First post ever here. Came in seeking trade guild advice but I'll add my tuppence worth.

Probably took the same path many others followed - thousands of hours in TES series and still loving them all; as far back as Morrowind.

Never been attracted to multi-player games until now. In fact, I figured I'd hate a game where there were real people involved in my world. I took the plunge about four weeks ago and am loving it. Mostly...as in "why do I keep getting done in?" The ability to play as a sneaky Bosmer NB clinched it for me.

Made many mistakes and will undoubtedly make many more. Hopefully I won't get any worser. Was never tempted to rage quit, which is evidence - for me - that it's worth persevering with ESO. The appeal, over and above the world spaces, is the complexity of everything. Players have to think and strategise on so many levels.

The world spaces are works of art. Auridon is top notch in terms of the plaza layout and the architecture of the individual buildings. Whoever designed Marbruk and its buildings has probably been trained in one or more of the built environment, design professions. All the zones I've visited have a specific character too. Good stuff.

One thing I learned from previous games where crafting is a biggie, is to pick up everything. I am now the proud owner of hundreds of bits of oak, reagents and provisioning ingredients. Whacked up Alchemy and Provisioning to 50. All I need to do now is find a trade guild and flog some stuff.

Still haven't sussed out how the chat inputs work. So any incoherent babble in game might well be me thinking "erm...wonder if this is how to do it?"

TL, DR - TES exile, who is loving ESO.

it went on sale for $15.
I was watching the game for a couple years, but I wasn't sure if I would like the more action type combat or what I thought was 4 limited generic sounding class choices.
but for $15 I decided to risk it.

    TES Morrowind

Spent most of that game dreaming of what it would be like with other players.
Have to say I was disappointed, but to be fair some of the wow may have worn of by then anyway.

I waited a year upon release to play, wanted to see what the game was like/what type of dlcs that land. But the main thing was able to explore the whole of Tamriel + the rest of nirn/oblivion/maybe other places in the end :)

I never wanted to try an MMO game. But ESO left me no choice. As a lore addict, I couldn't miss this ocean of lore. So, after One Tamriel went live, I started playing. As a single player, I suffer a lot from its MMO part.

Hmm... After guild drama caused me to leave one game and I got burned out on another, I was searching for a new game to play. I'd played every TES game since Morrowind, but originally avoided ESO like the plague due to both the multiplayer (I really didn't feel it had a place in TES, which had always been a solo venture for me) and the sub model (which I'm just generally not a fan of). But as I was researching last year, I'd found they'd dropped the sub requirement and gone Buy to Play (something I'd really liked with the original Guild Wars) and were getting ready to release Morrowind (which had been my first big RPG back in the day), so I decided to look further in to it. I found an old playthrough by a Youtuber from back near the beginning and decided I enjoyed the art and the story enough to tolerate the other people running around me. So I bought it and gave it a shot.

Now, it's those other people (or some of them) that keep me playing.

I love the TES lore and thus play all the TES games, and ESO was no exception, as soon as it became available to buy, I pre-ordered me one and have been playing it since then...

Playing an MMORPG online where for the most part hardware and software performance is equal across the board for PVP. Was tired of upgrading my PC constantly and aquiring add ons or hardware like macro keyboards just to be competitive.

Not to mention the convenince of playing on a large tv sitting or laying down any which way I choose as opposed to both arms on a table for a mouse and keyboard.

I'm pety about comfort and feeling casual :)

There is a small game called Arena. After that, I was hooked on the series. :pensive:

As for ESO, I tried it, didn't like it. I guess it was the "It doesn't know what it wants to be". It wasn't an MMO as some people claimed, it wasn't an The Elder Scrolls. Tried it on and off and never clicked.

Then one day I wanted to be in Arena again. Couldn't get it to run on my PC and thought be great if we had modern graphics for it. So after One Tamriel released, I tried it again and then it CLICKED for me. I really like it a lot now.

Khajiit had been living undercover as a dwarf in Middle Earth for six long years. This one she had waited too long for beard ribbons that never arrived. Gradually everyone this one she knew sailed away for other lands.

