It's funny, before the game launched, there was legitimate split between whether to called the game TESO or ESO.

I was in the TESO park but have since adopted the vastly more popular ESO.

whats funny about all this is when it was being called TESO - i spoke it out like "Tesso"

but when i started calling it ESO - i said each letter out "Ee Ess Oh"

Im with Gina Bruno on this too, when i hear "Eesso" it makes me uneasy. Kinda like when Fengrush says Essa kh's name "Eessa" - makes me "un-Eesy"

Okay but seriously, I'm now curious myself... to all the people who say "I call it Essoh" or "Tessoh" or "E Es Oh" or "Eesoh" or whatever it is you call it out loud, do the people you're talking to actually know what you're referring to? I'm not talking about people you know who already play the game. If you go up to a random stranger and ask them, "do you play Eesoh?" or "E.S.O?" or whatever you call it... do most people know what you're talking about? Whenever I discuss the game with other people IRL (gamers and non-gamers alike), I refer to it as "Elder Scrolls Online", because I don't think it's popular enough to be immediately recognized by its acronym, as WoW is. Most of the "random" people I talk to have never played ESO; many of them have never even played any game in "the" TES franchise.

(I know, I need to find different groups of people to hang out with, because these people obviously suck)

I definitely just list out the letters for ESO, although I must admit I'm not consistent with other games. When I played SWTOR I opted for "sweater" and when the Knights of the Fallen Empire expansion came out it became "sweater coffee."

But I'm pretty shure I've seen somewhere that the game is "Elder Scrolls Online". I was wondering why people say ESO and I've tried to find out how it should be called. And I found. There were The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Elder Scrolls Online.

Well, the ZeniMax Media trademark, according to their website (I have not checked with USPTO), is "The Elder Scrolls®", and that is why there is a "The" in front of all of the games.
