Very strong in duels with the right set up. Not so strong open world compared to other classes though

It's incredibly strong in the hands of a good player. But melee magblade might be the hardest PVP spec to learn to excel with. A melee magblade recently won a major PC/NA dueling tournament, but that's because he's been playing magblade for years.

Its just that destro magblade is kind of ridicilous.
Nothing wrong with melee magblade. If thats what you desire, just go for it.

Kena does a kick ass magic nightblade and for awhile I was able to do one rather well too, but I got frustrated and tried destro/resto and just haven't gone back because it makes weaving easier

If you take advantage of your stealth and speed, melee magblades can be epic. The issue you'll have the most is recognizing that your biggest weakness is AOE. So If you run into a Sorc of any kind or templar... walk away. Also make sure your Mag pool and regen are insanely high.

Melee mageblade is evenly matched or strong into most matchups but is hard countered by a few specific ones, with destro mageblade being ironically its hardest matchup. Flame Clench is already rough. Add Cripple and a defile to it, and you just get kited and tossed around while burning your magicka on 3700 cost Lotus Fans to try and keep up.

Destro is 10x easier and stronger and more boring in all contexts of PvP since the Morrowind changes.

I played it for years when it was the underdog and then through half of Morrowind patch, but I honestly can't take it seriously anymore. It's been as dominant as wardens and stamblades and pet sorcs in 1v1s since the Morrowind changes imo. (Open world is of course a different story.)

Keep in mind I've played both extensively over the years, so I believe I have an accurate assessment of each.

Melee MagBlades might be in a better spot if Concealed Weapon were on par with Surprise Attack. As it stands, I think the cost is too high to work well as a basic spammable.

I personally wouldn't mind it if they lowered the speed increase to 15% and either boosted the damage or lowered the Magicka cost.

Why should they lower the speed? Just give it Major Breach and call it done.

A lot of people will disgaree with me but I would argue melee magblade is MUCH weaker than people give it credit for. Some people like Kena are incredible players, but I would argue its their talent rather than the class that shines. When I see a melee magblade in open world cyro my first thought is "free AP", and 99% of the time I'm right. There is not another class in the game that has to jump through as many hoops as a magblade does to achieve the same results.
