Yes it changed with (I think from memory) the Blackwood update. It wasn't like that before then, if you removed yourself from area chat on a character it stayed out unless you put yourself back in. Now it puts you back in every day

Its actually automatically dumped me in area chat for years, honestly can’t remember a time when it didn’t
It definitely only changed for me very recently. i used to log out of area voice chat when I created a new character and stayed logged out.

I'm sick of hearing every troglodytes music, opions arguing, tough guy talk, moms arguing with there kids and kids crying and just the sheer amount of stupid stuff coming out of these mouth breathers. It's every zone and every time you zone you get thrown back into the short bus chat.
I want to know why do these people think everyone wants to hear them they know there Mike is on.
Unfortunately they wanted this to be a feature so it wont be "fixed". Ots beyond annoying having to remove myself on every character every time I log on but thankfully I haven't had the issue of being immediately bombarded with crap music when loading.

Please put us outta chat by default so those that want to use area chat have to choose to be there
it's not just PS5, I'm on xbox, first things I do upon logging on are:
1: Leave Area Chat
2. Increase Brightness-it resets every time I log out, the default is way too dark
3. Adjust Screen-resets as well

As of last week’s incremental patch, the microphone should now be disabled by default. With this fixed, we're currently working on making sure that if someone chooses to leave an area channel, this preference is saved the next time they play. We don't have a specific go-live date for this second fix, but it is actively being worked on and our goal is to get this live as soon as possible.
Thanks again for your continued patience and feedback, and we'll share more information when it's available.
