Have you noticed the date? ;)

(Do people really force locks? This is probably the easiest 'lock' minigame in a TES/Fallout game.)

I get most of em unlocked with forcelock, rarely fails, except advanced or master sometimes. And forcelock is good if you jsut running speed farming.I only take time if I know someone is around,so they don't snag my chest.

LOL! At first I thought you meant the date on the OP, so I scrolled up to see how much of a necropost it was.

    And then I realized...

Sure. Just bc it‘s doesn‘t mean it‘s enjoyable.

I used to force locks all the time, but a while back I decided to force the lock only if there's a time-related reason to do it.

If you have the skill to force locks, why wouldn't you?

I usually do, unless someone is standing over my shoulder vulturing to grab the chest.

Then I take my sweet time lockpicking the chest open, just to make sure I get the loot.

When I play on Stadia, locks Advanced and Master are downright impossible because of the delay with the pins. Why am I playing on Stadia? Sometimes I don't want to be on the PC, sometimes I'm in bed looking to kill some time before sleep or I'm on the toilet needing to occupy the time.

Because (1) each attempt is guaranteed to break a pick regardless of whether it ends in failure or success, (2) you don't get any experience points for forcing a lock, and (3) some endeavors require picking locks rather than forcing them.

Yes because it's a lot faster and I can find chests literally every 20-30 seconds. When you have 5+ stacks of lock picks banked why wouldn't you force?

It's not just you OP. There is something truly broken with the pickpocketing chance. Just like you attempting to pickpocket an NPC with an 80% chance for success actually fails 4 out of 5 attempts.

It is curious that your chances of opening a lock appear to be the exact opposite of the percentage chance presented.

I used to think it was just my imagination, but after keeping a record of 200 locks, it does indeed seem to be that the chances of opening it with a force are indeed the opposite way around.

The hardest pop open pretty much immediately, but I can rightly burn up four or five on a simple one, mostly for my own amusement at just how broken the RNG system is in this game

This! It seems I am way more likely to fail to force a simple lock than an advanced or master one.

Percentages and ratios are not the same statistic. This is a fallacy I see a lot of people falling into.

That's why it is usually a bad idea to lay off your entire QA team ...
