might bring in revenue.

The new content is night market and the sages vault and the new thieves stories etc etc etc

Yes it's been an incredibly long time since we have had new content. I sure hope they don't leave it six months again. How they can afford to risk players, with that gap IDK. However, the challenges is something to do, but, it's not new content.

Outside of your friends asking if you want to do any of them with them, or being in the wrong place at the wrong time (trying for a quiet walk through wrothgar a fortnight ago), you have no idea what the "whole community" is doing with challenges. So that's not really an argument.

I also don't buy it as an argument generaliy. Else we would be hearing that every day players feel compelled to spend time in allikr doing dolmens, as, that's what you can find players doing every day.... what "the community" does.

With challenges, people are trying out the new thing to do, and, in many cases, apparently, finding it too much of a burden. Some handle that by stopping, others grind on, but, either way, I think zos needs to check in on whether they've balanced this thing correctly.

These tasks are the only "new" things we have right now. The Night Market just sounds like a nightmare to me and I am not looking to do anything past getting the house with it. I don't even know what Sage's Vault is because I have not been interested enough in these things to read about it.

As far as Alik'r, that has never been a group activity but rather a quick and convenient way to level and level up skill lines. Nothing more.

Correct. These are explicitly not new content. They're just a new way of delivering rewards. And they're actually explicitly intended to be done over the course of weeks not days, with a paid option to get it done eventually over the entire lifetime of the account.

Anyone trying to get it done in a couple of days to the detriment of their ability to play the things they want are doing so in a way that is expressly counter to the intended design. And if doing it faster than intended is making the OP miserable, maybe they should really reconsider doing it at such a breakneck pace.

They're just endeavors. They're not new. They've been in the game years. Since june 2021. They've been reformatted is all. And tbh, they're a lot more generous than endeavors where most people had no hope of saving to get the top rewards. People don't miss out on weeklys, they roll over, being even more generous.

They're also not necessarily group content. Allikr dolmems is frequently group content. My point there tho is this isn't about 'doing what others are doing' else you'd be in crowded places like allikr or doing the new content when it lands, cos, that's what players will be doing.

If you're not interested to even read about any of the new content, well, I don't know what to say to that really.

I'll round it up, so 50 people out of thousands of players agree. That does not mean all that much. While I won't tell the OP how to think or feel, I don't agree that Everyone else should lose out on activities because 50 players decide there is too much.
It does mean all that much. The engagement system on these forums is hardly used at all. I can't think of a post that has had more than 15 engagements on it. I'm sure they exist, but it doesn't happen very often. That 50 people out of the very small population of the forums felt strongly enough to hit "agree" is significant.

Everyone saying "just step back" obviously has a very fair point. But it's also been pointed out, multiple times, that game studios hire psychologists to create systems that deliberately addict players. Does ZoS have psychologists on staff? I don't know. But that's how systems like Battle Passes came to be in the first place. And as has been pointed out many times, battle passes keep being used, because they work. ZoS certainly knew all of that when they decided to put a battle pass into ESO.

So, the engagement system means the 1000's who are happily playing and not on the forums should have everything changed cause a small percentage of people who use the forums agree with 1 post?

Given the enormous scale and complexity of this change aren't they working it out on private internal servers before letting it go anywhere near the live servers? It may only be backend changes for now but it still seems incredibly premature and unnecessarily disruptive to live play.

Given the current hardware hunger of AI datacenters, this might be the last opportunity in the forseable future to do the neccessary hardware upgrade so the virtual servers for all three platforms can run on the same physical machine.

It means the sentiment is more widespread than the few people who have actually commented in this thread. The forum readers are a tiny percentage of the whole player base, and things differ greatly from realm to realm. But, among the tiny amount of people who read the forums, the OP has gotten a massive amount of positive engagement. ZoS should take that feedback into account with all the other metrics that they have.

Most everyone I play with is unhappy with the current FOMO and event flood, and are pulling back to do other things, play other games, wait to see how it falls out. But that's just my corner of ESO, I have no real feeling for how the majority think. And I doubt you do, either.

Well, at this very second there are 11K people reading the ESO reddit, and there are tons of topics about all kinds of things and not rally a focus or care at all about the Golden Pursuit.

We really are a very small part of the ESO community. I kind of like the forums, but I have gotten to the point where I recognize a lot of users by name since it's not that many people. Going to other forums can show way different perspectives than on here. Like, I'm truly surprised about what gets 1K+ upvotes over there.

Yes but it is still a large community. A thread with 50 upvotes on page 6 is kind of a big deal over here, but in that far larger community almost no one is talking about the Golden Pursuit existing at all, and they are going about talking about whatever else interests them and going about their day.

I suppose there is one small thread about having to group with a negative ratio, which we also had here but with more support. It's just viewed very differently.

Most of all are probably the vast majority of the playerbase that doesn't use forums at all. They probably are able to track engagement metrics for their events to help make their decisions.