Then Khajiit heard they were opening the borders to Tamriel again. She untucked her tail from it's uncomfortable hiding place, unsmoothed her whiskers and sailed away into the sunset … waking up after a long and unexplained nap to find herself in Coldharbour.

I was looking for MMO that isn't as flashy and odd as manga themed ones that are flooding the market.

I've played single player TES games since Morrowind and I really liked them for the depth of the stories, the beautiful graphics and improving combat system. Before I discovered that game I wasn't really into RPGs because most of them had ugly graphic and boring gameplay; the only notable exceptions were Fallout 1 & 2 which had funny stories and dialogue. But I strongly disliked "hack & slash" grindy stuff like Diablo and such. I liked Oblivion and Skyrim a lot and played each of them for about a year, including all DLCs and even some fan made modes. I even picked up Morrowind again, together with a fan made graphics revamp at its 10 year anniversary and I still enjoyed it. In the mean time I tried playing some F2P MMOs but found them equally boring; the longest I lasted playing one called Runes of Magic, which was about 3 days. After the brief sampling I didn't consider paying monthly subscription for slightly more upscale MMOs like WoW to be worth while, since they didn't look & feel much better.

I heard about ESO in late 2012 or early 2013 and applied for Beta in July 2013. Got accepted and started playing briefly in late February 2014, shortly after launch. I really liked the game and did Bleakrock, Bal Foyen and the first quests in Stonefalls. That was about it, since I had to leave in a business trip and by the time I returned the Beta was closed and the PC launch proceeded shortly afterwards. Then I followed the game from a distance for about 1.5 years but I didn't like how it had turned out. It seemed to be pretty dead, since they weren't adding any new content, just increasing the gear level slightly every few months, which was simply an artificial grind I didn't like, just like I stated at the beginning. There was a free to play weekend in April 2015 when I came back briefly, recreated my long deleted PTS character, then retraced my steps right to where I had left him, in front of Ebonheart.

Then the game became buy to play in early 2015 and in August they did Imperial City and the game seemed to be on the right track so I decided to finally purchase the game on 1st October and found it relatively cheap, for 15 EUR or something like that. I've been playing almost daily ever since. I reached level 50 on my first character in late November 2015, shortly after Orsinium launch - leveling was pretty slow back then and I didn't grind - and then reached VR16 in mid January 2016 just as I was starting Cadwell's Gold. I hit CP501, which had been the limit for a long time, in late May shortly before Dark Brotherhood launch and axing of the Veteran Ranks. In late September I decided to buy my first DLC pack, which consisted of a bundle of the first 4 released: IC, Orsinium, TG and DB, since I had bought some crowns which were on sale; I had bought Shadows of the Hist dungeons a bit earlier, since the price tag was only 1.5K crowns. At this point I had decided subscription wasn't worth it since I was still managing my inventory pretty well even without craft bag and it looked like they won't release more DLCs for some time. I finally decided to stop buying DLCs only about a year later, and I've been on recurring 6 month subscription since late August 2017. By that time inventory had become completely unmanageable, with the amount of new housing and style materials and some new sets. This opened up the possibility of actually leveling and playing some characters that had been tied up with various items - I had 9 at that point of which only the first 4 were active.

Now I have 14 level 50 characters - the decision to cut VRs and scale the whole game to CP160 was probably the best thing the developers did in 4.5 years since it really cleared up the way for alts - and preparing to level the 15th, out of which 7 are combat ready and 3 more will become within the next year; the last 5 are reserved for storage & supplementary crafting for the time being, but there's a chance I will activate them as well further on.

I played Oblivion and Skyrim. We wanted to reinstall Oblivion, dug up our old disks, but we lost the CD Key or something, or maybe it couldn't be installed on the newer computer because it was an old game, either way I gave up. Too confusing.

So I looked for it on Steam and found it was very cheap. I searched "Elder Scrolls" to find it so ESO also came up. I totally forgot about the existence of this game, but I was surprised it was for the same price so I thought it would be totally worth it a try, since unlike garbage dead horse WoW you don't have to pay a sub if you don't want to!

So now I'm playing this instead of replaying Oblivion!
